2023 Miami F1 GP Race analysis by Peter Windsor
2023 Miami F1 GP Race analysis by Peter Windsor

This race was all about Red Bull and the stunning drive by Max Verstappen from P9 on the grid to the winner's podium. Opting for an untried - and unrecommended - Pirelli tyre compound strategy, Verstappen decimated the field in the first 20 laps and was thereafter always in control - even when his pole-winning team-mate, Sergio Perez, switched to new tyres. In this video Peter Windsor details the race from Red Bull's perspective and offers his opinion as to why Verstappen was so quick on a heavy fuel load in the early, decisive laps. 2022 F1 Abu Dhabi GP: race analysis by Peter Windsor
2022 F1 Abu Dhabi GP: race analysis by Peter Windsor

Red Bull's Max Verstappen placed the ultimate stamp on his victorious 2022 season with a beautifully-placed win in Abu Dhabi, crossing the line some eight seconds ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. This was Verstappen's 15th win of the year - a record for one season (albeit still short of the 75 per cent winning record of Alberto Ascari) but on this occasion Sergio Perez in the other Red Bull could finish only third, thus ceding second place in the title standings to the brilliant Leclerc. Carlos Sainz finished P4 for Ferrari, ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and McLaren's Lando Norris, who also set a stunning fastest lap on a new set of medium Pirellis 14 laps from the flag; but both Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton (hydraulics) and Alpine's Fernando Alonso (water leak) failed to finish. To the backdrop of Abu Dhabi being the final race for Sebastian Vettel and possibly for Daniel Ricciardo, Peter Windsor looks back at a tactically-intriguing race and reflects upon the season overall. 2022 Abu Dhabi F1 Qualifying: analysis by Peter Windsor
2022 Abu Dhabi F1 Qualifying: analysis by Peter Windsor

It was business (kind of) as normal in qualifying for the Abu Dhabi GP, with Red Bull taking the front row, Ferrari the second row and Mercedes P5, P6. On that basis - barring the variables - Red Bull look set for a great race but it could be close between Ferrari and Merc. In this video, with detailed top speed and sector analysis, Peter talks us through the day's key moments and looks ahead to Sunday. Note: although McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo qualified P10 in his last race with the team, he will be starting P13 due to the grid penalty he incurred after his collision with Kevin Magnussen in Brazil. 2022 F1 Mexican GP race analysis by Peter Windsor
2022 F1 Mexican GP race analysis by Peter Windsor

With his win in Mexico, Max Verstappen becomes the first driver ever to win more than 13 races in one season. Red Bull were pushed hard by Mercedes around the high-altitude circuit, but in the end it was Verstappen's management of the medium-compound Pirelli tyre - and his resilience under intense pressure - that made the difference. Even so, Lewis Hamilton finished a resounding second after neatly passing his team-mate, George Russell, at the third corner, and Russell recovered to finish P4. Sergio Perez, a national hero in Mexico, also passed Russell on the opening lap to take the lower place on the podium. It was a bad day for Ferrari, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finishing only fifth and sixth - but Daniel Ricciardo put in the best drive of his season so far to finish in P7 after a long race to the finish on the soft Pirelli tyres. In this video - which includes significant data graphics - Peter Windsor looks back at an enthralling race around the Circuito Hermanos Rodriguez. 2022 F1 US GP Race Analysis by Peter Windsor
2022 F1 US GP Race Analysis by Peter Windsor

The tenth US GP to be staged in Austin had everything: a first corner-shunt that eliminated the pole-sitter (Ferrari's Carlos Sainz); a brilliant undercut by Mercedes for Lewis Hamilton; a delayed pit stop for Red Bull's Max Verstappen; a massive shunt on the straight caused by Aston Martin's Lance Stroll; a tense, closing-lap battle between Hamilton and Verstappen (which Max won); and an astonishing drive to seventh place by Alpine's Fernando Alonso, the driver at the receiving end of Stroll's high-speed swerve. As if that wasn't enough, as Peter Windsor details in this video, Max and Sergio Perez in Austin secured the 2022 FIA Constructors' F1 World Championship for Red Bull - and Max, with his 13th win of the year, equalled the record set previously by Michael Schumacher (2004) and Sebastian Vettel (2013). Note: after this video was posted, F1 relegated Fernando Alonso to P15 in the final results. This followed a protest by the Haas team regarding a broken mirror on the Alpine and Alpine's decision not to bring the car in for repairs. Alpine had argued that at no stage was Fernando shown a black-and-orange warning flag but this defence was turned down and a 30-sec penalty applied to Fernando's overall race time. 2022 F1 Japanese GP race analysis by Peter Windsor
2022 F1 Japanese GP race analysis by Peter Windsor

It rained in the build-up to the 2022 F1 Japanese GP at Suzuka - but they started nonetheless from the grid, from which Red Bull's Max Verstappen pulled-off the pass of the year into Turn 1/1B; then it rained some more - and several were the first-lap incidents. They adjourned, then, to the pit lane. More rain followed until, eventually, they re-started behind the Safety Car for a 40min sprint. This time Max led from start to finish but, with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc finishing second, the consecration for the championship seemed destined for Austin. Then came the news that Leclerc had incurred a five-second penalty for gaining an advantage after sliding into the escape road of the chicane on the final lap. Then began the celebrations... In this video, Peter Windsor looks back at the day's key events; celebrates the Red Bull one-two and championship victory; and suggests some solutions to the safety issues that arose in Japan on race day. 2022 Italian Grand Prix: F1 race analysis
2022 Italian Grand Prix: F1 race analysis

Sections of the crowd at Monza actually booed Max Verstappen after he had won the 2002 Italian Grand Prix. Partly that was because they had wanted to see a race to the flag (the GP actually finished behind a Safety Car) but mainly it was because they had wanted to see a Ferrari victory. In this video Peter Windsor addresses this issue of concern - and also offers his explanation as to why Max and the Red Bull RB18 were again so dominant - why they were not sucked-in by Charles Leclerc's relatively early switch to medium tyres and would thereafter control the race with a significant tyre-life (and overall pace) advantage. Also in this video: analysis of other key results from Monza, including George Russell's P3 for Mercedes, Carlos Sainz finishing P4 after starting his Ferrari at the back of the grid - and the very popular P9 for the Williams stand-in driver, Nick De Vries. How Max won and Mercedes lost at Zandvoort by Peter Windsor
How Max won and Mercedes lost at Zandvoort by Peter Windsor

Max Verstappen won his home race - the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort - from the pole...but it was no easy thing. The two Mercedes shocked the Red Bull and Ferrari teams with their mid-race pace on hard Pirellis - and proved equally competitive when they switched to medium tyres on a lighter fuel load later in the race. Then came a Safety Car period and, for Max, a welcome switch to soft tyres for the final sprint. Mercedes' George Russell also switched to softs but Lewis Hamilton, who had been in the strongest position to challenge for the lead, was left out on mediums. Mercedes saw this as an aggressive strategy because it gained them track position (ie, the lead for Lewis) - and assumed that, in P2, on soft tyres, Lewis was never going to be able to beat Max anyway. In this video, Peter Windsor argues that Hamilton, on softs, might well have been able to cause Max a few problems - particularly as Russell, on 15-lap-old soft tyres, was able to all-but-match Verstappen's fastest lap (set when Max's tyres were still fresh).
