Welcome back guys! Today we’re going to be discussing what Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United means for the club and why his transfer is only good news for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men! ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube Tactically, Cristiano Ronaldo won’t redefine how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sets his Manchester United side up. I expect the 4-2-3-1 to continue and with a fully fit squad, Ronaldo will slot in up front. Simply put, Ronaldo is perfectly suited to Solskjaer’s Manchester United. Whilst his pressing numbers could be higher, Solskjaer hasn’t had a true pressing forward to build his team around. Because of this, Solskjaer has had success using a press that sees turnovers forced in the middle third by midfielders rather than the final third by forwards like you see with the German school of pressing. This less proactive style of pressing means that Ronaldo won’t break the structure and shouldn’t change how United play without the ball. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch But where he’ll really shine is when Manchester United have possession. At 36, Cristiano Ronaldo has adapted his game from being a direct, dribbling winger in his youth to a pure goalscorer. Saying that, he still averaged nearly 3 dribbles per 90 (2.86) during his time in Serie A so don’t expect a complete poacher. But rather than constantly receiving in the wide areas, beating several players before cutting in and scoring, Ronaldo now largely operates in and around the penalty area. That being said, his second goal against Hungary at Euro 2020 showed his evolution and how he’s still capable of scoring fluid goals. But what Ronaldo will really bring is an aerial threat. Ronaldo is almost the perfect striker for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s wing play approach where the majority of United’s chances come from the wide areas. But with Cristiano Ronaldo back in red, United have a genuine target to aim crosses towards, especially crosses to the back post. His technique, height and leap combined with an ability to hang in the air make him almost undefendable from crossing situations. This will see United cross more often but with the option to cross early from deeper positions. This could see a slight tweak in approach, with Luke Shaw continuing to hold the width on the left but Bruno Fernandes to take up more positions in the inside right channel to provide whipped crosses from that flank. Statman Dave Clips ➡ http://bit.ly/StatmanClips Ronaldo’s true worth could be off the field. It’s well documented that Cristiano Ronaldo is the hardest working footballer, if not sportsman. His hard work and dedication to becoming the very best at everything he does is incredible and it’s shaped him into one of the greatest players of all time. Despite winning 32 major honours as well as 5 Ballon D'Or awards, Ronaldo still wants to win more. He’s stated that he expects to win the Premier League in his first season back in the competition and his sheer determination will win matches for Manchester United. Ronaldo is the ultimate big game player who turns up when it matters most. As impressive as his goalscoring record is, with nearly 700 goals at club level, it’s more impressive when you consider that 31% of them have been match winners. Cristiano Ronaldo’s homecoming isn’t a signing made out of romance, there’s genuine benefits to his return. Whilst he might not be a long term addition, his last two seasons have been his best in the past 5 in terms of most goals scored so there’s really no telling how much longer Ronaldo can play at the very top. The only thing for certain is that he’s not a luxury signing but an addition that will return Manchester United to the top. But what do you guys think? Will Ronaldo improve Manchester United? Welcome back guys! Today we will be discussing Paul Pogba & Bruno Fernandes’ influence on Solskjaer’s Man Utd. ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has continued to use the 4-2-3-1 this season and the loss of Marcus Rashford has opened up the left hand side. Many expected new signing Jadon Sancho to fill that slot until Rashford’s return but Paul Pogba has thrown a spanner in the works. Pogba’s link up with Bruno Fernandes has always been very good but it’s never translated that well into goals and assists. Prior to this season, the duo had combined for just four goals but with Pogba being given a more expansive role we’re seeing the Frenchman’s output increase. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch Pogba and Fernandes are arguably United’s best passer and goalscorer, and these roles suit them perfectly. It also helps that the duo are constantly looking to combine with each other. In the 5-1 win over Leeds, Pogba passed to Bruno (six) more times than anyone else whilst Bruno only passed to Wan-Bissaka (five) more often than Pogba (four). When excellent players look to combine you usually see incredible results and this duo were no different. Against Leeds, Pogba created Bruno’s first two goals but the platform for this output was created by Solskjaer’s tactics. ►Statman Dave Clips http://bit.ly/StatmanClips As long as Pogba is playing as a left sided playmaker, I expect Bruno’s goalscoring to continue. Bruno has to vacate the deeper central space for Pogba to be effective and by moving higher he gives the Frenchman another target. Even more promising for United and Fernandes is the introduction of Jadon Sancho on the right hand side. Sancho and Pogba could actually remove the need for Bruno to playmake, but realistically it’ll see United playing with three elite creators. Will we see Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes continue their output together? Welcome back guys! Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign French defender Raphael Varane from Real Madrid. So let’s take a look at how Varane improves Solskjaer’s side. ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube Varane is undoubtedly a world class centre back and his signing is something of a coup for Manchester United. Barcelona and Real Madrid are the pinnacle of football for most players and to leave the Spanish giants at your own personal peak says a lot about what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is building. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch He’s arguably the perfect, experienced partner for Harry Maguire. With a decade of experience playing at the very top level, Varane could help tutor and improve Maguire’s own game, not to mention add valuable experience to a young Manchester United side (25.5 avg age). ► JOIN PATREON: https://bit.ly/StatmanPatreon At Real Madrid, Varane played most of his best games as a cover defender. His agility, recovery pace, reading of the play and tackling ability made him ideal for protecting against the counter attack - defending the wide areas for the advanced full backs and the space directly in behind when Sergio Ramos, acting as a stopper, would step out to engage the opposition. Statman Dave Clips ➡ http://bit.ly/StatmanClips I expect this to continue at Manchester United, with Varane enabling Harry Maguire to be even more aggressive in his stopper duties. This could also see United adopt a higher line out of possession to compress the space the opposition have to play in and allow Maguire to be even more effective, covering less ground before he’s able to make a challenge. A defender of Varane’s quality and pace could also inspire more confidence amongst players who don’t have defensive roles to play expansive passes, knowing that if they don't come off, Varane is well equipped to deal with the counter attack. #ManUtd #MUFC #Varane Do you think Raphael Varane completes Man Utd’s back four? Welcome back guys! The day has arrived, Manchester United have officially signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube Let’s dive into how Sancho will make a difference in Solskjaer’s Man Utd setup. Jadon Sancho has been directly involved in 78 league goals over the last three seasons, the 8th most across Europe’s Top 5 Leagues and the only player 21 or younger in the top 10. Having just turned 21, Sancho has the vast majority of his career ahead of him but he’s already a world class player with room to grow even more. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch We’ve done so many videos on this channel analysing Jadon Sancho’s playing style and a playlist will be linked where you’ll be able to see his year on year evolution since his debut in 2018. In short, Sancho is a dribbling playmaker. His game centres around his acceleration, agility and dribbling ability as well as his vision and eye for a pass. This sees Sancho adopt a pass and move style where he links with teammates, playing one - two’s to get himself into dangerous positions where he can create chances or score himself. ► JOIN PATREON: https://bit.ly/StatmanPatreon Whilst he can score goals, Sancho is a creator first and he’ll bring great balance to Manchester United’s attacking lineup. In fact, since the start of his first full season, only Lionel Messi (43) has registered more assists across Europe’s Top 5 Leagues than Jadon Sancho (41) and the Barcelona legend (102) has played 10 more games in that period. All of United’s first team forwards operate at their best as goalscorers, and even Bruno Fernandes, United’s playmaker in chief, operates in a hybrid role. Sancho’s preference to link with players around him will not only improve those players but United’s tempo as a whole as Sancho will instigate quicker passing moves to create chances. Welcome back guys! Today we’ll be taking a look at three signings Man Utd have to make in the summer transfer window. ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube First we’ll head to Ligue 1 - shopping at the French champions Lille for Dutch centre-half Sven Botman. Despite only turning 21 in January, Botman has the defensive positioning of a much more mature player. When he’s defending he likes to get low to the ground so he can change direction quickly and match the attacker. This also allows him to assert himself on the situation, often showing the forward where Botman wants him to go before stepping in to make a challenge. He’s an extremely composed player in all aspects of the play. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch For our final two signings, we’ll be looking at areas of the pitch Man Utd have needed to address for a very long time - targeting a right winger and defensive midfielder. - [ ] ► JOIN PATREON: https://bit.ly/StatmanPatreon Declan Rice is the obvious target for Man Utd at DM. Captaining West Ham to European football, the England international looks set to take the next step in his career and a move to Manchester United would be very appealing for the young midfielder. McTominay & Fred have done fine jobs for Man Utd in midfield, but Solskjaer’s side have lacked a genuine holder in midfield to replace Nemanja Matic and the 22 year old would be the perfect man for the job. Finally we’re looking at Jadon Sancho as we’ve done so in the past. Whether it’s in the media or between Man Utd fans - Sancho is the first name when discussing transfers for Man United. A deal that should have really happened last summer, it should be a priority for Man Utd this window and the young Borussia Dortmund winger could solve Manchester United’s long term issues at right wing. Although Sancho has largely played on the left this season, he’s more than capable of playing across the front line and build a relationship with Marcus Rashford & Mason Greenwood for years to come Statman Dave Clips ➡ http://bit.ly/StatmanClips Who do you think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Man Utd should sign in the summer? Welcome back guys! Today we’ll be taking a look at how Man Utd close the gap on Pep Guardiola’s Man City. ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube Over the past 18 months, Manchester United have taken huge strides forward. They’ve added a truly world class creator in Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw has massively improved his attacking output and Marcus Rashford has become a consistent and key part of United’s attack, with the forward being directly involved in 40 goals since the start of last season. Despite that, Manchester City and their millions are still ahead of Solskjaer’s men so today we’re going to take a look at how United can close the gap! ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch First let’s take a look at Man Utd becoming more unpredictable in their build up play. At the moment Solskjaer’s Manchester United build in a 3-3-1-3. I think this build up shape is fine but I’d like to see a slight tweak to see more of a 3-5-2 build up with more interchange within the structure itself. The tweaked structure alone would offer an extra option for the outside centre backs when playing out from the back and the shorter, diagonal passes are more difficult to stop. But it’d also offer more flexibility for players to interchange positions. With the current skill set of United’s players, we could see complete interchange between the likes of Bruno, Rashford and Shaw. Obviously, Fernandes could operate from anywhere on the pitch but even Rashford is incredibly versatile and has experience playing all across the line would even make him suited to a central midfield position. ► JOIN PATREON: https://bit.ly/StatmanPatreon Luke Shaw is the interesting one. He’s made huge improvements this season to the point where he’s currently the most complete left back in the Premier League and could even operate in a similar, inverted wing back role like Joao Cancelo has done for Manchester City. What is an Inverted Wing Back? João Cancelo’s Man City Role Under Pep Guardiola Explained 🎥 https://youtu.be/LFw-GH2Uibs Now onto how some new signings could fit into this. Man United could start utilising this new structure with the current setup but to make it really flourish a progressive defensive midfielder should be signed. Ideal candidates include Eduardo Camavinga, Wilfred Ndidi and Declan Rice. All 3 of these have performed destructive, shielding roles out of possession but intelligent and progressive roles in it and whilst they’d be expensive, they could slot in immediately and hold down the role for a number of years. #ManUtd #MUFC #PremierLeague Can Man Utd win the Premier League next season? Hey guys welcome back! Today we’ll be taking a look at Arsenal's latest signing, Martin Odegaard and how he will fit into Mikel Arteta’s side. ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube After an outstanding season on-loan at Real Sociedad in the 19/20 season, Norwegian international Martin Odegaard returned to his parent club Real Madrid. Although many Real Madrid fans expected Odegaard to come straight into the side and have an influence on the team this season - Zinedine Zidane had only handed the 22 year old three La Liga starts. So this loan move could be an opportunity for Odegaard to further prove himself ready to his parent club and also solve some of the issue’s Arsenal have faced going forward in the Premier League under Mikel Arteta this season. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch Now let’s take a look at how Martin Odegaard could fit in at Arsenal. Throughout his career Odegaard has played in two main positions. Either on the right wing where he can look to come inside onto his stronger left foot. Or in a central, attacking midfield position. The latter is where he played the best football of his career so far for Real Sociedad, either in a 4-2-3-1 as a number 10 or a 4-3-3 as a free eight. Odegaard has the perfect skill set for a playmaker. Not only does he have the vision and passing ability to create chances for teammates, but he’s got the technical ability and composure to operate in the tightest of spaces too and he uses these to great effect in the final third. ► JOIN PATREON: https://bit.ly/StatmanPatreon After much success in a 3-4-3, Arteta has moved away from the system and towards a 4-2-3-1.In this shape Odegaard would slot in at number 10. The double pivot would free the Madrid man to receive in more dangerous positions where he can quickly look to create for teammates. Whilst this will likely be how Odegaard starts his Arsenal career, I expect a switch to incorporate two creative midfielders or free eight’s. This is the system that Pep Guardiola had his best success with in England and where Arteta learnt his trade. So it’s logical to assume that Arteta will want to build something similar at the Emirates. It also makes sense from an attacking standpoint. This season Arsenal’s biggest problem has been scoring goals and their 1.2 goals per game this season is the joint 12th best in the Premier League, comparable to the likes of Crystal Palace and Brighton (both 1.2). Welcome back guys! Today we’ll be taking a look at 5 players Man Utd should sign in the January transfer window. Manchester United have had an outstanding start to the season in the Premier League, currently sitting three points ahead of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at the top of the table. But there’s still area’s Solskjaer could do with reinforcement in and the January transfer window could give Man United that extra push towards the Premier League title. First let’s take a look at a midfield option, a player available immediately who could transition into the side by the end of the season is Manuel Locatelli. The former AC Milan youngster has been developing his game at Sassuolo and he’s become one of the best defensive midfielders in Serie A. Operating from the left of a double pivot, Locatelli is the side’s controller and he’s often the deepest of the midfielders. He makes Sassuolo tick with his quick one and two touch play out of the back, always happy to receive even when under pressure and with his back to goal. Moving onto right back, Manchester United only really have Aaron Wan-Bissaka as a first team option and considering he’s been played non-stop since signing for United, with the only outfielder to play more minutes than Wan-Bissaka in that period being Harry Maguire, it’d be good to be able to rotate him or even bring in a player to compete for a starting position. Whilst Max Aarons has been linked recently and is an excellent talent, he’s at a similar age to Wan-Bissaka and they would both develop into the same kind of attacking full back whilst one could halt the development of the other. Signing Aarons could also prevent the likes of Ethan Laird from breaking into the first team in the future. Who I’d like Man United to go for is Mazraoui. The Ajax right back is a very technical footballer and is more of an inverted full back. With experience playing all over the pitch for the Amsterdam club, he’s become a very rounded player. Unlike Aarons, Mazrouai would be a very different full back to Wan-Bissaka. He’s basically a central midfielder in that position with great technical ability and a fantastic passing range. This season Ajax have continued with their 4-2-1-3 under Erik ten Hag and their right hand side has looked the most dangerous with Mazrouai as an inverted wing back playing behind Antony, a left footed right winger. He generally takes up an inverted position which allows Antony ahead of him to play wide and create one v one’s with the opposition full back whilst Mazrouai makes excellent supporting underlaps to either take opponents with him or receive the ball. Moving up the pitch United are always in need of young, talented attackers and Michael Olise is definitely one to watch. The 19 year old is currently the top assister in the Championship this season and would be a shrewd acquisition to add depth to Manchester United’s squad. The Championship has proven to be a breeding ground for very talented players in recent years. The likes of Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Reece James, all who are key components of the current Chelsea squad shone in the Championship on loan. Whilst very talented attackers learnt their craft there, I’m talking about the likes of Maddison, Buendia, Eze and Jack Grealish. And Oli-say looks like the latest to emerge from the competition. He started the season from the right flank but has played all across the line and even in Reading’s double pivot. #ManUtd #MUFC #ManchesterUnited Who do you think Man United should sign in the January transfer window?
