After a sweep in Miami and the trade deadline acquisitions coming to the Bronx for the first time, the Yankees looked to make up some more ground in the standings with the first of three against Baltimore. However, that plan fell flat on its face as Andrew Heaney gave up a quartet of solo home runs, the Yankees' offense was silent, no-hit through a solid part of the game, and the most exciting part of the night's 7-1 loss was a cat on the field. And the bad news got worse in the postgame as more Yankees head to the IL and Gerrit Cole tests positive for COVID-19. Here's Ryan Gregware with all that and more. Between draft picks and young talent, the New York Knicks have a lot of capital to offer up this offseason in search of a star to add to their roster. The latest name to enter the rumor mill is Cavaliers' guard Collin Sexton, a scorer that could jolt a Knicks' offense in need of it. However, the Cavs may not be ready to give Sexton away for the offer currently on the table, raising the question of just how much the Knicks should be willing to give up for him. Kris, Mike and Colin discuss. Listen to interviews, podcasts and more at wfuvsports.org. It was a weird week for the New York Yankees. Coming into the final game before Monday's All-Star break, it looked set to be a successful West Coast road trip at a time when they needed it the most, taking two of three from the Mariners and sweeping the Astros. However, in what has become a far too common occurrence, they let another one slip away in the ninth, dropping a disastrous game to end an otherwise promising week. Dylan, Ryan and Mike react to what went down and the importance of these games for the Yankees as they have little room for error in the playoff hunt, which starts tomorrow against the Red Sox. In what may have been the worst start of the season for Jacob deGrom, which is saying something, and a late run allowed by Edwin Diaz, the Mets' offense stepped up to overcome three deficits and fight for a 4-3 victory over the Phillies. Featuring sound from deGrom and Rojas on the team's resiliency, here is Sam Davis' postgame report. FOLLOW US: Twitter: @wfuvsports Instagram: @wfuv_sports Facebook: WFUV Sports YouTube: WFUV Sports
After a slow start from Michael King, an Aroldis Chapman meltdown and another slow day at the plate, it looked like the Yankees were going to fold on Wednesday night and hand a second victory over to the Kansas City Royals. However, King bounced back, Green settled things down, Sanchez delivered in the eighth and Voit finished things off one inning later to secure a wild walk-off win for New York that they desperately needed. Here's Ryan Gregware with the postgame report. FOLLOW US: Twitter: @wfuvsports Instagram: @wfuv_sports Facebook: WFUV Sports YouTube: WFUV Sports
The Mets got two terrific starts from their pitchers during Monday's doubleheader with the Braves, but only walked away with one win. Another shutout performance, albeit a short one, from Jacob deGrom and a big hit from Dom Smith earned a win in the opener. Despite an equally as impressive start from Jerad Eickhoff in game two, the Mets lost by a frustrating score of 1-0. Now, they will have to face a new set of injury challenges as well. Sam Davis has all that and more in this postgame report. FOLLOW US: Twitter: @wfuvsports Instagram: @wfuv_sports Facebook: WFUV Sports YouTube: WFUV Sports
The Yankees got even in their series with the Oakland Athletics with a hectic 7-5 win on Saturday afternoon at the Stadium. Domingo German struggled on the mound to put the Yanks behind early, but some help from the bullpen kept the A’s at bay and the Pinstripes in it. All of it’s in Ryan Gregware’s postgame report. The Mets' hot streak continues with a 5-2 win to start off a four-game series with the Cubs. Coming into the night with some concerns in the back-half of the rotation and dwindling confidence, David Peterson overcame both for one of the best starts of his career, the Mets offense did just enough and Edwin Diaz picked up the save to secure the Mets' 12th win in their last 16 games. Here's Sam Davis recapping the night and manager Luis Rojas' thoughts on Peterson's performance. FOLLOW US: Twitter: @wfuvsports Instagram: @wfuv_sports Facebook: WFUV Sports YouTube: WFUV Sports
