Caf Champions League | Mamelodi Sundowns vs Cote d'Or 11-1 | Goals & Highlights (27.09.2019). Ruthless Mamelodi Sundowns storm into Caf Champions League group stages in emphatic style. Mamelodi Sundowns confirmed a place in the Caf Champions League group stages for the fourth consecutive season with a ruthless 11-1 demolition of minnows Cote d’Or at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Friday night. The Brazilians went into this game leading 5-0 from the first leg in Seychelles two weeks ago and they took the aggregate winning margin to an impressive 16-1 which should be among the highest in the competition. Sundowns led 6-0 at half time through Themba Zwane, Gaston Sirino, Thapelo Morena and a well-taken first half hat-trick by Sibusiso Vilakazi. In the second half, Sundowns found the back of the net through Motjeka Madisha and Anele Ngconcga, Zwane, an own goal from Benoit Marie and debutant Mauricio Affonso as they exposed this modest team that clearly does not belong at this level. With the comfort of the first leg lead, Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane gave opportunities to Madisha, Lyle Lakay, Andile Jali, Oupa Manyisa and Sphelele Mkhulise and they did not disappoint. Uruguayan import Affonso made his debut from the bench late in the second half and scored with his first touch. Sundowns took the lead after nine minutes when Zwane finished off a cross from Lakay with a deft back heel and the Brazilians could have increased their lead shortly after the opener but Vilakazi squandered a good opportunity. Sundowns were in control from the beginning and their dominance resulted in Sirino increasing the lead with an easy tap in after 20 minutes as the Cote d’Or defence was caught napping. Vilakazi made up for his earlier miss with two goals in the 22nd and 24th minutes as the Brazilians took their aggregate lead to nine unanswered goals with more than 50 minutes still to be played. Vilakazi registered his hat-trick after 38 minutes when he placed the ball beyond the reach of Cote d’Or goalkeeper Jean-Paul Lesperance and two minutes from the break Morena drilled the sixth of the evening. Three minutes into the second half, Sundowns further increased their lead through defender Madisha when he pounced home after he found himself unmarked in the box. Ngcongca, who replaced injured Mkhulise midway through the first half, joined the party with a goal of his own and Zwane was not finished as he registered his brace with fifteen minutes remaining on the clock. An own goal by Marie added salt to injury after 77 minutes and the visitors got their consolation goal through Kassah Voavy after 78 minutes which received loud cheers from the Sundowns fans. Caf Champions League | Cote d'Or vs Mamelodi Sundowns 0-5 | Goals & Highlights 2019. Five-star Sundowns humble Cote d’Or. South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns showed their superiority with an emphatic 5-0 triumph over Cote d’Or on Saturday afternoon at Stade Linite in the first leg of the Round of 16 clash. The Brazilians as the South Africans are nicknamed broke the deadlock as early as the third minute from Motjeka Madisha’s pinpoint cross which was headed powerfully by Samuel Matsunda past goalie Jean-Paul Lesperance for a 1-0 lead. The visitors bossed this first half as the home team was happy to keep it tight at the back though Sphelel Mkhulise had two decent chances to extend his team’s advantage before the interval. Cote d’Or grew in the match in the second half as Ugandan Tony Kizito went agonizingly close to level the score in the 58th minute. Sundowns though raised their game and went further ahead in the 71st minute from Mabunda’s teasing cross which was headed home by Lyle Lakay to make it 2-0. Three minutes later, the 2016 CAF league champions capitalized on a slip by defender Sergio Barra allowing Mkhulise to bid his time to pick out Lakay who bagged his brace for a 3-0 score. Sundown scored again in the 77th minute from a clever back heel by Mkhulise to Matsunda who rifled the ball into the net for a 4-0 lead as he also netted his brace. Cote d’Or suffered further misery in the 81st minute as they were reduced to ten men after substitute Herve Cesar pulled down Mkhulise who was clear through on goal and was sent off. The Sundowns skipper Wayne Arendse completed the rout in the 87th minute from Oupa Manyisa’s through ball which he thumped past goalie Lesperance for a 5-0 final score. Reactions James Barra (Head Coach, Cote d’Or coach) We were still in the match with twenty minutes remaining but we seemed to lose our concentration and gave away the goals against a very good team that punished our mistakes. Benoit Marie (Captain, Cote d’Or) We played against a very top class opponent which forced us to defend but we kept the match tight until we made some individual errors which cost us dearly. Pitso Mosimane (Head Coach, Mamelodi Sundowns) It is always nice to win with a big score but our opponent resisted our pressure in the first half. They came at us in the second half and we managed to penetrate their defence as the match opened up. Wayne Arendse (Midfielder, Mamelodi Sundowns) We came here for this match not knowing much about our opponent so we decided to keep the ball and got them to chase the ball before we broke through to score. We did not concede which is therefore a good away result. Caf Champions League Cote d'Or vs Mamelodi Sundowns (0-5)
Caf Confederation Cup | Azam vs Triangle United 0-1 | Goals & Highlights 2019. Newcomers Triangle shock Azam in Dar es Salaam . Ralph Kawondera struck the only goal of the match as Zimbabwe’s Triangle United hit home side Azam 1-0 at the Chamazi Complex in Dar es Salaam, on Sunday to put themselves firmly in an advantage to qualify for the next round of the Total CAF Confederation Cup. Kawondera scored the lone goal against the run of play, making the most of some defensive lapse to silence a blunt Azam side and hand them their first ever loss at their Chamazi Complex in a CAF competition. Just before the goal, Triangle had come close when Praise Tonha's freekick was parried away by the Azam keeper. The hosts struggled to create anything infront of goal for most of the match despite boasting of massive home support at their Chamazi base. Obrey Chirwa and Richard Djodi had chances to score, but none could hit the target in the opening half. Later in the second half, Idd Nado also tried his luck with a shot from distance, but flew wide. The loss now means Azam have to travel to Zimbabwe and win the game by a margin of more than two goals to overturn the result and progress to the second round. The Leone Stars trailed 3-1 after the first leg in Paynesville, and gave themselves hope of a comeback when Kei Kamara reduced the deficit in the second half in Freetown. The hosts got the game's only goal through Kei Kamara on 56 minutes, but the result did little to damage Liberia's chances thanks to the 3-1 first-leg win. A last-gasp penalty save by teenage goalkeeper Ashley Williams ensured Liberia, coached by Englishman Peter Butler, advanced 3-2 on aggregate over neighbours Sierra Leone, despite losing 1-0 in Freetown. Sierra Leone reduced the aggregate deficit through Kei Kamara after 55 minutes of Sunday's second leg and would have won the tie on the away goal rule if they had scored the penalty in stoppage time at the end of the match. But captain Umaru Bangura's kick was easily stopped by 18-year-old Williams to ensure Liberia's progress. Despite their efforts, the hosts failed to add the second goal they required to progress at the Lone Stars’ expense, with 18-year-old Ashley Williams saving a stoppage-time penalty from Umaru Bangura to see Liberia through to the next round.
