Houston upsets No 4 Wichita State for second loss in a row
Houston upsets No 4 Wichita State for second loss in a row

Houston upsets No. 4 Wichita State for second loss in a row. Houston handed No. 4 Wichita State another upset loss on Saturday, pulling away from the reeling Shockers for a 73-59 victory that suddenly makes the American Athletic Conference much more interesting.  Houston's explosive point guard Rob Gray helped carry the Cougars with 24 points. Meanwhile, only one WSU player, Shaquille Morris (12 points), reached double figures in a horrid shooting night (20% from three) for the Shockers, who also coughed up 18 turnovers. Preseason All-American Landry Shamet was limited to 7 points on 2-for-10 shooting from the floor.  The Cougars improved to 9-0 at home this year and avenged an 81-63 road loss to Wichita State earlier this month. The Shockers started the week out front in the AAC, but that's quickly changed for the conference newcomer. After getting upset at home by SMU earlier in the week, Wichita State is now tied with Houston and Memphis with two losses in league play, and those teams all trail first-place Cincinnati. Both SMU and Houston are fringe NCAA tournament teams that could help give the AAC more than two bids to the Big Dance.
