Allan Houston - 29 Points vs. Bucks (Last Year with Pistons)
Allan Houston - 29 Points vs. Bucks (Last Year with Pistons)

December 20, 1995 - In his final and most complete season with the Detroit Pistons, shooting guard Allan Houston averaged 19.7 points per game and emerged as one of the league's preeminent shooters. On the heels of performances like the one shown above, Houston cashed in during the 1996 offseason, signing a multi-year deal with the New York Knicks. There, Houston was named to two all-star teams and earned a gold medal as a member of the 2000 USA Basketball team. Grant Hill Puts Allan Houston in the Blender (1997)
Grant Hill Puts Allan Houston in the Blender (1997)

December 18, 1996 - Arguably the peak of his run in Detroit, Grant Hill finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists, and 5 steals in a 112-78 win over the New York Knicks, pushing the Pistons to a 19-4. The move shown above is of particular note as it occurred during Allan Houston's contentious homecoming; it was his first trip to the Palace since spurning the Pistons for the New York Knicks the previous offseason. The 1996-97 Pistons remained a half-step behind the defending champion Chicago Bulls until Christmas and pushed their record to 43-14 before turmoil within the organization led to a tailspin down the stretch. Standing tall with the East's second best record for most of the regular season, the Pistons settled for 54 wins and a No. 5 seed, falling in the first round to Dikembe Mutombo and the Atlanta Hawks. This game also stands as the only time in Detroit Pistons history (as of 2020) that the team has worn Ft. Wayne throwback jerseys (commemorating the NBA at 50). Lindsey Hunter Scores 22 Points in First Half vs. Knicks (1996)
Lindsey Hunter Scores 22 Points in First Half vs. Knicks (1996)

December 18, 1996 - Detroit Pistons guard Lindsey Hunter outscored former teammate Allan Houston 28 to 2 in Houston's first return to the Palace of Auburn Hills since spurning the Pistons for the New York Knicks the previous summer. Hunter scored 22 points in the first half alone, finishing 11-of-17 from the field and 4-of-6 from deep in a lopsided 112-78 win. The victory pushed the Pistons to 19-4, neck and neck with the defending NBA champion Chicago Bulls. Detroit's record would swell to 40-13 before a dispute between Otis Thorpe and head coach Doug Collins would initiate a late season tailspin, resulting in a first round exit. This game also marks the only time in Detroit history (as of 2020) the Pistons have worn throwback Ft. Wayne jerseys, commemorating the NBA's 50th anniversary.
