FORT WAYNE, IN (June 12) – Matteo Gennaro scored twice in a four-minute span in the third period and Wichita held off a late rally from Fort Wayne for a 4-2 win on Saturday night at Memorial Coliseum. The Thunder ties their first round series with the Komets at two and will play Monday night for a deciding Game 5. Spencer Dorowicz gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead at 9:41 of the first. He tried to center a pass from the left corner, but it hit a skate and went past Dylan Ferguson for his second of the playoffs. A.J. Jenks tied it at 11:35 with a power play tally. He tipped home a shot from the blue line for his third of the series. After a scoreless second period, Gennaro broke the tie just 56 seconds into the third. He came into the zone up the right wing, cut the middle and fired a shot past Ferguson's glove to make it 2-1. At 4:35, he recorded his second of the game to make it 3-1. Cam Clarke came up the ice with him on an odd-man break, fed a pass across and Gennaro one-timed it past Ferguson for his third of the playoffs. Justin Vaive cut the lead to one at 17:36 with his second of the series. Matthew Boudens took a shot from the right circle that popped up in the air. Clarke tried to swipe it to the corner with his hand, but missed the puck and Vaive put in the rebound to make it 3-2. The Komets had a faceoff with 1:31 left and pulled Ferguson for the extra attacker. Bobby McMann stole a pass in the neutral zone, fed it ahead to Anthony Beauregard and he found an empty net to make it 4-2.

FORT WAYNE, IN (June 11) – Dylan Ferguson stopped 29 shots and Fort Wayne scored twice in the second period to earn a 3-0 win over the Thunder on Friday night at Memorial Coliseum. The Komets take a 2-1 series lead against Wichita in their first round series. Wichita came out strong in the first and had a flurry of chances on Ferguson. The Komets closed the opening frame with 12 shots and had several good opportunities late that Evan Buitenhuis was able to stop. In the second, Fort Wayne took a 1-0 lead with a controversial goal at 9:27. A.J. Jenks came up the left wing, cut to the slot and fired a shot past Buitenhuis. The Thunder argued for goalie interference as Justin Vaive made contact with him in the crease. The goal was reviewed, but was allowed to stand. Less than a minute later, another goal was reviewed after Stephen Harper fired a shot from the left wall past Buitenhuis. Just like the first one, his goal was allowed to stand and Fort Wayne led 2-0. The Komets added an insurance goal at 7:50 of the third as Brandon Hawkins fired a shot from the right circle past Buitenhuis to make it 3-0. Ferguson held off a late rally and grabbed the shutout victory.

WICHITA, Kan. (June 8) – Anthony Nellis scored with 25 seconds left and Fort Wayne held off Wichita in Game 1 of the Western Conference Semifinals, 3-2, on Tuesday night at the Wichita Ice Center. Gordie Green and Ryan White scored for the Thunder. Evan Buitenhuis took the loss, stopping 29 shots he faced. The first period was an even battle between the two teams with both firing 12 shots on net. Wichita had the first two power play chances, but couldn't solve Dylan Ferguson. In the second, Green scored at 9:05 as he fired home a one-timer from Alex Peters for his first playoff goal of his career. Nellis tied the game at 17:30 as he caught a pass from Marc-Olivier Roy in front of Buitenhuis and beat him over the blocker. White gave the Thunder a 2-1 lead at 7:15 of the third as he took a pass from Beau Starrett and scored from the left post. At 10:22, Randy Gazzola scored a controversial goal that tied it at two. As he was skating up the left side, Buitenhuis was interfered with at the right post. Gazzola skated through the traffic and tucked in a wrist shot. Nellis scored his second of the game at 19:35 that would be the eventual game-winner. Wichita pulled Buitenhuis and had one last offensive-zone face-off. Bobby McMann came across the crease with a chance to tie it, but was knocked down near the far post and the Komets held on for the 3-2 victory.

INDEPENDENCE, MO (June 5) – Kansas City scored four unanswered goals in the second period and skated away with a 5-2 win over Wichita on Saturday night at Cable Dahmer Arena. Gordie Green and Matteo Gennaro scored for the Thunder with assists going to Spencer Dorowicz, Dean Stewart and Garrett Schmitz. Kansas City got the scoring started early in the first as Brodie Reid found the net at 2:32. Giorgio Estephan made a terrific pass through the slot to Reid and he buried a one-timer past Evan Weninger. At 11:15, Green tied the game at one with his eighth of the year. He found a rebound off a shot from Dorowicz at the left post and put home a backhand. Gennaro gave Wichita its first lead at 15:43 as Schmitz found him in front of the net for his 26th of the year. Late in the frame, the game turned when Schmitz and Ryan White got into a post-whistle altercation near the front of the Kansas City net. White and Schmitz were both assessed a two-minute minor and a 10-minute misconduct. Kansas City took advantage in the second as Lane Scheidl scored at 1:32 to tie the game at two. Estephan found the net for the eventual game-winner at 12:40 to make it a 3-2 game. Less than a minute later, Reid scored his second of the game and 25th of the year to make it 4-2. Marcus Crawford tacked on one more on the power play at 16:33 to make it 5-2. The Mavericks outshot the Thunder 23-2 in the period and took a three-goal lead into the final frame. Matt Greenfield held the fort down the stretch, stopping 14 shots in the third and made 32 saves in the game. Wichita went 0-for-5 on the man advantage while Kansas City was 1-for-6. White led all players with 16 penalty minutes. Gennaro has goals in two of his last three games and points in three of his last four.

WICHITA, Kan. (May 11) – Wichita raced out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back in a 5-2 win on Tuesday night at INTRUST Bank Arena. Evan Buitenhuis was outstanding, stopping 38 shots and earned his 13th win of the season. Five different players found the net and 11 players registered points. Dorowicz put the Thunder on the board at 2:23 of the first period. He caught a pass from Brayden Watts through the middle of the Mavericks zone and beat Andrew Shortridge to make it 1-0. At 4:29, Crinella made it 2-0 with his 13th of the season. He fought through a check on the end wall, skated across the blue paint and stuffed it past Shortridge. Ryan White returned to the lineup after missing the last few games and made his presence felt in the second. He picked off a pass on the left wall, walked to the middle and rifled a shot past Shortridge. Wichita made it 4-0 at 11:11 when Stephen Johnson raced after a loose puck that came off the end wall and he put it past Shortridge, who was caught out of the net. Matt Greenfield entered the game and Shortridge's night was finished. Kansas City tried to make things interesting as Lane Scheidl scored a pair of goals in the third. His first came at 5:49 on the power play. He got to a rebound and broke up the shutout bid from Buitenhuis to make it 4-1. Scheidl scored his 18th of the year at 16:44 as he skated through the neutral zone, came down on his off-wing and beat Buitenhuis to make it 4-2. The Mavericks pulled Greenfield with 2:40 left in regulation. Jay Dickman stole a loose puck from Matt Petgrave, shot it from the top of his own zone into an empty net and made it 5-2. Wichita sweeps the three-game mini-series with Buitenhuis getting all three wins over Kansas City. The Thunder move into first place with a .672 winning percentage. Dorowicz finished with a goal and an assist. Brayden Watts had two helpers. Riley McCourt picked up an assist, which is his first point in a Thunder uniform.

Independence, MO (May 6) – Stefan Fournier scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner midway through the third period to help Wichita hold off Kansas City, 7-5, on Thursday night at Cable Dahmer Arena. Anthony Beauregard, Jay Dickman and Dean Stewart each collected two points and Evan Buitenhuis came on in relief to earn his 11th win of the season. After a scoreless first period, the two teams combined for seven goals and 34 penalty minutes in the second. Fournier recorded his first of the game at 1:21. Beauregard made a highlight reel move through the slot and fed a pass to Fournier. He fired a one-timer past Matt Ginn for his 18th of the season. Kansas City tied it at 6:25 as Giorgio Estephan tallied his eighth of the year. Matteo Gennaro gave the Thunder a 2-1 lead at 7:53 as he redirected a pass from Stewart for his 22nd of the year. At 10:15, Darik Angeli tied the game with his 17th of the season. Beauregard found a rebound near the front of the crease at 14:31 to make it 3-2. At 15:05, Spencer Dorowicz made a terrific pass across the goalmouth to Garrett Schmitz and he found a wide-open net to make it 4-2. Kansas City got one back at 17:18 as Lane Scheidl put home a rebound after Ian Scott made the initial save and made it 4-3. Buitenhuis came into the game at the start of the third for Scott. Nick Pastujov scored at 3:24 to tie the game at four. Brayden Watts answered 23 seconds later as he got around a defenseman and fired a wrist shot past Ginn to make it 5-4. At 10:06, Greg Moro tied the game at five with a long wrist shot from the deep slot. Fournier scored the game-winner at 10:38 when he caught up to a clearing attempt from Mathieu Gagnon. Fournier protected the puck as he got behind Noah Delmas and beat Ginn for his 19th of the year. Dickman found an empty-net at 19:16 to close the scoring at 7-5. Wichita improved its winning percentage to .661. The Thunder are 8-0-1 at Cable Dahmer Arena this year. The Thunder improved to 4-0-0 when scoring 7 goals in a game. Stewart collected two assists and pushed his point-streak to 11 games. Beauregard added a goal and an assist, giving him a goal and an assist in back-to-back games and points in eight-straight. Fournier recorded his fourth multi-goal game of the season. Dickman has goals in back-to-back games and three points over that stretch. Gennaro has goals in three-straight and points in his last four.

ALLEN, TX (April 30) - Wichita began a three-game series in Allen with a shootout loss to the Americans, 3-2, on Friday night at the Allen Event Center. Dean Stewart had two points while Beau Starrett and Anthony Beauregard found the net. Evan Buitenhuis was outstanding in the losing effort, making 35 saves. The game got off to a physical start as an altercation ensued just 28 seconds into the game. Allen was awarded a five-on-three power play and Ryan White was assessed a game misconduct. The Thunder penalty kill did a great job and killed off the man advantage. Starrett gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead with a power play goal at 6:22 of the first period. He caught a pass up the seam from Stewart, skated in with Matteo Gennaro all alone and beat Jake Paterson. Spencer Asuchak scored his first of two at 13:50 with a power play goal and tied it at one. In the second, the Americans outshot the Thunder, 16-7 and took a 2-1 lead at 5:04 when Asuchak found some room near the slot and put home a one-timer for his 16th of the year. Beauregard tied it at two at 9:25 of the third. Jay Dickman fired a shot from the deep slot that banked off the end wall. Beauregard found the bouncing puck at the left post and scored his 21st of the season. In the overtime session, Allen had some terrific scoring chances denied by Buitenhuis. Brett Neumann got behind the defense coming up the left wing and went right across the front of the net. Buitenhuis was able to make the save to keep the game tied. The two teams would need a shootout to decide the outcome. The penalty shot round was dominated by the netminders as both teams were shut down through seven rounds. At the top of round eight, Zane Franklin scored to make it 1-0. Brayden Watts was stopped to try to extend the shootout and Allen claimed the win. Wichita appeared in its first shootout since March 7. The two teams combined for 58 penalty minutes. Stewart extends his point-streak to eight games. Beauregard has goals in back-to-back games and points in five-straight. Starrett has points in three-straight and points in five of the last six games.

INDEPENDENCE, MO (April 24) - Brodie Reid scored at 5:36 of overtime to help Kansas City get past Wichita on Saturday night at Cable Dahmer Arena. Charlie Combs and Dean Stewart had goals for the Thunder in regulation while Hayden Lavigne suffered the overtime loss, stopping 29 shots. Kansas City scored early for the second game in a row as Bryan Lemos found the net at 1:55 to make it 1-0. Early in the second, Charlie Combs tied the game as he caught a pass in the high slot from Anthony Beauregard and beat Matt Greenfield. Stewart connected on a power play at 11:23 to make it 2-1 for the Thunder with assists to Beau Starrett and Jay Dickman. Lemos tied the game with his second of the contest at 19:17. He fired a one-timer at the tail-end of a power play and beat Lavigne from the left circle. Kansas City outshot the Thunder 13-10 in the final period, but neither team could find the net. For the second game in a row, overtime was needed. In the extra period, Reid took a loose puck along the end wall. He wrapped a backhand on the left side of the net that got through Lavigne for his 21st of the season and the game-winner. Wichita's streak of not allowing a power play goal was snapped at eight games. The Thunder have power play goals in five of the last six contests. Wichita also suffered its first blemish of the year at Cable Dahmer Arena. The Thunder are 7-0-1-0 on the road in the season-series against the Mavericks. Combs added his third of the season and Stewart potted his sixth. Dickman has assists in four-straight. Beauregard has points in three-straight and five of his last six games.
