Ferrari had an abysmal Mexican Grand Prix weekend, running miles off the pace and clearly being surpassed by Mercedes as the closest thing Red Bull and Max Verstappen have to a challenge right now. The gap from the front to the red cars of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc was so big it seemed reminiscent of this time a year ago, when Ferrari had established itself over McLaren as the third-fastest team in F1, but didn’t yet have the car to take the fight to Red Bull and Mercedes. So why was Mexico such a throwback? No F1 car that’s as fast as the Ferrari could suddenly turn that bad overnight in normal circumstances. But as we’ll explain in this video, Ferrari wasn’t operating in normal circumstances in Mexico City. #F1 #Ferrari #MexicoGP READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/the-compromise-that-forced-ferrari-into-a-dire-f1-weekend/ 00:00 Intro 00:41 The Mercedes factor 02:14 Ferrari's weakness 05:04 A bigger problem? Yet his long-term future is firmly tied to McLaren, a team with an illustrious history and big ambitions but that, in 2022, is struggling even to hang on to fourth in the constructors’ championship. When the 22-year-old committed his future to McLaren, there was plenty of interest in his services – including from Red Bull, a team that has just re-emerged as F1’s dominant force. On current form, every one of the big teams would look closely at signing Norris, who has excelled in F1’s midfield for McLaren for the past four years. Norris signed his latest long-term, big-money deal with McLaren at the start of this year. That’s before he had the chance to test, let alone race, the McLaren-Mercedes MCL36, which has proved to be something of a disappointment. So has Norris made a mistake? Should he have kept his options open for the long-term so he could see how McLaren progressed, and does he regret locking himself into McLaren for the long-term and out of a move to a team like Red Bull? #F1 #LandoNorris #RedBull READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/norris-says-he-rejected-red-bull-what-if-he-hadnt/ 00:00 A midfield F1 star 01:10 Norris and McLaren 03:37 McLaren's struggles 06:39 Did Norris make a mistake? Ferrari’s reliability failures, strategic howlers and the occasional driver errors have made its title defeat in 2022 inevitable for months. So, nothing’s REALLY changed now that Max Verstappen has formally wrapped up the championship, and Red Bull is poised to clinch the constructors’ crown as well. But Ferrari’s not able to immediately commit this wasted season to memory. In an exclusive interview with The Race, Charles Leclerc has made it very clear that the end of the 2022 season could be very important to Ferrari’s hopes of learning its lessons for 2023. #F1 #CharlesLeclerc #Ferrari READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/what-ferrari-learned-from-its-vital-f1-development-inquest/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
Max Verstappen’s path to winning the 2022 Formula 1 World Championship with four races to spare could not have been more different to the journey to his first title. Last year, he prevailed on the very last lap in the most intense title fight in history. But as this season has gone on, his progress has become increasingly serene. Winning this year’s title has been easier for Verstappen than in 2021. How could it not be given last year’s fight between him and Lewis Hamilton was so acrimonious? But it has allowed him to show, for the first time, a trait he shares with all the greats in F1 history. That’s not to say Verstappen hadn’t already shown his brilliance prior to this year, but every championship campaign has a different character that allows a driver to show a different dimension to their skillset. To identify and understand this legendary trait, we need to take a detailed look at how Verstappen has gone about taking what has ultimately proved to be one of the most comfortable championship wins in F1 history. #F1 #MaxVerstappen #RedBull Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
The FIA has officially confirmed that Red Bull overspent and breached Formula 1’s cost cap regulations during Max Verstappen’s first title-winning season in 2021. But the much-anticipated announcement from the governing body contained no details of the exact nature or precise scale of the breach, and said the penalty was still being discussed. Ferrari and Mercedes have made very clear they believe the laptime value of even what’s officially classed as a ‘minor’ breach would be considerable, and have already called for “severe” action long before the official announcement. But Red Bull refuses to back down. Not only does it remain adamant it came in under the cost cap for 2021, it has promised to follow the FIA’s processes to challenge the outcome, and hasn’t ruled out taking further action if necessary. To work out what happens next in this saga, Glenn Freeman is joined by Edd Straw and Ben Anderson to discuss all the details. #F1 #RedBull #F1costcap READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/our-verdict-on-red-bull-f1-overspend-and-wait-for-penalty/
“If I hit it, I would be dead right now”. That was Pierre Gasly’s damning assessment of the potential consequences of the FIA allowing a recovery vehicle to be on track during the Japanese Grand Prix. The AlphaTauri driver was horrified to pass the parked truck while catching up with the safety car pack on the second lap of the race at Suzuka. It was an incident that enraged drivers and fans alike, which perhaps explains why the FIA initially seemed keen to brush this off with a statement that appeared to put the focus on Gasly’s driving. Gasly’s reaction - and that of his fellow drivers, clearly had an impact on the FIA, which has launched a ‘thorough review’ into what happened. #F1 #JapaneseGP #FIA READ OUR VERDICT https://the-race.com/formula-1/f1-looked-farcical-our-verdict-on-controversial-japanese-gp/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
Formula 1’s biggest teams are at war over a bitter dispute that could have massive consequences. The FIA is close to announcing whether teams complied with the first ever budget cap in 2021 - but it has already been widely discussed in the F1 paddock that the governing body has decided two teams have breached it. Red Bull is furious that it has been openly talked about as one of those teams and has threatened to take action against Mercedes and Ferrari for comments made over the Singapore Grand Prix weekend. While it may seem odd to be talking about last year’s finances this late in 2022, that’s because it’s been a complicated and delayed process. And the fallout from this could be absolutely huge. #RedBull #Mercedes #Ferrari READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/ferrari-and-mercedes-minor-cap-breach-can-have-huge-impact/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
Mick Schumacher is fighting to stay in Formula 1 but even if he does it looks like his dream of one day racing for Ferrari is over. Schumacher’s yet to convince Haas he should be kept on for 2023 and in addition to potentially being out of a drive, there is increasing speculation his Ferrari ties will be severed as well. The son of Ferrari legend and seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher is unlikely to follow in his father’s footsteps - and while that may not be a surprise to many of you, it is part of a bigger picture that means Mick’s F1 career could be hanging in the balance. #F1 #MickSchumacher #Ferrari READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/two-reasons-schumachers-ferrari-f1-dream-has-died/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace
