Duquesne holds off San Francisco 67-65. LAS VEGAS (AP) — Mike Lewis II scored 20 on Friday night and Duquesne stopped San Francisco in the final seconds for a 67-65 win in an opening night matchup at the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic. Duquesne (9-3) took the lead for good at 64-62 on Tarin Smith's 3-point play with 1:11 left and Eric Williams Jr.'s dunk extended the lead to four with 16 seconds left. Matt McCarthy quickly answered with a 3-point play for San Francisco (7-5), Lewis hit 1 of 2 free throws a second later and that gave San Francisco a chance to tie or go ahead on the final play. But Chase Foster missed a jumper with three seconds left and Duquesne won its seventh straight. Lewis had 18 points in the second half including 11 during a 12-4 run that gave the Dukes a 52-41 lead. The Dons scored 12 straight to take their first lead of the second half at 56-55 and led again at 60-59 and 62-61.
Temple holds off Drexel down stretch for 63-60 win. PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Shizz Alston Jr. scored 12 points and Temple got a big contribution from its bench in beating Drexel 63-60 on Saturday. Temple reserves Damion Moore, De'Vondre Perry and Alani Moore II combined to score 19 of the Owls' 38 points in the first half. Temple (7-3) led 38-29 at halftime after Quinton Rose's 3-pointer. The Dragons (5-6) opened the second half on a 7-0 run and Austin Williams' dunk tied it at 53 with 5:32 left. Temple regained the lead on a Rose jumper, but Sammy Mojica sank a 3-pointer and Drexel led 56-55 with 2:42 to go. It was the Dragons' first lead since 6-4. Alston rebounded his own missed shot and scored and Rose fed Aflakpui for a layup and a 61-57 Temple lead. Kurk Lee cut the deficit to a point with a long 3-pointer with 15 seconds left, but Enechionyia hit a pair of free throws and Lee missed a 3 at the buzzer.
Macon scores 25 to lead Arkansas past Troy, 88-63. NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Daryl Macon scored 25 points and hit five 3-pointers to lead Arkansas to its third straight victory with an 88-63 win over Troy on Saturday night. The points are the second highest total of the season for Macon, who had 27 in a win over Oklahoma on Nov. 23. The senior finished 8 of 14 from the field and 5 of 9 from behind the arc for the Razorbacks (8-2), who shot 62.1 percent (18 of 29) in the first half on their way to the convincing win. Anton Beard added 11 points and freshman Daniel Gafford had 10 for Arkansas, which entered the game leading the Southeastern Conference in scoring at 88.1 points per game. Wesley Person scored 25 points to lead the Trojans (5-6), who lost by only eight points at No. 8 Kentucky earlier in the season. Alex Hicks added 16 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
Clemons scores 32, Campbell holds off The Citadel 87-77. BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Chris Clemons scored 22 of his 32 points in the second half Thursday night and Campbell built a big lead before holding off The Citadel 87-77. The game was tied at 24 with 6:34 to play in the first half when the Camels (5-5) reeled off 16 straight points, the last six from Clemons on a 3-pointer and 3-point play. The teams swapped baskets and it was 42-26 at the half. Clemons opened the second half with three treys in a 9-2 run, making it 51-28. The Citadel (4-6), one of the top 3-point shooting teams in the country, was down 20 midway through the second half before putting together a 13-0 run. Matt Frierson had five points with a trey, Tariq Simmons had a 3 and Kaelon Harris had a 3-point play that made it 65-58 with 5:21 to go.
No. 17 Arizona State deals No. 2 Kansas its second loss at home this week. No. 2 Kansas fell to a Pac-12 team at home for the second time this week. No. 17 Arizona State knocked off the Jayhawks 95-85 led by 29 points from Tra Holder. Holder was one of three scorers with 20 points for the Sun Devils, who improved to 9-0. Kansas, which lost its first game of the season to Washington on Wednesday, dropped to 7-2.
Anderson rallies Navy to 73-68 win over Columbia. NEW YORK (AP) — Shawn Anderson scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for his first double-double and Navy rallied in the second half on Sunday to edge Columbia 73-68 for its fifth-straight win. Hasan Abdullah added 16 points and Evan Wieck 14 as the Midshipmen (9-3) erased an 18-point first-half deficit. It was the second largest comeback in school history. Navy defeated Bryant last season after trailing by 25. Columbia (1-9) led 31-13 with 6:44 to go in the first half as a Myles Hanson 3-pointer capped an 11-0 run. Mike Smith scored the first eight, including back-to-back treys. Abdullah's 3 capped a 9-3 Navy surge in less than 90 seconds that cut the gap to 40-32 at the break. Wieck scored six straight for Navy, tying the game at 42 less than four minutes into the second half. Bryce Dulin's dunk at 15:03 gave them their first lead, 46-44, but Columbia scored the next 10.
Lofton scores 22 as New Mexico State beats New Mexico 65-62. ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — Zach Lofton scored 22 points for New Mexico State and two potential tying shots hit rim and bounced away in the closing five seconds for New Mexico as the Aggies came away with a 65-62 win Saturday night. A.J. Harris added 12 points for New Mexico State (7-2). Antino Jackson had 14 points and Troy Simons 13 for the Lobos (3-7). But Simons' putback with five seconds rolled off the rim. And after Lofton made one of two free throws, Anthony Mathis had a good luck at a 3-pointer, but it drew iron as the buzzer sounded. The game was tight throughout, with the Aggies holding their biggest lead at 23-16 midway through the first half but New Mexico responded with eight points over a 44-second span to regain the lead.
Mahmoud propels Louisville over Siena 86-60. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Anas Mahmoud stuffed the stat sheet - and stuffed Siena over and over and over - with 17 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocked shots in a near-triple-double as Louisville used a big second half to put away Siena 86-60 on Wednesday night. Quentin Snider added a season-high 16 points, and Ray Spalding had 10 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for the Cardinals (5-2), who led by only a point with 15:26 to play before reeling off 18 straight points. Thanks mostly to Mahmoud and Spalding, Louisville had 15 blocks in all as it rebounded from last week's consecutive losses to Purdue and Seton Hall that had knocked the Cardinals out of the Top 25. Sammy Friday had 15 points and 15 rebounds for Siena (2-6), which made just nine field goals after halftime.
