England football supporters were put through a spectrum of emotion as they roared their team to the narrowest of World Cup last-16 victories from more than 1,500 miles away. The passion on the pitch in the Russian capital was replicated at fan zones across England, as substitute Eric Dier's decisive spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out sent the Three Lions through - and fans into raptures. Thibaut Courtois has mocked Jordan Pickford for being too short to save the shot from Adnan Januzaj which sealed Belgium's World Cup win over England on Thursday. Courtois believes he would have found it easy to pluck Januzaj's shot from the air and suggests England's goalkeeper Pickford was 'too busy' trying to make a dramatic dive than actually saving the ball. MATT BARLOW AT FISHT OLYMPIC STADIUM: For a short time, just over half an hour including the half-time interval, Germany were on their way out of the World Cup. For much longer they were in deep trouble, unable to find the winner, teetering on the brink and vulnerable. Then, five minutes into stoppage time and down to 10 men, up stepped Toni Kroos to fire a free-kick from wide on the left swerving past the dive of Sweden goalkeeper Robin Olsen. Lord Alan Sugar today sparked a huge race row after he posted a racist tweet comparing the Senegal World Cup squad to black beach sellers. Hundreds of people immediately slammed the 71-year-old Apprentice host, but he initially failed to back down, calling the reaction 'OTT' to what was a 'bloody joke'. The tweet was eventually removed 23 minutes later - but Lord Sugar insisted this was only because it was 'interpreted in the wrong way as offensive by a few people'. However, 82 minutes after posting the initial message, he admitted the tweet was 'misjudged' and his 'attempt at humour has backfired', saying he was 'very sorry'. Lord Sugar's position as host of the popular BBC TV programme - which has run for 13 seasons so far, with another on screen this autumn - could now come into doubt. As England stepped out on the Volgograd Arena pitch on Monday evening, they had more than Tunisia's starting team to contend with. Jesse Lingard, Raheem Sterling and Danny Welbeck were among a host of stars who were left frantically swatting away midges who plagued the humid air. They clearly irritated the players as Sterling was furiously rubbing his face at one point. After a blunder that cost the Cleveland Cavaliers the win in the first NBA Finals match against Golden State Warriors, J.R. Smith sensationally looked to pass the blame to star man LeBron James. With seconds remaining on the clock in the fourth quarter and the game tied at 107-107, Smith rose to win the rebound after a missed free-throw from George Hill. But instead of looking to settle the game under pressure from Warriors' Kevin Durant, Smith ran in the opposite direction much to the dismay of his team-mates, with observers suggesting he told LeBron he assumed Cleveland were ahead.
