The first round of the Carabao Cup saw Charlton take on League Two Forest Green Rovers, the first game between the two sides in history. This 90 minute game was fairly uneventful and evenly matched. Charlton had their chances but just couldn’t covert, with their best chance coming from a Jake Forster-Caskey penalty, only for it to be saved by the keeper. The tie went to a penalty shootout, with Albie Morgan missing Charlton’s third spot-kick. Forest Green converted all five of their penalties, sending them through with a 5-3 win on penalties and Charlton crashing out in Round one for the second year running. Charlton were looking to extend their brilliant home record against Kenny Jackett’s Portsmouth, who are sitting in 4th, but have gone through a rough patch having won just once since New Year’s Day while Lee Bowyer’s Charlton are struggling to find the back of the net. An incredible display from the Addicks saw us boss Pompey from start to finish, with Joe Aribo and Lyle Taylor ending their goal droughts. Ronan Curtis’ header was Portsmouth only major chance, so it’s disappointing they managed to get a goal considerable we completely outclassed them. Charlton move two points behind our opponents going into Tuesday against Burton Albion.
