8 world champions who would've been rejected under F1's flawed superlicence rules
8 world champions who would've been rejected under F1's flawed superlicence rules

A superlicence is a driver’s ticket to ride in Formula 1. As Colton Herta recently discovered, even if you have the offer of a race seat, without the right paperwork you cannot compete in F1. Currently, to qualify for an FIA Formula 1 Driver Super Licence – to use its official name – you must accumulate 40 points based on your achievements in three of the past four years. As a look back through Formula 1 history reveals, there are eight world champions who would likely have failed in their bids for a superlicence were the current system in place. #F1 #Formula1 #superlicence Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

The drivers fighting for the remaining 2023 F1 seats
The drivers fighting for the remaining 2023 F1 seats

The 2023 driver market has offered a Formula 1 silly season for the ages - and it’s still not over. Three teams have seats to fill for next season and, surprisingly at this stage of the year, there are quite a few drivers still in play. We see Alpine, AlphaTauri, Haas and Williams as the teams with vacancies. And the list of drivers in play include race winners Pierre Gasly and Daniel Ricciardo, likely Haas refugee Mick Schumacher, out-of-work drivers Antonio Giovinazzi and Nico Hulkenberg and rookies such as Nyck de Vries, Jack Doohan and Logan Sargeant. Clearly, there are a lot of pieces to the jigsaw, which we’ll be working through in this video - so keep watching until the end, to see what we think the final picture’s going to look like. #F1 #F1news #F12023 Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

Every F1 driver from 2010-2019 ranked from worst to best
Every F1 driver from 2010-2019 ranked from worst to best

Who were the best, the worst and the in-between performers among Formula 1 drivers of the 2010s? Well, you’re about to find out thanks to our ranking of every - single - driver who raced in F1 from 2010-2019. This is not a simple ranking of the best to worst based on The Race’s evaluation of their ability, as that would produce a very different order. Instead, it also takes into account their success, longevity, consistency, adaptability, their involvement in epic F1 moments of the decade and countless other factors. It’s also important to note that this ranking considers each driver's achievements exclusively in the 198 F1 races held from 2010 to 2019. Achievements before 2010 or after 2019 – no matter how illustrious – are excluded. A total of 66 drivers raced in F1 during this period, so here’s our ranking in reverse order. #F1 #Formula1 00:00 Intro 01:15 65-61 02:52 60-51 05:17 50-41 07:54 40-31 10:36 30-21 13:27 20-11 16:34 10-1 Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

Why Daniel Ricciardo faces a 2023 F1 move Lewis Hamilton says he's too good for
Why Daniel Ricciardo faces a 2023 F1 move Lewis Hamilton says he's too good for

Three weeks on from McLaren’s bombshell announcement that Daniel Ricciardo will be dropped at the end of the season despite having a contract for 2023, the eight-times grand prix winner is still without a job for next year. But could Ricciardo take a role Lewis Hamilton says he is too good for? That’s a question Ricciardo must ask himself as he considers whether to pursue a path usually taken by those at the start of their Formula 1 career and take a reserve driver role? It’s hard to imagine a driver who has been an F1 star for the past decade being willing to sit on the sidelines and it’s unlikely Ricciardo would see himself doing that. Unless, that is, it’s with a team that might just offer him a pathway back to the front of the F1 grid. So who better than Mercedes, the pre-eminent F1 team of the past decade? #F1 #DanielRicciardo #Mercedes Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

The battle to sign F1's shock star debutant for 2023
The battle to sign F1's shock star debutant for 2023

Hot off the heels of a shock and highly impressive Formula 1 debut in the Italian Grand Prix, Nyck de Vries is suddenly a man in demand. Unsurprisingly, scoring points after a late call-up on Saturday to replace the unwell Alex Albon has reinforced Williams’s interest in signing the Mercedes reserve driver full-time for 2023. But Williams faces competition from Alpine, which has its own seat to fill next year and plans to test de Vries in the coming weeks. These teams were sniffing around de Vries before Monza, so his Italian GP performance isn’t exactly responsible for the rush to sign him. But it has certainly intensified that battle and made a difficult choice for de Vries even tougher. #ItalianGP #Williams #NyckdeVries READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/williams-target-de-vries-faces-2023-choice-as-alpine-plans-test/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

Why Red Bull wants to bring a ‘hooligan’ rookie to F1 in 2023
Why Red Bull wants to bring a ‘hooligan’ rookie to F1 in 2023

The prospect of Red Bull bringing IndyCar race winner Colton Herta into Formula 1 debut makes for one of the most interesting rookie possibilities since Max Verstappen. No F1 debutant is a guaranteed hit but with Herta you can make about as compelling a case that he could be a brilliant rookie as you can that his switch is doomed to fail. Herta has been lined up by Red Bull to replace Alpine-bound Pierre Gasly at AlphaTauri, the latest move in a fascinating and volatile period for F1’s driver market. The American driver represents a bigger gamble than teams normally take, including the Red Bull ones. So what’s the thinking behind it - and is it a sure thing? #F1 #RedBull #ColtonHerta READ MORE HERE: https://the-race.com/formula-1/f1s-superlicence-system-hugely-undervalues-indycar/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

Our verdict on the Red Bull AlphaTauri Dutch GP F1 conspiracy theory
Our verdict on the Red Bull AlphaTauri Dutch GP F1 conspiracy theory

Mercedes found itself in the thick of a fight for victory properly for the first time in 2022 at the Dutch Grand Prix, and almost inevitably that resulted in a Red Bull-related controversy flying around after the race. Mercedes’ gamble on a one-stop strategy at Zandvoort was on course to leave Lewis Hamilton in the lead of the race after Max Verstappen’s second scheduled pitstop. But Verstappen was able to retain the lead thanks to a well-timed virtual safety car period, which was called when Yuki Tsunoda’s AlphaTauri stopped on track for a second time. The confusion around Tsunoda’s problem, and a less-than-convincing explanation from the Japanese driver afterwards, prompted wild theories that Red Bull’s second team had done its big sibling a favour. #F1 #DutchGP #RedBull READ MORE HERE https://the-race.com/formula-1/what-we-know-about-tsunodas-controversial-dutch-gp-exit/ Subscribe: http://the-race.com/youtube_subscribe Website: http://the-race.com/ Twitter: @wearetherace Instagram: @wearetherace Facebook: http://facebook.com/wearetherace Podcasts: http://the-race.com/podcasts Thanks for watching - please like, share and comment, please also hit subscribe to show your support so we'll keep doing what we're doing. https://www.the-race.com http://www.twitter.com/wearetherace

The reasons Alpine is to blame for losing Oscar Piastri to McLaren in F1
The reasons Alpine is to blame for losing Oscar Piastri to McLaren in F1

Oscar Piastri will race for McLaren in Formula 1 next season after the team successfully completed an opportunistic swoop for a driver Alpine thought would be its long-term future. A four-person panel for F1’s Contract Recognitions Board ruled unanimously that the only contract to be recognised for Piastri was the deal he has with McLaren, which covers 2023 and 24. McLaren reacted to the verdict by immediately announcing Piastri as Lando Norris’s team-mate for next year, while a short statement from Alpine thanked the CRB, saying it acknowledged the decision and considered the matter closed. There was also a major revelation in the CRB ruling, as it said the deal between McLaren and Piastri was signed on the fourth of July. That was the Monday after the British Grand Prix, which was much earlier than many believed to be the case.
