With most of League One in the FA Cup, Charlton had an opportunity to get closer to their rivals, but they had to take down Sunderland; the only other team around us who were playing and if they won, they would move ahead of Luton into 2nd. An abysmal first half hour saw O’Nien smash Sunderland ahead after just two minutes. The Addicks woke up in the last ten minutes, but couldn’t level terms before the interval. A completely dominant second half saw Reece James score an own goal from Lyle Taylor’s cross. Charlton had so many chances, but couldn’t find the net a second time. It’s a fantastic point, but it should have been two points more. Charlton’s second home game of the season was against table-toppers Peterborough, who The Addicks have failed to beat in the two years they’ve been in League One. A fantastic endeavour from Lee Bowyer’s men almost made it certain that they would take the win. But the referee’s shambolic decisions cost us all night, ultimately leading to a very controversial penalty, which Jason Cummings converted to give The Posh an undeserved win. We were the better side today, but that ref must lose his job today! Final Score: Charlton Athletic 0-1 Peterborough United
The playoffs were finally among us and the Addicks were up against Shrewsbury, a side who finished on a fantastic 87 points this season and were one of the contenders for promotion all year. The two sides are so evenly matched, with both teams coming very close all game, but Jon Nolan’s unbelievable strike was enough to give Shrewsbury the advantage in the second leg. Can Charlton take the win? Let me know in the comments below. Final Score: Charlton Athletic 0-1 Shrewsbury Town
An inform Charlton took on 4th place Rotherham, who had won one in five, while the Londoners had back to back wins without conceding. Another brilliant performance from the Addicks puts us back in the playoffs, due to a postponed match, but thanks to Zyro and Aribo, we are now five points behind Rotherham. Caretaker manager Lee Bowyer was hoping for a positive start as Charlton boss, against Plymouth who had won 7 out of their last 8 games. Charlton’s best performance of the season has put the pressure on the front runners, thanks to Lewis Page’s screamer and Michal Źyro’s brilliant header. The Addicks had a huge opportunity to return to a playoff place, but they had to beat a Bradford side, who had lost 5 in a row, before drawing with bottom of the league Bury. It was the same old story for Charlton, with Magennis scoring early, then the whole team shutting down towards the end, allowing Tyrell Robinson to equalise and deny Charlton the 3 points for the third week running. I’m seriously getting annoyed by this. Robinson needs to sort his team out, so we can get back into the fight for promotion. Charlton were finally finding some good form, after coming off the back of two straight wins in a row. Today we faced Walsall, who last week beat promotion chasing Oxford. Joe Aribo’s rise continued with his third goal of the season, but miscommunications in the defence allowed Walsall to equalise. The second half was a fantastic display from the Addicks, with Mavididi providing the magic yet again, to put the pressure of Bradford. The comeback is on... Final Score: Charlton Athletic 3-1 Walsall
