Locked On Sports POSTCAST- Masa Yoshida Helps Lead Sox Offense in Win over Mariners

The Red Sox got back in the win column Monday night at Fenway Park with an (14-7) victory over the Seattle Mariners in the series opener between the 2 clubs. Red Sox sent 11 batters to the plate and scored 7 runs in the 3rd inning. The Red Sox collected 8 hits in the inning, including 1 Home Run and 4 Doubles. Nick Pivetta rebounded from his rough outing last time out in Denver and collected his 5th win. 6 different hitters had multi-hit games in the Sox 56th win of the season. ----- Hitting Is Contagious: Red Sox went 1-2-3 in the 1st & 1-2-3 in the 2nd against starting pitcher Logan Gilbert. Connor Wong got things going in the 3rd with a leadoff single and he scored from 3rd on a wild pitch with the game's 1st run. Sox were far from done. Wilyer Abreu delivered a 2-out, RBI single to make it 2-0. Next hitter, Masa Yoshida smacked a 2-run Home Run to give the Red Sox a 4-0 lead. Rafael Devers doubled after Yoshida's Home Run to keep the inning going. Tyler O'Neill, Dominic Smith and Wong all followed with RBI Doubles. ----- Pivetta on His Game: Nick Pivetta got back on track and improved to 5-7 with the victory. #37's Line- 6.2 IP. 6 Hits. 3 Runs. 3 Earned Runs. 1 Walk. 10 Strikeouts. 2 Home Runs allowed. Boston sent infield prospect Nick Yorke to the Pirates and received RHP Quinn Priester back from the Pirates. Priester has pitched in the Big Leagues each of the last 2 seasons.
