Hannover apologizes after Mainz players racially a.bused. BERLIN (AP) — Hannover president Martin Kind has apologized for the racial abuse Mainz players Leon Balogun and Anthony Ujah were subjected to before the teams' Bundesliga game on Saturday. Balogun says on Twitter: "Ujah and I were racially insulted with ape noises among other things as we warmed up in front of the Hannover fan block. I'm shocked that such behavior exists in 2018 in the Bundesliga, where players of differing backgrounds, skin colors and religions fight daily for their fans." The 29-year-old defender adds, "We give everything for the fans every week, but some of you don't even give us respect. There shouldn't be any room for any racism in any stand in the world!" Club president Kind says, "I reject such behavior 200 percent. Such thoughts have no place at Hannover. We apologize in every form to Mainz and the two players."

Dukes rout of Wake Forest without Coach K spotlights Grayson Allens unsung hero role

Dukes rout of Wake Forest without Coach K spotlights Grayson Allens unsung hero role. The 2016-17 version of Grayson Allen could've used some advice in maturity from the 2017-18 version of Grayson Allen.  In the midst of a horrid shooting slump in his senior season — Allen is 7-for-35 from three-point land in Duke's first five ACC games — the senior captain is finding ways to help his team win ball games without scoring the basketball.  It'd be easy to neglect Allen's two-point, no-field goal performance in Duke's 89-71 win over Wake Forest on Saturday, especially when freshman superstar Marvin Bagley III finished with 30 points and 11 rebounds. But look a bit closer to see Allen's 12-rebound, eight-assist stat line and it's a telling sign of a senior leader doing what it takes to win. Perhaps more telling is the contrast from last year to now in how a Duke team without coach Mike Krzyzewski (he missed several games last year for hip surgery and missed Saturday with a virus) looks thanks to strong leadership — something that was definitely missing last season.  Allen has admitted that his newfound leadership role this year is far from natural, and it's not exactly easy to lead by example when you're bricking shots (as opposed to his offensive outburst in Duke's season-opening win against Michigan State).

Celtics overcome 22-point deficit to beat 76ers in London. LONDON (AP) — Ten seasons ago, the Boston Celtics came to London and won. They went on to win the NBA title. As they repeated the first half of that feat with a comeback victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday night, the Eastern Conference-leading Celtics provided more evidence that they can emulate that 2008 squad. Kyrie Irving had 20 points, seven assists and six rebounds and Boston overcame a 22-point deficit to beat the 76ers 114-103 in the eighth regular season NBA game played in England. "It's always great to believe in fate," Irving said. "But for us we have to be dogged in every moment we're afforded. It's great for that to happen for that past team but it's the past. We have to be very present. Winning an NBA championship is one of the hardest things you can do in life."

(AP) — Tookie Brown scored 22 points, Ike Smith added 19, and Georgia Southern beat Coastal Carolina 77-66 on Thursday night to win its third straight. The Chanticleers took a 10-8 lead on Ajay Sanders' jumper amid an 8-0 run, but Ike Smith's 3 put the Eagles back on top, 15-14, and Georgia Southern never trailed again. Brown's free throws and 3-pointer sparked an 11-4 run and the Eagles led 37-26 at halftime behind Smith's 13 points.

After Davis i.njury, Cousins lifts Pelicans past Pistons. NEW ORLEANS (AP) — DeMarcus Cousins scored 16 of his 20 points after Anthony Davis left with an ankle injury in the third quarter, and the New Orleans Pelicans held off the Detroit Pistons 112-109 on Monday night. Rajon Rondo capped a 12-point, 15-assist performance with two transition layups in the last 1:21 to help secure a victory the Pelicans needed to restore morale after a listless blowout loss in Minnesota over the weekend. Davis dominated before he left with 4:41 remaining in the third, scoring 30 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in 27 minutes. He walked to the locker room, favoring his right ankle, and never returned. Cousins, who also had 10 rebounds, picked up the slack, and E'Twaun Moore finished with 23 points.
