This is the pivotal play that gave the Suns a 4 point lead late in the game which they were able to keep it for the win. CP3 is the inbounder, we got an Ayton screen for Bridges who comes out to receive the pass. And you can already see this is set up to be a double screen for Paul. One on the handoff, and we got Ayton on the back as well. That’s what the Hawks believe as well. But then check out the lightning quick cut from Bridges, going straight to the basket for the dunk and fooling the entire Atlanta team. We’ve seen this sneaky move being done a lot of times and it’s a lot of fun every time. So let’s check out a few more interesting play calls from last night’s games. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. The Hornets have a great play design that they’ve been running this season. Starts off as a high pick and roll between Hayward and Zeller, but as soon as Rozier makes the pass, he’ll fake left, hard cut to the right, and Zeller turns around to actually screen for Terry off the ball, a great wide open look and Rozier hits the three. Check it out once again as everything flows nicely on this possession. Back to Phoenix, I wanted to feature Trae Young’s phenomenal vision, passing and overall basketball IQ. Right here on the high pick by Capella, the big man actually slips it creating a bit of an advantage. Young could throw a lob at this moment, but he sees Chris Paul sliding down, on the help, so he takes an extra dribble, enough for CP to get all the way to the paint, and then throws a crosscourt pass to the corner for Kevin Huerter who’s got all the time he needs for the shot and knocks it down. Nice to see this type of reaction from Trae in traffic, seeing the play ahead of time, and making the right move. Look at this quick execution from Philadelphia. As Ben Simmons gets the ball at the wing, Tobias fakes the curl on the Howard pick, and this transforms into a double screen for Simmons. Ben comes out strong, Dwight rolls, and you can see it being a 2 on 1 situation for Jokic. The alley oop and the easy dunk for the sixers. Check it out once again in real time to see just how quickly this play develops. And speaking of quick, here’s another example of that by the Orlando Magic. As Terrence Ross brings the ball up, we have a recognizable 2 screen alignment up top. But as the Clippers are getting ready to switch and defend Ross, the first screener which is Otto Porter here, slips it and sprints to the paint, where as you can see there is nobody. So we have the pass from Terrence and the finish for the layup. All happening in 1 continuous motion from the very beginning of the play, all the way till the end. Great execution. The Clippers did have a nice out of bounds action of their own. Luke Kennard sets a back screen for Kawhi, but then immediately cuts towards the baseline and gets one himself from Patterson. As he gets the ball there’s that little hesitation that is enough to get the defender in the air, so then he raises up and swishes this one to beat the halftime buzzer. Once again here it is full speed for you to see what happens. Let me know if you like more videos like this one, since they’re so fun for me to make. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
Right here we got 2 Celtics defenders trying to trap Zion. As he goes to drive, there’s a third one swiping at the ball, and finally a fourth one meeting him at the rim. But none of that matters as Williamson overpowers all of them for 2 of his 28 points in a win for the Pelicans. Now, Zion is a beast, plus Boston didn’t have Jaylen Brown for this game, so there are a lot of excuses for them if you wanna go that way, but still, there are some glaring issues as well, and we need to talk about them. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Marcus Smart having a J.R. Smith moment and zoning out is not really a problem but it’s too funny not to include it in the video. Shot clock running down, great energy on defense and Payton Pritchard makes it a jump ball with only 0.3 seconds left on the Pelicans shot clock. Thing is of course if the Celtics get it, that’s a change of possession and a fresh shot clock. But then look at Smart heaving it one handed from half court for the buzzer beater as he forgot who had possession before the jump ball. Anyway, Marcus is a high effort guy, usually pretty Smart- no pun intended, and this is by no means a real representation of what he brings to this team. What’s also not a real representation is the 0 for 10 that Evan Fournier shot in his Celtics debut. First shot of the game for him, good movement, fakes the cut, goes out, gets the screen, an open look and the shot, but backrims it. Again right here, nice hard drive to the rim but somehow the ball just rolls out. And once again, good recognition by Smart as he sets a screen for Evan and another open look but another miss. What I’m trying to say is he’s a 20 point per game scorer and I like the flow and the shots that he can get in Boston with these guys. So he’ll definitely start knocking them down and that will help the Celtics a lot. Offensively, one of the biggest issues for them has been the reliance of isolation basketball. And they are near the bottom of the league when it comes to assists per game. Hopefully adding another guy who can shoot the ball and move around the court like Fournier, will spice things up for the Celtics. However it’s worth mentioning that they once again got beat in the assists column by a lot. And perhaps the biggest issue for Boston was evident in this game, and that is defense. The Pelicans were blazing hot shooting the ball, and they were 50% from the field and an amazing 51% from three. They sure were able to hit some tough shots, but on the other hand, teams get hot pretty often against the Celtics. Brad Stevens’s guys are 21st in defense. That’s nowhere near good enough for a team wanting to go deep in the playoffs. I mean look at some of these points that the Pelicans were getting inside. This is too easy. And when you watch their big men and how they looked helpless at times in this game, it’s easy to imagine a similar thing happening in the postseason as well, with Brooklyn adding Griffin and Aldridge, Philly with Joel Embiid of course, Bucks with Giannis, and even Miami who are in a similar slump as the Celtics, but they do have Bam Adebayo inside. I said this in my video about the trades, but Boston needed to get Vucevic and they missed him, so now with the way the roster is, as much as I love watching them play, and as much as I’d like to be wrong on this one, I don’t see the Celtics beating any of the big teams in the East. So this could easily end up being a first round exit, and some changes could be coming in the off season. Let me know what you think about them and if they can do anything to save their season. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
Trash talking is definitely not the reason why T.J. Mcconnell drives opponents crazy. He’s actually a really nice guy and he only performed for the audience here since he was mic’d up. So let me explain the real reason why the Pacers guard is possibly the most annoying player in the league. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Listed at a generous 6’1’’, he’s one of the shorter players in the league, and when you watch him run, that’s also one of the slower guards in today’s NBA. And the athleticism just, isn’t there okay? But still, with all that being said, T.J. leads the league in steals per game and this is why. He is so smart, and hunts these opportunities on inbound passes. What is usually the most relaxed portion of the possession, getting the ball in play, and taking it cross half court, Mcconnell stays aware and ready during that time, and turns it into a steal, and a bucket. Against the Bucks just yesterday, Indiana scores, and you can see T.J. already has his mind made up to go for it. Jrue doesn’t expect him, and the pass is lazy as well, which turns into a steal, and the basket counts as it was goaltending. Easy 2 points. Players always say how the most annoying guys to go against are those pesky defenders who run a lot and force turnovers. And I can only imagine it being even more infuriating when a smaller, slower, less athletic defender steals the ball right in front of their eyes. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking T.J., what he lacks in physical abilities, he makes up for it more than enough with his effort and IQ. Like, when I play I’m always the smallest guy so I strive to be just like him. And he’s been known for his effort and IQ from his days in Philly. Watch this: He sees the situation, little time left, Kyrie is ready waiting for the pass. So he sprints there, intercepts it, and banks it in for 2 easy and cheap points at the end of the quarter. Let me share a crazy statistic. Against the Cavs, Mcconnell had a triple double with steals. Dude had 10 steals, to go along with 13 assists and 16 points on 8 for 8 shooting. Talk about a great night. But that 10 steal triple double is something that only 5 other players have done in NBA history. And his game is more than just forcing turnovers. With 6.5 assists per game not only is T.J. by far the number 1 player when it comes to passing the ball, but he’s actually ranked 17th at the moment in the entire league, in front of high profile point guards like Steph Curry, John Wall, Kyrie Irving, Lonzo Ball, Mike Conley, the list goes on and on. Check this out: A week ago against the Miami Heat he went 8 for 9 from the field which is great, but then also racked up 15 assists. All that in just 29 minutes as a reserve, off the bench. Players know that he’ll always find them as he’s so unselfish, so Mcconnell is loved by his teammates here in Indiana just as much as he was in his time with the Sixers. At the end let me just showcase a part of his game that’s kinda funny to me. T.J. is shooting 55% from the field which is amazing, especially for a smaller guy like him, but the most interesting thing is, he’s not really a shooter like that. The reason for his efficiency is that he is smart about picking and choosing his opportunities but this is what gets me every time. His signature play. Mcconnell absolutely loves to weave his way all the way to the baseline on the right side and shoot a fadeaway from there. Again, continuing with the theme of this video, I assume it’s pretty frustrating to watch a guy go to his spot, and shoot a fadeaway over a taller defender and watch the ball go in every single time. Look I always say that I love high effort players, but T.J. Mcconnell is on a whole nother level. Plus he’s so unselfish, team oriented, and overall a great teammate. Extremely underrated. And the fact that he’s able to do so much at that size, in a way makes us-the mere mortals who are watching the games at home live the NBA life through him. I had a lot of fun making this video for a relatively unknown guy, so hopefully you enjoyed watching. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
Lamelo Ball drives to the basket but gets tripped up and falls on his right hand. Although he would continue to play, doing almost everything on the court exclusively with his left, after the game, the diagnosis came out to be a season ending fracture, confirming the worst fears for the Hornets franchise. Lamelo is the latest high profile player to get injured and miss a significant portion of the season after Anthony Davis, Joel Embiid, and Lebron James of course. Let me explain how this changes the landscape for awards such as rookie of the year, MVP and Most improved player as well, and why this is the nightmare scenario for the NBA. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Let’s start off with the MVP situation. The Lebron James media mafia kept mentioning him, and building his case and pushing the narrative for the king as a serious candidate, even though there are a lot of players just as deserving if not more than him this season. The campaign grew even stronger after Joel Embiid got injured. Completely disregarding players like Jokic who is averaging a damn near triple double double, all that while being within 3 games of Lebron’s Lakers. Or Damian Lillard, who has been holding this Blazers team with duct tape from falling apart, after injuries to both Nurkic and CJ Mccollum at the start of the season. Also with the same record as the Nuggets. And I have to mention the reigning MVP Giannis, who’s been on fire lately, leading the Bucks to 11 wins in their last 12 games. So now the plot thickens. I cannot remember the last time that the MVP race has been this wide open. And all these injuries could have huge implications. For example the next few games for the Lakers are looking scary. Even the Magic look like the favorites against this remaining LA roster. By the time Lebron gets back, how far will they fall in the standings? One important thing to keep an eye on in this whole situation however is the fact that James has a miraculous track record when it comes to ankle injuries. Throughout his career, there have been 8 times where he injured his ankle. And he missed a grand total of only 3 games before this one. So I don’t know, the fact that he was able to at least play a bit more after the injury, and given the situation that the Lakers are in, I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets back on the court sooner rather than later, and with that continue his pursuit for the MVP. And the latest news on Embiid from the always reliable Chams Charania is that Joel is feeling much better than expected in these first few days from his injury. So he might also push to come back in a sixers uniform. But the people at the NBA offices are sort of biting their nails watching this, as they definitely wouldn’t want their superstars to rush things and get back too early to a point where they possibly re-aggravate their injuries just in time for the playoffs- when it matters the most of course. So although Adam Silver and company are happy that a lot of players are performing at a high level and the race for the most valuable player is competitive, the injuries of the elite such as Bron, AD and Joel are making things extremely scary for them. The thought of a conference finals between the Jazz and the Nuggets for example is suicidal for the TV ratings. As much as a basketball purist like me would love that to happen. And they’ll never admit this, but having the Lakers be in it at the end, is what the league wants and needs. And for that to happen, both Lebron and Anthony Davis have to be healthy come playoff time. With all that being said however, there is a real possibility that these top 2 MVP candidates miss a lot of time in the regular season, and the award to be won by another player as a partial consequence of the injuries. Which leads us to the Rookie of the year debate where if everything stays the same, it’s almost definitive that Anthony Edwards is now the favorite to win it, solely as a result of this new situation and the injury that Lamelo suffered. Check this out. They have been neck and neck when it comes to scoring throughout the entire season, however Ball has been outstanding with his 6 assists per game, helping get Charlotte in the playoff picture, when nobody could even dream about it happening. So there was no doubt up until this point who’s been the best rookie. However, missing almost half of the remaining season, removes a player from the conversation almost by default. Guys like Tyrese Halliburton who I really love, and Immanuel Quickley who I’ve already made a video about are now all of a sudden also in the Rookie of the year debate, alongside James Wiseman. But again, if you give truth serum to some of the lead guys in the NBA offices, they’ll admit that the ideal scenario would be for a flashy guy like Lamelo to win it, all while transforming a losing franchise into a playoff team.
What initially looks like a high pick and roll for Conley is actually a decoy, as Gobert is gonna run to the wing, to screen for one of the most dangerous offensive players for the Jazz. Jordan Clarkson curls, catches, fires and scores. Utah has been relying on Clarkson, running these picks up top for him to get 3 point looks, and because of his underrated speed and the quick release, he is always able to get it up, and deliver for his team. So with him being on fire this season, NBA players are praising him big time, and there’s even 1 superstar that said he wanted to be like him. Stick around to check out who it was. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Check out his sneakiness and speed. Right here he’ll curl past the handoff, before going skrrrt skrrrt on Curry, getting back to the ball, the screen, the shot and the bucket. This was just 1 of his 8 threes against Philly on the way to a 40 point night against the Sixers. That’s 40 points off the bench yall. Clarkson is the first reserve this season to score that many points. He was so hot that his teammates needed to cool him off after the game. WATER BOTTLE CLIP yhile you’re watching his phenomenally underrated floater package, let me just tell you that no water bottle showers are gonna cool him off this season, since Jordan is the leading scorer off the bench with 18 points per game. Those 18 points per game make him the second leading scorer on the top team in the league. For real, Clarkson is right behind Donovan Mitchell, all that while being a reserve. That’s how important he is to the Jazz and their wild success so far this year. Okay, so now that you’ve seen a lot of these floaters, let me share a staggering statistic. Dude is 62 out of 94 on these shots which is an incredible 66%. That’s crazy. Only centers who play under the basket can get that type of efficiency. I recently made a video about Immanuel Quickley, the guy who only shoots floaters. Well, I was surprised to find out that he’s got less made and at a lower percentage. Again, Jordan Clarkson’s floater game is 1) automatic and 2) suuuper underrated. Keep an eye on him for that throughout the rest of the season. Moving on, another thing that he’s great at is the post up. Clarkson is so smart with his dribble, not wasting time, going straight to the rim, a little bump, the half spin and the shot. Look at him knowing exactly where he wants to get. In the middle of the paint, and as he gets cut off, bumps, spins and scores. Jordan is relying more on this shot as this year he completely removed the midrange from his game, becoming a 3s and paint type of guy. While that can work for some, but not for others- with Clarkson it seems like it’s a recipe for success, as both the points are up, and the efficiency is there. And with all that the Jazz are getting from Jordan, the trust in him is high. And I mean, to the moon. Look at all these shots in transition. This may seem crazy to some of you, but he’s been making them. At 37% on very high attempts, that’s putting Utah at number 1 in the entire league in made threes, and number 3 in percentage. You understand how deadly of a combination that is right? Shoot a lot of threes, make a lot of threes is the dream scenario for any team. You know what’s the funniest thing about him tho? Jordan has a ton and I mean a ton of bombs right at the end of the shot clock as you can see in these few examples. And there’s a reason behind it which I’ll get to in a second. The team is actually looking for Clarkson if there’s nothing going on in the possession and they need a bailout shot. Look at this: As the shot clock is hitting single digits, look at Mike Conley not liking what he’s seeing as he signals right away for Ingles to just get the ball to Clarkson. And that’s exactly what happens, as Joe finds him, my guy immediately fires away and banks it in. Now check out the hilarious reason, and story that Jordan Clarkson told in a recent podcast. I started laughing immediately as I heard this. Dude is ready to get it up there in any situation and at any cost. Props to you for that. And speaking of the ultra green light that Jordan has, check out what a superstar of Dwyane Wade’s caliber had to say about him. To get such a high praise from a guy like D-Wade is awesome, but even his peers in the league are showing him mad respect as he is the clear favorite for the 6th man of the year award. When you look at the whole picture, it all makes sense. Highest scorer off the bench, efficient, and leading his team to the best record in the league. That’s amazing. As you look at the top 10 reserves, there’s no way that any of them has anywhere close to the combined success that Jordan is having so far this year. Charles Barkley even went as far as saying that Clarkson had a better season than Anthony Davis at the all star break and put him on his ballot.
Giannis won the All Star Game MVP by going 16 out of 16 from the field. And later in the postgame interview he celebrated like Lebron James. Let me show you a few more interesting moments from the All Star Game that you may have missed. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. After winning the 3 point shootout with the last shot, Steph Curry continued his lights out shooting in the actual game as well. And for those of you that missed it, Steph did his signature look away with the ball still in the air. A classic that never gets old. And on the topic of shooting, of course you saw the wild half court barrage that him and Damian Lillard had. And Dame of course ended the game that way, with a shot from the logo. The most interesting thing for me here is that Curry already knew what was about to happen as soon as Lillard got the ball. So he started waving goodbye announcing that the game is over. And of course it was over at that same moment. So after all those long range shots by Portland’s superstar, Paul George finally admitted in the postgame interview that the Blazers vs Thunder playoff three, is actually not a bad shot. You all remember this right? Well here is PG admitting that he was wrong. BTW did you know that this is the first official basketball game that Steph and Lebron have been on the same team? They haven’t played together in the All Star Game before nor have they been on the same Team USA roster. So it was great to see moments like these as we got a glimpse of what could have been if these 2 played together on the same roster. This is literally a cheat code. The mutual respect and appreciation continued after the game on twitter as you can see with Lebron leading the way, and Curry responding. My favorite thing from the entire All Star is probably seeing how much fun Nikola Jokic had, and how much he enjoyed being out there. Like look at him, he is acting crazy after the simplest bucket ever, then check out his reaction on the Giannis three. Hilarious. And these 2 definitely had great chemistry, as we see Nikola teaching Giannis some dancing moves on the bench. And at the end, Antetokounmpo borrowed the MVP trophy to Jokic, so that he can feel like he won it. Man this is too funny seeing that big of a dude acting with pure joy like a little kid. In the postgame he joked about being snubbed from the All Star Game MVP for the second consecutive year. This dude is one of the funniest characters in the league. To top things off, he wore a mismatch colored sneakers in the game, and for those of you that haven’t seen his logo, check it out, I think it's a pretty cool design. The Joker hat with the initials and the number. Good job Nike. Did you see this? Jaylen Brown tried to pass it to himself and dunk it off the backboard. This was paying homage to Tracy Mcgrady who famously did it first, and Brown even had the same shoes that T-Mac was rocking back then. So it was a shame that he wasn’t able to finish it properly. And you all saw these back to back alley oops between Steph and CP3. They almost never dunk in-game, and that is especially true for Chris Paul. So with his first dunk of the season, he surpassed Blake Griffin, who hasn’t dunked in more than a year. Now that’s a mind blowing fact in itself. Speaking of Blake Griffin however, I know that he wasn’t in the game itself, but the news about his move to the Brooklyn Nets happened yesterday, so some of you may have missed it. Yeah, as if they weren’t stacked enough, now Blake comes in as extra firepower and according to Woj, the Nets plan to utilize him as a small ball center with the second unit. While talking about Brooklyn, here’s how his new teammate Kyrie Irving came to the game. We’ve seen him arriving at games like this a few times already, so this is nothing new but just wanted to mention it as part of the things that you guys may have missed from the All Star. And at the very end I do like to point out that even tho the dunk contest was a bit disappointing, we did see 1 dunk that we haven’t seen before. And that was this slam from Obi Topin which in my opinion received a way lower score than it should have. People who follow the league closely, probably saw Zach Lavine do this during a pre-game warm up, but technically this hasn’t been done in a dunk contest. And I also wanna comment on the winning dunk by Anfernee Simmons. Even tho the execution wasn’t the greatest, I love the idea, and this is something that Dwight Howard was practicing before one of his dunk contests a few years ago, but as you can see he also couldn’t do it although he was close as well, so he ended up not trying it in the actual contest. So yeah, all in all it was fun to take a break from the grind of the season, and Lebron definitely did that as he played the least minutes out of any player in the game.

Lebron vs Obama clip Although this was said as a joke, we all pretty much knew that this is the plan. To be as rested as possible, so that James can once again perform at the highest level when it matters the most. In the playoffs. Davis helps carry the load and the Lakers easily go through the season. Sounds like a great plan. However all of that went out the window when AD got injured as James is all of a sudden playing heavy minutes and exhausting himself at 36 years of age- just to keep the Lakers competitive in the west. And they’re paying the price for it. Let me explain. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. The guys in purple in gold have now dropped 3 straight games. If we can somehow justify the two against the Brooklyn Nets, and the Miami Heat, then this last one against the Washington Wizards in which they had a 17 point lead at one point is definitely a surprise. But should it be? LA looked lost at times when Lebron was on the bench or wasn’t directly involved in the offensive possessions. So that forced the coach Frank Vogel to play him 43 minutes. And in the last 9 games he’s played 4 games over 40 minutes. This is a huge workload for a player at this stage of his career, even considering that we’re talking about Superman himself. Check out this staggering impact that Anthony Davis’s injury had on Lebron. When the brow is playing- James ranks 50th in the league in minutes per game. However with him sidelined the king is #1 in the league in that category. And again, all that just to try to have this team be competitive, although as of late, even that isn’t helping them much. There are times where you can clearly see him being impacted by it whether in game, and he even laid on the video board during a time out to try and rest up a little. Against the Wizards James gave everything he had on this drive to tie the game scoring through contact. And he had the win in his hands pretty much with a free throw with less than 10 seconds to go. Buuut the fatigue caught up to him and he missed it. Leaving us to watch more drama in the overtime period. Anyway, after the game Lebron was explicit in denying the fact that he’s tired, or that he needs rest, or that the team is in trouble. But is he right about it? The fact of the matter is that the Lakers are already on a 3 game losing streak, with their next 3 games being against the hottest team in the league in Utah Jazz, then they play Dame Lillard and the Blazers, and to top it off, a game against Steph Curry and the Warriors. So things are definitely not gonna get any easier for this team. Anthony Davis will be sidelined for a longer period of time. He was originally given a 2-3 week timetable, but after re-evaluating him, the prognosis indicate that he’ll definitely miss more than that. And Dennis Schroder will be out for at least the first of these 3 games as he’s in the contact tracing protocol so if he continues to test negative, the quickest he could be back is against the Blazers, meaning that they’ll miss him on the perimeter against an explosive guy like Donovan Mitchell. And this game against Utah is more important than it seems at first sight. Let me explain why. If you look at the standings right now, the Jazz have a comfortable lead in front of the 2 LA teams, and that gap could get even wider with a win on Wednesday. And you may already asume where I’m going with this. Although there is still a lot to play in this season, if Utah manages to keep the top spot in the West, that means that there will most likely be a second round showdown between the Lakers and the Clippers. Which is of course yet another complication for them, in addition to the injuries and the overall up and down season so far. Sure, barring a meltdown like the Clippers had last year, Lebron and company would need to go through them to go to the finals anyway, but it would be much easier if they had 2 quick playoff rounds like they had in the bubble when they went 4-1 in each round on their way to the conference finals. So yeah, it remains to be seen how long the brow will be absent from the court, and if the Lakers try to adjust Lebron’s minutes in order to preserve him for the playoffs, even if that means losing a few more games, and being a lower seed. There’s also talk about getting Demarcus Cousins. Who knows. Let me know what do you think about this whole situation and what will happen at the end. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
Watching Ben Simmons airball completely wide open threes is nothing new. I mean look at this shot. It looks like a total amateur shot it. But what if I told you the secret that nobody mentions. That Simmons is actually a huge 3 point threat. Confused? Let me explain. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. The sixers point guard is 1 for 6 from downtown so far this season, and here is the only three for you to see in all of its glory. However even with this insignificant line, and even with all the criticism towards him throughout the years, there is one statistic that will completely change your perception about him in relation to 3 point shooting. Check this out. Simmons leads the league in 3 point assists with 93, but the most staggering thing is the fact that when Ben Simmons is on the floor, the Sixers are shooting almost 41% on threes which is the second best percentage in the league at the moment. However when he’s off the floor, that number goes down to 29.0% which is by far the worst mark of any team in the league. That’s an unbelievable difference and we have to go deeper and try to break down why this happens. To be honest however, the story is pretty simple. The guy is a 1 man wrecking crew. Right here, he goes head first against 4 Timberwolves defenders all trying to stop him from getting to the rim. And as you can see, with nobody around him-Tobias Harris has all the time in the world to shoot this practice shot. And against Boston, at this moment Simmons is almost the last person on the court, but he outruns everyone with the ball in his hands, and again 4 guys around him, finds the open shooter and the bucket of course. And I can already hear you saying it, this is in transition but what happens when the game slows down. In half court offense. Well check out what happens. Right here Embiid is fighting for position and seems open for the lob. Ben is gonna fake the pass and get the help defender to commit and then rifle a bullet pass to Danny Green in the corner. There’s no time for a recovery and the open shot goes in. There are a ton of examples however as you can see- where Simmons penetrates and outmuscles his primary defender, so the help has to come, and he’s so intelligent that as soon as he sees that second body, immediately looks for the shooter. It’s either the penetration or the backdown that forces the opposing teams to send help and to leave a guy like Seth Curry, Danny Green or Tobias Harris just waiting for their opportunity to knock it down. And speaking of Seth Curry I’ve said it in a previous video but to me the guy really is an elite shooter. He’s not just Steph’s brother anymore. Way more than that. Shooting 49.3% from downtown is absolutely deadly, and if I’m Doc Rivers, I will look for ways to get his attempts way higher, since 2 out of 4 shots is way too low, Curry has proven that he can knock it down. But back to Simmons, I just wanted to make this video just for myself first and foremost, since I’m really not the biggest fan of his. I feel like having no shot is really limiting especially in the playoffs, but then when I saw the numbers it hit me, and I guess Doc Rivers was right when he said that in order to really appreciate Ben, you need to coach him, and really see how the game goes with and without him. Both on offense and on defence. That’s it for now, subscribe and help me get to 500 thousand subscribers. Talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
