Popovich Kawhi Leonard has partial tear in left shoulder. PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich says forward Kawhi Leonard has a partial tear in his left shoulder. Popovich revealed the injury Sunday before San Antonio's game against the Trail Blazers. It was not immediately known how serious or extensive the tear is. Leonard sustained the injury during the Spurs' 103-89 win Friday over the Phoenix Suns. "It's too bad because he was starting to get back into form a little bit after playing a couple of games," Popovich told reporters gathered.
Porter, Stith held Old Dominion edge North Texas 63-60. DENTON, Texas (AP) — Trey Porter scored a career-high 23 points and B.J. Stith made all 10 of his free throws, the last two with three seconds left, and Old Dominion held off North Texas 63-60 on Saturday night for the Monarchs' eighth-straight win. Porter, who had a career-high 19 points in a win at Rice on Thursday, also grabbed 11 rebounds for his first double-double. He made a layup with 37 seconds left to put Old Dominion up 61-58 but with 14 seconds remaining Ryan Woolridge made it a one-point game with a pair of free throws. Both teams turned the ball over before Stith went to the line. The Mean Green never got off a final shot. Stith and Randy Haynes had 12 points apiece for the Monarchs (12-3, 3-0 Conference USA), who led 38-30 at the half.
Northeastern hits 14 3s, beats James Madison 80-67. BOSTON (AP) — Shawn Occeus made four 3-pointers and scored 18 points to help Northeastern beat James Madison 80-67 on Sunday. Maxime Boursiquot added 13 points, Vasa Pusica 12 and Tomas Murphy 10 for Northeastern (10-6, 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association). Boursiquot, Pusica and Donnell Gresham Jr. each had three 3s as the Huskies made a season-high 14 of 30 from distance. Pusica contributed a career-high nine assists as Northeastern had 24 helpers on 29 field goals. Darius Banks scored 16 points for James Madison (4-13, 0-4). Matt Lewis added 14, and Develle Phillips and Stuckey Mosley had 11 each. The Dukes trailed by 21 points with 14:03 remaining in the game but went on a 15-5 spurt with seven points from Lewis and six by Antanee Pinkard. Then Pusica hit a 3 and Bolden Brace's first dunk of the season made it 69-53. The Huskies led by as least 12 the rest of the way.
Jackson State beats Alabama State 82-73 in SWAC opener. JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Jeremiah Jefferson scored 21 points, Paris Collins had 16 points, 12 rebounds and five assists for his second double-double of the season, and Jackson State beat Alabama State 82-73 on Monday night in a Southwestern Athletic Conference opener. Jefferson and Collins each made three of Jackson State's 11 3-pointers. Jefferson was 9 of 14 from the floor for his third 20-plus game of the season and Collins made 4 of 12 as the Tigers shot 46 percent overall. Julian Daughtry also scored 16 points for Jackson State (4-10), which had lost six of its last seven games. Treshawn Bolden added 12 points. Freshman Jacoby Ross scored 18 points on 5-of-13 shooting for Alabama State (0-13), which played its 10th road game. Ed Jones and Reginald Gee each added 12 points. Murphy, McBrayer lead Minnesota past Harvard 65-55. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Jordan Murphy scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, posting his national-best 15th double-double to pace Minnesota during a grind-it-out 65-55 victory over Harvard on Saturday. Dupree McBrayer returned from a two-game absence to a lower left leg injury with a team-leading 15 points on 3-for-6 shooting from 3-point range, a big boost for the Gophers backcourt with senior point guard Nate Mason sitting out to protect a sprained left ankle. Freshman Isaiah Washington started in Mason's place and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to help soften the blow of a 4-for-17 shooting performance from the field. Corey Johnson led the Crimson with 12 points, going 4 for 10 from 3-point range. The rest of his teammates were 3 for 22 behind the arc.
Elmore scores 32, Marshall beats Louisiana Tech 78-65. HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Jon Elmore had 32 points, nine rebounds and five assists and Marshall beat Louisiana Tech 78-65 on Saturday night. The Thundering Herd (11-4, 2-0 Conference USA) led for the final 22 minutes but had trouble pulling away until a 16-1 run made it 70-51 with 3:06 to play. The Bulldogs (9-6, 0-2) got no closer than 11 the rest of the way. C.J. Burks added 23 points and Jarrod West scored 12 for Marshall, which won its third in a row and seventh in the last eight. Elmore had his third 30-point game of the season and the seventh of his career.
No. 20 Gonzaga scores 1st 15 points, tops Santa Clara 101-52. SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Silas Melson scored 19 points, Josh Perkins had 12 points and eight assists, and No. 20 Gonzaga cruised by Santa Clara 101-52 on Saturday night for its 16th straight victory in the series. Gonzaga scored the first 15 points and was never threatened. Perkins made Gonzaga's first shot for a 3-0 lead and he hit another 3 from the corner on the Bulldogs' next possession. Johnathan Williams added a dunk and Zach Norvell Jr. had a putback and two free throws as the Bulldogs scored on their first five possessions. Norvell finished with 14 points, Rice transfer Jeremy Jones scored a career-high 11, Rui Hachimura had 11 and Corey Kispert and Jacob Larsen each added 10 for Gonzaga (12-3, 2-0 West Coast Conference). The Bulldogs had a season-high 28 assists on 36 field goals. It was the largest margin of victory over Santa Clara in 90 meetings, topping 43 points in 2013.

(AP) — Thatch Unruh scored 20 points, Jordan Howard added 18 and Central Arkansas opened Southland Conference play with an 81-69 win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Thursday. The Bears (7-7) never trailed after Howard scored all the points in a 7-0 run for a 24-18 lead. Central Arkansas scored 10 straight in the first half and took a 41-21 lead at the break. The The Islanders (4-8) got within five early in the second half but a 12-3 run had the lead at 61-47 with 11:29 to play and it stayed in double figures the rest of the way. Mathieu Kamba added 13 points and Hayden Koval, a 7-foot freshman, had seven blocked shots for the second time this season for Central Arkansas. Howard also had five assists, five steals and five rebounds.
