Locked On Red Sox POSTCAST- Tyler O'Neill Hit 2 Bombs & Sox Won Their 2nd In a Row over White Sox
The Red Sox made it back-to-back wins with a 7-5 victory over the White Sox Saturday night at Fenway Park. Tyler O'Neill went deep 2 times and Cooper Criswell worked 5 innings in the start. The Red Sox are still 5 games below .500 at home (33-38) but have won 4 of their last 5 at Fenway. ----- On the Board 1st: The White Sox got on the board 1st for the 2nd straight night and Saturday night it was Andrew Vaughn hitting a 2-out, 2-run Home Run off Criswell. It was Vaughn's 17th Home Run of the season and his 3rd against the Red Sox. ----- Sox on the Board: The Red Sox wasted no time getting on the board with 4 runs in the Home 1st Inning against Garrett Crochet. Jarren Duran led off with a single and he went 1st to 3rd on a Double from Rafael Devers. Rob Refsnyder picked up an RBI with a groundout and then Tyler O'Neill put the Red Sox in front for good with a 2-run Home Run. Romy Gonzalez singled, stole 2nd, stole 3rd and scored on an RBI Double from Connor Wong that put the Red Sox up, 4-2. ----- Adding On: The Sox added on with 2 more runs in the 3rd Inning. Romy Gonzalez knocked in a run with a Double and he scored on an RBI Single from Trevor Story, who was activated from the Injured List prior to the game. ----- Another Tyler Bomb: Tyler O'Neill made it 7-2 with his 2nd Home Run of the game in the 5th Inning. It's the 6th time this season where O'Neill hit 2 Home Runs in a game and it's his 11th multi-home run game of his career. ----- Cooper's Night: After working 4 perfect innings in his last outing Sunday at Detroit, Cooper Criswell went 5 full innings and did not give up another run after allowing the 2-out, 2-run Home Run to Vaughn in the 1st. Criswell induced 2 groundball Double Plays and got 10 groundball outs over his 5 innings. Criswell has allowed 4 runs total over his last 5 starts. Sox are now 12-7 in his 17 starts on the season. #64's Final Line- 5.0 IP. 6 Hits. 2 R. 2 ER. 2 BB. 0 K. 79P/50 Strikes. ----- Remember Andrew?: Former Red Sox 1st-round pick Andrew Benintendi made it a 2-run game with a 3-run Home Run off of Chase Shugart in the 7th Inning. It was Benintendi's 16th Home Run this season. It was his 23rd career Home Run at Fenway. Boston selected Benintendi in the 1st round (7th overall) out of the University of Arkansas (Fayetteville) in 2015. ----- Streaks Snapped: The Sox snapped a streak of 17 straight games with 9 hits or less in Saturday's win. Sox had 10 hits (2 HR, 3 2B, & 5 Singles) in the win. With the 7 runs, the Sox ended a streak of 6 straight games, scoring 3 runs or less. Club still has Single-Digit hit totals in 24 of its last 29 Games. ----- Closing the Door in the 9th: Kenley Jansen retired the side 1-2-3 in the 9th Inning for his 26th career save and the 446th of his career. Locked On Sports POSTCAST- Masa Yoshida Helps Lead Sox Offense in Win over Mariners
The Red Sox got back in the win column Monday night at Fenway Park with an (14-7) victory over the Seattle Mariners in the series opener between the 2 clubs. Red Sox sent 11 batters to the plate and scored 7 runs in the 3rd inning. The Red Sox collected 8 hits in the inning, including 1 Home Run and 4 Doubles. Nick Pivetta rebounded from his rough outing last time out in Denver and collected his 5th win. 6 different hitters had multi-hit games in the Sox 56th win of the season. ----- Hitting Is Contagious: Red Sox went 1-2-3 in the 1st & 1-2-3 in the 2nd against starting pitcher Logan Gilbert. Connor Wong got things going in the 3rd with a leadoff single and he scored from 3rd on a wild pitch with the game's 1st run. Sox were far from done. Wilyer Abreu delivered a 2-out, RBI single to make it 2-0. Next hitter, Masa Yoshida smacked a 2-run Home Run to give the Red Sox a 4-0 lead. Rafael Devers doubled after Yoshida's Home Run to keep the inning going. Tyler O'Neill, Dominic Smith and Wong all followed with RBI Doubles. ----- Pivetta on His Game: Nick Pivetta got back on track and improved to 5-7 with the victory. #37's Line- 6.2 IP. 6 Hits. 3 Runs. 3 Earned Runs. 1 Walk. 10 Strikeouts. 2 Home Runs allowed. Boston sent infield prospect Nick Yorke to the Pirates and received RHP Quinn Priester back from the Pirates. Priester has pitched in the Big Leagues each of the last 2 seasons. Locked On Red Sox POSTCAST- Red Sox Drop Another Tough 1 on Road Trip
The Red Sox dropped their 4th straight game with a disappointing 9-8, 12-inning loss the Colorado Rockies Monday night at Coors Field. Ezequiel Tovar knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the 12th with a bases loaded single off of Chase Anderson. The Rockies scored 2 runs in the 12th after the Red Sox took the lead in the top of the inning on a 2-out RBI single off the bat of Wilyer Abreu. Red Sox came from behind twice in the game and didn't take their 1st lead of the game until the top of the 10th inning. Tanner Houck made the start and gave up 4 runs (4 ER) in the 3rd inning, but that was it. Charlie Blackmon hit a 2-run Home Run to get the Rockies on the board and 5 straight hitters reached and 4 runs scored before Houck was able to record an out. The Red Sox got all 4 runs back against Austin Gomber in the 5th inning. Jamie Westbrook got the Red Sox to within a run with a 3-run Home Run. Jarren Duran followed with a triple, his 11th on the year and first since June 9th against the White Sox, and he scored on an RBI single from Rob Refsnyder. All four runs in the inning came with two outs against Gomber. Houck got a strike 'em out/throw 'em out double play to end the 5th inning. He worked around a double and a walk in the 6th and left with the game tied at 4-4. Houck gave up 10 hits total and 4 earned runs. He walked 3 and struck out 2. Josh Winckowski was the first out of the bullpen and he gave up a run in the 7th to put the Rockies in front, 5-4. Jacob Stallings broke the tie with a 2-out, RBI 2B to right. Red Sox answered right back and tied the game up for a second time on the night with Connor Wong going the opposite way with his 9th Home Run of the season and that evened the game at 5-5. Sox had runners at 1st and 2nd with one out, but Romy Gonzalez hit into an inning-ending double play. Cam Booser worked a 1-2-3 8th inning and kept the game even at 5-5. Zack Kelly got the bottom of the 9th and like Booser, he retired the Rockies in order. Red Sox took their first lead of the game in the top of the 10th. Jarren Duran started the inning at 2nd-base, and he scored on Dominic Smith's RBI Double. Sox weren't done and added a 2nd run on a Sacrifice Fly from Rafael Devers. Kelly got the 10th inning and appeared to balk on purpose before throwing a pitch and that allowed the runner at second to move to 3rd. After getting the first out, Kelly gave up a game-tying 2-run Home Run to Sam Hilliard. Red Sox stranded Tyler O'Neill at 3rd and failed to score in the top of the 11th. Greg Weissert stranded the potential winning run at 3rd in the bottom of the 11th. Ceddanne Rafaela made a great diving play up the middle and got Brenton Doyle at 1st for the 2nd out in the inning. After an intentional walk, Weissert came back and got Brendan Rogers on a ground out to Rafaela at short and that sent the game to the 12th. Alex Cora was ejected by home plate umpire Mark Wegner before the top of the 12th got underway. It was his 2nd of the season. Sox got a little 2-out magic in the 12th and went in front, 8-7, on Abreu's go-ahead run-scoring single. Locked On Red Sox POSTCAST Notes- Sox have lost 4 in a row for the 3rd time this season. Duran has hit safely in 6 in a row and has at least 1 extra-base hit in all 6 games. Tyler O'Neill had a 3-hit game. It's his 3rd in the month of July and 5th of the season.
