Caf Champions League | Simba SC vs UD Songo 1-1 | Goals & Highlights (25.08.2019). Caf Champions League: UD Songo knock out Simba SC. The Tanzanian giants have been knocked out of the competition after the visiting Mozambican side snatched a vital away goal Simba SC have been knocked out of the Caf Champions League after drawing 1-1 against UD Songo of Mozambique on Sunday. A late penalty by Erasto Nyoni was not enough to keep the Msimbazi Reds in the competition as Songo progressed to the next round on the away goal rule. Luis Misquissone scored UD Songo's goal in the first half. Misquissone found Simba SC's net in the 14th minute and the Tanzanian side could not recover until almost the last minute for Nyoni to score an equalizer which was not enough for them. Head coach Patrick Aussems made a change in the 41st minute as he withdrew Kenyan midfielder Francis Kahata and threw Hassan Dilunga into action. The change did not bring the desired results for the Tanzanian champions. Mirajii Athumani, who replaced Gadiel Michael in the 77th minute, was brought down in the 84th minute for Simba SC to be awarded a penalty which they pulled parity from. Simba SC XI: Aishi Manula, Shomari Kapombe, Gadiel Michael, Erasto Nyoni, Pascal Wawa, Jonas Mkude, Deo Kanda, Sharaf Shiboub, Meddie Kagere, Clatous Chama and Francis Kahata. Subs: Beno Kakolanya, Mohammed Hussein, Dos Santos, Gerson Vieira, Mzamiru Yassin, Hassan Dilunga and Miraj Athumani. Caf Champions League Wrap: In Kenya, a Nicholas Kipkirui brace, strikes from Dickson Ambundo and Boniface Omondi as well as an own goal helped Gor Mahia to a 5-1 win over Aigle Noir. Benjamin Gasongo netted a consolation for the visitors, but it didn’t change the course of the tie given the first-leg a fortnight ago ended goalless. Kano Pillars were knocked out of the continental club competition following a 2-0 defeat by Asante Kotoko. The Ghanaian outfit went in front in the 12th minute through Kelvin Andoh, and it stayed that way till the 81st minute when Emmanuel Gyamfi scored the hosts’ second of the game. The Porcupines progress to the next round at Pillars’ expense after overturning a 3-2 defeat in Kano. In Mauritius, Fosa Juniors progressed to the next round after a 1-1 draw with Pamplemousses SC saw them qualify 2-1 on aggregate, as it ended 1-0 to the side from Madagascar in the first leg. Jean Fabrini Razah opened the scoring for the hosts in the 12th minute, but Santatra Andriamamonjy pegged them back just after the hour mark to carry the visitors through. Mekelle 70 Enderta and Cano Sport Academy played out to a 1-1 draw in their encounter on Sunday afternoon. Amanuel Gebremichael put the hosts in front in the 13th minute, but Benjamin Naone levelled in the 39th minute. It stayed that way, and the Malabo-based club progress 3-2 on aggregate, after winning the first-leg 2-1. In Tanzania, Simba SC and Uniao Desportiva Do Songo had everything to play for following their 0-0 draw two weeks ago. It ended 1-1 after 90 minutes, after goals from Luis Misquissone for Unaio and a late leveller by Erasto Nyoni for Simba, saw the visitors progress on away goals. Elsewhere, two second-half goals for Elect-Sport FC saw them defeat Cercle Mberi Sportif 2-0 on the day, and also on aggregate because the reverse fixture ended goalless. An Isaac Mensah effort in the 37th minute helped Atletico Petroleos de Luanda to a 1-0 win over Matlama at Estadio 11 de Novembro. Given the Angolan club won 2-0 in Lesotho, they progress to the next round 3-0 on aggregate. In Togo, a late Richard Nane goal for ASC Kara saw the Togolese side win Buffles du Borgou 1-0. It ended 1-1 a fortnight ago, so the 2-1 aggregate score means Kara go through. Horoya progressed to the next round 2-1 on aggregate at Stade Malien’s expense following a 1-0 win in Guinea. Dramane Nikiema netted the only goal of the game in the 24th minute to take the pre-match favourites through. Following a scoreless draw between Vita Club and UMS de Loum in the first-leg, there was a lot riding on their rematch in Congo. It took a Zakaria Mumuni goal on the hour mark to seal a 1-0 win for Vita Club, who progress to the next round. Just like the aforementioned encounter, the first-leg between Nouadhibou and Societe Omnisports de l'Armee ended goalless, leaving both sides with everything to play for in the return match. An Abdoulaye Gueye penalty in the 70th minute was enough for the hosts to claim the win, thereby progressing by a slender aggregate victory. Al Nasr and USM Alger picked up 3-1 victories on home soil against AS Tempete Mocaf and AS Sonidep, respectively. Al Nasr had lost the reverse fixture 1-0, so the eventual 3-2 aggregate success sees the Libyans progress to the last 32 of the competition. USM Alger, on the other hand, had picked up a 2-1 win on the road and just had to see off Sonidep to progress. The Algerian outfit did that to record a 5-2 aggregate victory.
Caf Champions League | Township Rollers vs Yanga SC 0-1 | Goals & Highlights (24.08.2019). Caf Champions League: Yanga SC stun Township Rollers to progress. The Tanzanian giants have sailed to the next round of the competition after picking up a crucial away win on Saturday. Yanga SC have advanced to the next round of the Caf Champions League after defeating Township Rollers of Botswana 1-0 on Saturday. A 42nd-minute strike by Juma Balinya was all the East African team needed to down the hard-fighting Rollers in their own backyard and proceed to the next round on a 2-1 aggregate scoreline. Following a 1-1 draw in the first leg, the advantage was with the Botswana side as they needed a barren draw to advance. For Yanga, they had to score to revive any hopes of making it past the preliminary first round. Despite an entertaining first half, neither of the two sides could get a goal, but it was the visitors who were under pressure to get a goal. For the home team, composure and calmness were evident from their display. It all looked perfect for Rollers until the 42nd minute when they conceded a free-kick at the edge of the 18-yard area. Balinya took it and expertly directed the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net to give a few away fans a sigh of relief. Rollers had to get a leveller and force the game into extra time and maybe penalties or risk going out early. In the 57th minute, Motsholetsi almost made it 1-1 with his good run, but indecisiveness cost him at the end. The hosts got a perfect chance in the 63rd minute when they won a penalty. However, a tame Segolame Boy's effort was saved by Metacha Mhata. Moments later, the custodian once again made a fantastic save to deny Galabgwe Moyana from about 12-yards. Yanga will now play the aggregate winner between Zesco United of Zambia, who advanced to the next round after beating Green Mamba 3-0 on aggregate. Moroccan side Raja Casablanca will host Gambian champions Brikama United in the second-leg encounter of the 2019-2020 Confederation of African Football (CAF) champion’s league tomorrow, in Casablanca. The Casablanca club requires only a goalless draw to cruise to the second round of the continent’s elite club competition following their 3-3 draw with Brikama United in the first-leg match played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, a fortnight ago, and the Sateyba boys must snatch a victory to progress to the second round. A CAF Champions League goal frenzy continued Saturday as Etoile Sahel scored seven, Zamalek six and Raja Casablanca and Mamelodi Sundowns four each as they won preliminary ties. Karim Aribi struck four for Etoile of Tunisia as they crushed Hafia of Guinea 7-1 in Mediterranean resort Sousse having trailed 2-1 after the first leg. Mostafa Mohamed and Mahmoud Shikabala bagged a brace each to help Zamalek of Egypt overwhelm Dekedaha of Somalia 6-0 and complete a record-equalling 13-0 overall triumph. Young Africans of Tanzania set the record for a two-leg winning margin at 13 goals in 2009 and Al Ahly, the Cairo neighbours of Zamalek, equalled it Friday by firing nine past Atlabara of South Sudan. Ayoub Nanah netted twice in the second half as Raja coasted to a 4-0 home win over Brikama United of the Gambia after the clubs had shared six goals when they first met two weekends ago. Sundowns scored all their goals before half-time in Pretoria as they walloped AS Otoho of Congo Brazzaville 4-0 to comfortably wipe out a 2-1 first leg deficit. Uruguayan Gaston Sirino scored twice for Sundowns, one of only two South African clubs who have won the elite Confederation of African Football club competition. The other side, Orlando Pirates, bowed out after drawing 1-1 in Soweto with debutants Green Eagles of Zambia, who took a 1-0 lead into the return match. A Happy Jele header off a corner on the hour gave the Buccaneers a second-leg advantage that lasted just one minute before Amit Shamende struck the ball into the corner of the net. Although two-time champions JS Kabylie of Algeria lost 3-2 against Al Merrikh of Sudan in Omdurman, they scraped through on away goals. Late goals from Nabil Saadou and Toufik Addadi rescued the Algerians after Merrikh had established a 3-0 second leg lead. Al Ahly blew Atlabara away 9-0 in the second-leg of their Caf Champions League preliminary round encounter at Cairo International Stadium on Friday evening. The Egyptian champions won the tie 13-0 on aggregate after a 4-0 win in the first meeting between the sides on August 11. A Hussein El-Shahat hat-trick, two apiece from Salah Mohsen and Hamdi Fathi, an Ahmed Fathi strike as well as a late Mustafa Selim own goal saw the hosts romp to a resounding victory. Hussein El-Shahat nets a hattrick as Al Ahly thrash Atlabara 9-0. Hussein El-Shahat scored a hattrick as in Al Ahly’s 9-0 victory against Atlabara in the CAF Champions League. Al Ahly got off to an electrifying fashion, when Salah Mohsen opened the scoring just five minutes into the game. The forward converted Hussein El-Shahat’s accurate ground cross into the back of the net. In the 19th minute, El-Shahat turned from producer to scorer when he found the back of the net after a great team play with Magdy Afsha. Four minutes before the halftime whistle, Mohsen doubled his tally after he was left with a simple tap in into an empty net. In the final moments of the first half, El Shahat went up the flank and sent the ball towards Ahmed Fathi, whose strike nestled into Atlabara’s left corner making it 4-0. The Reds started the second half fiercely, when El-Shahat added his second of the night as he drilled the ball into the bottom corner to extend his side’s lead just one minute after the restart. Hamdy Fathi added Al Ahly’s sixth goal when he received the ball near the edge of the box, and slotted brilliantly past the goalkeeper in the 54th minute. Just seven minutes later El-Shahat completed his hattrick as he found the back of the net from the rebound after the goalkeeper saved Mohsen’s initial shot. Fathi scored the eighth in the 67th minute, when he converted Mahmoud Wahid’s crossed corner kick with a powerful header. Al Ahly sealed their 9-0 victory when Mustafa Salem converted Geraldo’s cross into the back of his own net.

CAF Champions League | Preliminary Round | Return Leg KCCA 2-0 African Stars (Agg: 4-3) Mustafa Kizza and Allan Okello scored two late goals for KCCA as they beat African Stars 2-0 in the return leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round encounter at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo on Friday. Kizza curled home the opener nine minutes to the climax of the end-to-end affair before Okello put the game to bed with a trademark stunning strike at the stroke of full time. Before these two late goals, the visitors carried the advantage and all signs were eminent that they would smile home triumphant. KCCA survived the first threat as early as the third minute when forward Chrispen Mbewe beat goalkeeper Charles Lukwago but his goal-bound effort was blocked by the towering defender Peter Magambo. African Stars’ right back Treasure Kauapirura defended well against Mike Mutyaba as the home team surged forward in the early stages of the game. Striker Sadat Anaku volleyed high a Musa Ramathan cross from the right on 20 minutes. Three minutes later, Anaku broke through following a Gift Ali forward chip that found the teenage striker in the offside position. On the half-hour mark, Mike Mutyaba’s cross from the left wing was also volleyed straight to the goalkeeper Uzuva Vipua Tjimune. Two African Stars players Marcel Papama and Chrispen Mbewe were both booked on 33 minutes for unsporting conduct. KCCA was nearly punished in the 36th minute when Magambo lost possession in the African Stars’ half. A quick counter led by Mbewe was finished over the bar by forward Ambrose Amseb as the opening half remained goal-less. As the second half returned, Herbert Achai had a weak shot towards goal well collected by the shot-stopper. Deon Tjizumaue tested Lukwago in KCCA’s goal with a shot off target on 50 minutes. Two minutes later, left winger Mustafa Kizza had a free-kick narrowly fly over the bar. In the same vein, Amseb’s free-kick was also delivered high and over Lukwago between KCCA’s goalposts. The first change of the game came 10 minutes into the second stanza when Achai paved way for left-footed midfielder Jackson Nunda for the home side. Kizza forced a save from African Stars’ goalkeeper on the hour mark. The second change for KCCA was made on 61 minutes when Gift Ali Abubakar was rested for the fresh legs of midfielder Nicolas Kasozi. At the same time, African Stars also conducted their first change of the game. A largely impressive Deon Tjizumaue was replaced by Kaejarukapo Katijimune. The day’s referee turned down a penalty shout out after a push on Muzamiru Mutyaba inside the goal area with 20 minutes to play. African Stars’ goalkeeper Uzuva Vipua Tjimune was cautioned for time-wasting on 75 minutes. Two minutes later, goalkeeper Lukwago foiled a one against one chance against Kaejarukapo as KCCA survived yet another scary moment. KCCA right back Musa Ramathan limped out and his place was taken by Filbert Obenchan. Kizza lit up the stands with a beautiful curling low free-kick for the opener nine minutes to the climax of the game. African Stars’ Isaak Gustav had a free-kick delivery cleared to safety by Nunda as the visitors pushed numbers.
