With most of League One in the FA Cup, Charlton had an opportunity to get closer to their rivals, but they had to take down Sunderland; the only other team around us who were playing and if they won, they would move ahead of Luton into 2nd. An abysmal first half hour saw O’Nien smash Sunderland ahead after just two minutes. The Addicks woke up in the last ten minutes, but couldn’t level terms before the interval. A completely dominant second half saw Reece James score an own goal from Lyle Taylor’s cross. Charlton had so many chances, but couldn’t find the net a second time. It’s a fantastic point, but it should have been two points more.
