Mohammed Shami had replaced injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar in India’s playing XI against Afghanistan in Match 28 of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Afghanistan required 16 to win off the final over which was to be bowled by Shami. After being hit for a boundary off the 1st ball, Shami started firing yorkers and dismissed the well-set Mohammad Nabi, getting him caught at long-on by Hardik Pandya. Over the next two balls, Shami unleashed 2 lethal yorkers which crashed into the stumps of Aftab Alam and Mujeeb ur Rahman respectively to bring a swift end to Afghanistan's pursuit. Mohammed Shami dismissed Mohammad Nabi, Aftab Alam and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman off consecutive balls in the final over as India secured a thrilling win by 11 Runs.
