Caf Champions League | KCCA FC vs African Stars 2-0 | Goals & Highlights (23.08.2019). CAF Champions League: KCCA FC eject Namibia’s African Stars FC. CAF Champions League | Preliminary Round | Return Leg KCCA 2-0 African Stars (Agg: 4-3) Mustafa Kizza and Allan Okello scored two late goals for KCCA as they beat African Stars 2-0 in the return leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round encounter at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo on Friday. Kizza curled home the opener nine minutes to the climax of the end-to-end affair before Okello put the game to bed with a trademark stunning strike at the stroke of full time. Before these two late goals, the visitors carried the advantage and all signs were eminent that they would smile home triumphant. KCCA survived the first threat as early as the third minute when forward Chrispen Mbewe beat goalkeeper Charles Lukwago but his goal-bound effort was blocked by the towering defender Peter Magambo. African Stars’ right back Treasure Kauapirura defended well against Mike Mutyaba as the home team surged forward in the early stages of the game. Striker Sadat Anaku volleyed high a Musa Ramathan cross from the right on 20 minutes. Three minutes later, Anaku broke through following a Gift Ali forward chip that found the teenage striker in the offside position. On the half-hour mark, Mike Mutyaba’s cross from the left wing was also volleyed straight to the goalkeeper Uzuva Vipua Tjimune. Two African Stars players Marcel Papama and Chrispen Mbewe were both booked on 33 minutes for unsporting conduct. KCCA was nearly punished in the 36th minute when Magambo lost possession in the African Stars’ half. A quick counter led by Mbewe was finished over the bar by forward Ambrose Amseb as the opening half remained goal-less. As the second half returned, Herbert Achai had a weak shot towards goal well collected by the shot-stopper. Deon Tjizumaue tested Lukwago in KCCA’s goal with a shot off target on 50 minutes. Two minutes later, left winger Mustafa Kizza had a free-kick narrowly fly over the bar. In the same vein, Amseb’s free-kick was also delivered high and over Lukwago between KCCA’s goalposts. The first change of the game came 10 minutes into the second stanza when Achai paved way for left-footed midfielder Jackson Nunda for the home side. Kizza forced a save from African Stars’ goalkeeper on the hour mark. The second change for KCCA was made on 61 minutes when Gift Ali Abubakar was rested for the fresh legs of midfielder Nicolas Kasozi. At the same time, African Stars also conducted their first change of the game. A largely impressive Deon Tjizumaue was replaced by Kaejarukapo Katijimune. The day’s referee turned down a penalty shout out after a push on Muzamiru Mutyaba inside the goal area with 20 minutes to play. African Stars’ goalkeeper Uzuva Vipua Tjimune was cautioned for time-wasting on 75 minutes. Two minutes later, goalkeeper Lukwago foiled a one against one chance against Kaejarukapo as KCCA survived yet another scary moment. KCCA right back Musa Ramathan limped out and his place was taken by Filbert Obenchan. Kizza lit up the stands with a beautiful curling low free-kick for the opener nine minutes to the climax of the game. African Stars’ Isaak Gustav had a free-kick delivery cleared to safety by Nunda as the visitors pushed numbers. Okello buried the game with his trademark stunning shot past the goalkeeper for the winner well celebrated at the stroke of full time. Young Africans (YANGA) Vs Pyramids 1-2 | Caf Confederation Cup | Goals & Highlights (27.10.2019). Pyramids beat Young Africans in play-off round’s first leg. Egyptian Premier League outfit Pyramids FC have defeated Young Africans SC 2-1 in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup’s play-off round. Pyramids’ first real chance of the game came in the 37th minute when Mohamed Farouk’s effort was cleared off the line by Young African defenders. Five minutes later, Farouk was on the scene again when he produced a fine cross for Dodo El-Gabbas, who laid it off for Erik Traore as the Burkinabé struck the ball into the back of the net to score the opening goal for his side. In the 57th minute, Farouk dribbled his way into the Young Africans’ box as the Tanzanian side thought the ball had gone out of play for a throw-in. However, the 30-year-old continued his run and squared the ball to a free Abdullah El-Said who doubled Pyramids’ lead. The hosts managed to reduce the deficit a minute before full-time when Papy Kabamba Tshishimbi scored to make it 2-1. Pyramids will face Young Africans again next week when they host the Tanzanian side in the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup’s play-off round. Kick-off takes place at 20:00 CLT. Horoya Athletic Club vs Bandari FC 4-2 | Caf Confederation Cup | Goals & Highlights (27.10.2019). Aristide Bance stars for Horoya in Confederation Cup play-offs. Veteran Burkina Faso striker Aristide Bance grabbed a hat-trick for Guinea's Horoya in the first leg of a Confederation Cup play-off. The 35-year-old's goals came in Horoya's 4-2 win over visiting Bandari of Kenya. Horoya were ahead within a minute of the kick-off and scored a second goal before Bandari fought back to be level at 2-2 by half-time. Bance, whose nomadic career includes spells with 22 clubs in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, netted twice during the second half for the multi-national Guinean team. Horoya are bankrolled by Antonio Souare, a businessman who has pumped millions of dollars into the club in pursuit of African glory. They reached the African Champions League quarter-finals in the past two editions, but were knocked out of the latest tournament in the final qualifying round for the group phase. This triggered demotion to the second-tier Confederation Cup as they seek a second continental title after winning the 1978 Cup Winners Cup. Tembo's hat-trick for Zanaco in Malabo over Cano Sport Academy was interrupted by a floodlight failure which temporarily halted play during the second half. He scored either side of half-time to give the Lusaka outfit a two-goal advantage and he completed the scoring 11 minutes from time after Jose Fidel Sipi had halved the deficit. Nigerian contenders had mixed fortunes with Enyimba overcoming South African second division side TS Galaxy 2-0 in Aba while Enugu Rangers fell 2-1 away to ASC Kara of Togo in Lome. Twice African champions Enyimba ended a four-match winning continental streak by Galaxy thanks to goals from Victor Mbaoma on seven minutes and Martins Usule after an hour. Galaxy, who qualified by stunning Kaizer Chiefs in the domestic cup final, impressed with an adventurous approach and had a first-half goal disallowed for offside. A stoppage-time goal from Richard Nene brought Kara victory over Enugu, whose lone continental triumph came 42 years ago in the now defunct African Cup Winners Cup. Kenyan club Gor Mahia were held 1-1 in Nairobi by DC Motema Pembe of the DR Congo after a dramatic clash of two other former Cup Winners Cup trophy-holders. Gor took a second-half lead that lasted just eight minutes, goalkeeper David Mapigano saved a penalty, and they finished with 10 men because Charles Momanyi was red-carded. Big-spending Egyptian side Pyramids built a 2-1 lead away to Young Africans of Tanzania in lakeside city Mwanza through goals from Burkinabe Eric Traore and Abdallah el Said. Fosa Juniors of Madagascar upset 2018/2019 Confederation Cup runners-up Renaissance Berkane of Morocco 2-0 in the Indian Ocean island with the second goal coming from a stoppage-time penalty. The second legs are scheduled for November 1-3 with the aggregate winners advancing to a November 10 group draw in Cairo. Gor Mahia vs Motema Pembe 1-1 | Caf Confederation Cup | Goals & Highlights (27.10.2019). Ten-man Gor Mahia were held to a 1-1 draw by Congolese side DC Motema Pembe in the first leg of the Total CAF Confederation Cup play-off round at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on Sunday evening. The home side will have their goalkeeper David Mapigano to thank after he saved a second half penalty that would have seen them lose 2-1 on home soil and see their campaign thrown in tatters. “I think the scoreline is not a fair reflection of the match because we had good chances to score. I am gutted for the players because they worked so hard and should have had a better result from this game. We had three or four good situations that we should have utilized,” Gor’s tactician Steve Polack said. His opposite number Isaac Ngata said; “We gifted them a goal after some poor defending and lack of concentration but I love how we responded. At least now we know how they play and we know what to do to win when we go back home.” Gor Mahia Defender Charles Momanyi was shown a straight red card after handling a goal bound effort on the line. Motema Pembe forward Vinny Bangonga Kombe stepped up for the spot kick but saw his effort well saved by a fully stretched Mapigano. With the scores at 1-1, Motema Pembe had broken away on the counter with Misoko Amale swinging in a beauty of a cross from the right finding Junior Mbele unmarked. The forward’s first header was well saved by Mapigano with the rebound being cleared off the line by Momanyi’s hand. William Likuta Luezi had drawn Motema Pembe level, cancelling out substitute Gnamin Yikpe’s early second half goal. Luezi reacted quickest to a rebound after Mapigano had done well to save a Junior Kone Abou freekick from range. Gor had broken the deadlock in the 63rd minute when Ivorian Yikpe who had spent barely five minutes in the pitch poked Kenneth Muguna’s pass over the advancing keeper for his first goal in the competition. Earlier in the opening half, the visitors had good chances to score. Herritier Ngouelou had two chances, his first effort from the left going over while his second after cutting in was saved beautifully by Mapigano. A minute later, Mukoro Amale had a rasping shot come off the bar. Two minutes to the break Gor had a golden chance when both Boniface Omondi and Nicholas Kipkurui failed to convert a cross from Dickson Ambundo with a gaping goalmouth. It was a more balanced affair in the second half. Just after they had equalized, Motema Pembe came close when Likuta rounded the keeper who had come off his line but his shot was cleared off the line by Geoffrey Ochieng. Caf Confederation Cup Play-Offs: South Africa’s Bidvest Wits and Egyptian debutants Pyramids FC earned precious identical 2-1 away victories in the first leg ties of their Total CAF Confederation Cup play-off round matches in Maputo and Mwanza respectively. In Maputo, homers UD Songo had fought from a goal down to draw level, but they could not stop the fighting spirit of the Clever Boys who scored a 60th minute winner through Sameehg Doutie. The South African outfit had gone ahead through Deon Hotto, but Songo fought back to draw level through Stelio Telinho Ernesto in the 34th minute. The two head into the return leg in Johannesburg next weekend with Bidvest only requiring a draw to book a slot in the group stages of the Confederation Cup. Fosa Juniors vs RS Berkane 2-0 | Caf Confederation Cup | Highlights & Goals (28.10.2019). Malagasy champions Fosa Juniors earned themselves a massive advantage for a first ever appearance at the group stages of continental football after beating last year’s finalists RS Berkane of Morocco 2-0 in the first leg of the Total CAF Confederation Cup play-off round in Antananarivo on Sunday. The Malagasy side which was eliminated at the same stage in the 2018 season will now need to travel to Berkane, with a healthy two-gal advantage in their quest for a ticket at the last 16. Playing at home, they were completely in charge of proceedings and broke the deadlock in the 10th minute through Jean Yves Razafindrakoto. Pushed on by the sea of orange in the stands, Fosa kept their control intact for a 1-0 lead they took through to half time. In the second half, Berkane came back better, seeking a consecutive appearance in the group stages. With a quarter of an hour into the second half, they had a chance to get themselves back into the game with a priceless away goal, but they will only have themselves to blame after missing a penalty on the hour mark. They were made to pay in the second minute of added time when Romario Baggio Rakotoarisoa converted from the penalty spot to give the home side a comfortable 2-0 cushion heading into the return leg in Berkane next weekend. The two head into the return leg in Johannesburg next weekend with Bidvest only requiring a draw to book a slot in the group stages of the Confederation Cup. At the CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza, Tanzania, home side Young Africans (Yanga) are staring at elimination after suffering a loss of a similar score-line at the hands of Pyramids coached by former Uganda Cranes coach Sebastien Desabre. The visitors got into the lead three minutes from the break through Eric Traore before they doubled their tally 18 minutes into the second half through Abdallah el Said. With a comfortable 2-0 cushion, Pyramids were in cool control of proceedings. However, the home side drew one back two minutes from time through Congolese forward Papy Tshishimbi. Yanga’s day turned from bad to worse as defender Kelvin Yondani was sent off for a second bookable offense and will miss the return tie at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo next weekend. Caf Champions League | Al Ahly vs Cano Sport 4-0 | Goals & Highlights (28.09.2019). Al Ahly thrash Cano Sport, qualify for CL group-stages, Egyptian champions Al Ahly have reached the group-stages of the 2019/20 CAF Champions League after beating Cano Sport 6-0 on aggregate. The Reds had won 2-0 in Equatorial Guinea, thanks to strikes from Salah Mohsen and Walid Soliman, before hosting Cano Sport at Borg El-Arab on Saturday. A draw would have been enough for Al Ahly to advance in the competition, but they did more than that by winning 4-0. It didn’t take the hosts long to open the scoreline as after eight minutes only, Aliou Dieng managed to score his first goal for Al Ahly on his first-ever start for the club after a scramble inside the box. Al Ahly settled for the 1-0 lead at half-time, before adding another one just three minutes after the restart through Junior Ajayi. The Nigerian pounced on Mahmoud Wahid’s inch-perfect cross to double Al Ahly’s lead with a header. In the 54th minute, Hussein El-Shahat took his tally to four goals in this year’s CAF Champions League when he received a low cross from Ahmed Fathi, before smartly finding the net. Substitute Salah Mohsen nearly added the fourth when he went through on goal and dribbled past the goalkeeper, but his shot hit the post. However, two minutes before the full-time whistle, Mohsen managed to add his name on the scoresheet after tapping in El-Shahat’s pass inside the six-yard box. Cano Sport’s first dangerous chance of the game came in the 91st minute when Benjamín Ndoho found himself through on goal, but his shot hit El-Shennawy’s bar. The victory means that Al Ahly have reached the CAF Champions League group-stages for the 17th time in their history, more times than any other club. The Reds join Espérance de Tunis, Mamelodi Sundowns, ZESCO United, FC Platinum, Petro de Luanda, and Raja Casablanca as the only teams that have reached the group-stages so far. Caf Champions League | Raja Casablanca vs Al nasr 1-1 | Goals & Highlights (28.09.2019). Raja back to the group stage despite Nasr stalemate. Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca returned to the Total CAF Champions League group stage after 8 years of absence, despite being held to a home 1-1 draw by Libyan champions Al Nasr at Mohamed V complex in Casablanca on Saturday night. Raja qualified winning 4-2 on aggregate, benefiting from their first leg away 3-1 victory a fortnight ago in Cairo. The Green Eagles needed just eight minutes to break the deadlock through veteran skipper Mohsen Mitwally to go 4-1 ahead on aggregate. But the visitors threw everything in attack, and grabbed a deserved equalizer when Junior Figongang scored after 23 minutes. The Libyans missed a golden opportunity to take the lead on the night three minutes after the half hour mark. From the spot Muataz Husain found Raja goalkeeper Anas Zniti too tall to beat, as both sides went to the break in a stalemate. The second half was not a different story as both sides tried to score the winner without having enough chances, as the game ended with Raja returning to the group stage for the first time since 2011. After eight years absence from the CAF Champions League group stages, Morocco giants Raja Casablanca are back. The Green Eagles drew 1-1 with Libya’s Al Nasr at the Mohamed V Complex in Casablanca on Saturday night to qualify 4-2 on aggregate. The Green Eagles had won the first leg 3-1 and all they needed was avoid defeat which they did to return to the most lucrative club competition on the continent. Caf Champions League | Zesco United vs Yanga 2-1 | Goals & Highlights (28.09.2019). Zesco sweat past Yanga into group stage. Zesco United on Saturday produced a workmanlike performance at home to qualify to the group stage of the Total CAF Champions League following a 2-1 final leg home win over ten-man Young Africans of Tanzania at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. An own-goal and late send-off characterized a tense match in Zambia to see Zesco advance 3-2 on aggregate after drawing 1-1 away in the first leg in Dar-es- Salaam on September 14. “As anticipated, it was not an easy game they are good travellers and that is what they exhibited in the game today but it is good that we managed to win of course with a lot of hard work,” Zesco coach George Lwandamina said. Zesco took the lead out of the blues in the 24th when striker Jesse Were squeezed between two defenders when he headed-in a chip from Wiston Kalengo after a period neither side looked likely to score. But it took just six minutes for Young Africans to equalize after Zesco goalkeeper Jacob Banda parried the ball into Sadney Urikhob's path who was lurking unmarked on the far post to blast in the ball on the rebound. The second half was all Zesco's with Kalengo's 51st minute bicycle kick parried by Yanga goalkeeper Borniphace Mnata and seven minute later the veteran striker hoofed assist from Were high and over. Salvation for Zesco came in the 78th minute when Abdul Aziz Makame turned Quadri Kola's cross on into his own net that squeezed between him and the near post to drain the visitors energy. Ten minutes later, Yanga’s woes continued when defender Lamine Moro received his second yellow of the match after a foul on Kalengo after he was initially yellow carded in the 38th minute. Yanga are relegated to the TOTAL CAF Confederation Cup where they have a second chance in next month’s pre-group stage. “We cannot force things, we have failed our objective we have to go back strategize on the league and the Confederations Cup,” Young Africans assistant coach Noel Mwandila said Zesco on the other hand, head into an unprecedented sixth successive continental league round campaign for a Zambian club. This will be Zesco’s fourth group stage appearance in the CAF Champions League in total.
Caf Champions League | ES Tunis (Esperance) vs Elect Sport 2-1 | Goals & Highlights (28.09.2019). Holders Esperance survive Elect Sport scare to progress. Algerian forward Raouf Benguit scored with seven minutes left as holders Esperance came from a goal down to beat Chadian champions Elect Sport 2-1 on the night in Rades and 3-2 on aggregate to progress to the group stages of the Total CAF Champions League. The Tunisian giants who have won back to back CAF Champions League titles were staring at an early exit after the Chad Electricity Company sponsored outfit went ahead through Hassan Ibrahim who slotted home seven minutes before the break. The goal saw the scores go 2-1 on aggregate following the first leg in N’Djamena which ended 1-1. However, Esperance came back a stronger side in the second half. Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane had a sweetly taken volley go inches over in the 56th minute as the home side sought an equalizer. They were rewarded in the 62nd minute when Ibrahima Ouattara swung in a brilliant header unmarked inside the box after being picked out by a pin point Sameh Derbali cross from the right. Derbali had a go at goal himself four minutes later but his shot on the weaker left foot went straight to the keeper’s arms. Esperance kept pushing and came close in the 76th minute off a swiftly executed counter, Benguit releasing Taha Khenissi who had just come on, but his shot was saved for a corner by the keeper. They finally got the much needed nerve calming goal in the 83rd minute when Benguit tapped home off the second bite of the cherry after his initial shot off an Anice Badri assist had come off an Elect Sport defender. Reactions: Moine Chaabani (Head coach, Esperance de Tunis) We conceded a goal from a counter attack and that put us in a difficult situation. We are mentally solid. It wasn’t easy going into the second half when you’re down 1-0. We were in a race against time and we managed it well. It was a good experience for our new players to get a feel of what it’s like in the CAF Champions League - the pressure and race against the clock. Sameh Derbali (Defender, Esperance de Tunis) We avoided a loss today. This is football, there are times when you have close calls. I am happy that we were in the right mindset in the second half and were able to dominate the game. Caf Champions League Esperance de Tunis vs Elect Sport (2-1) 28th.09.2019
