Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry combine for memorable win | Round 4 | Zurich Classic | 2024
In the final round of the 2024 Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry shoot a 4-under 68 to force a playoff with Chad Ramey and Martin Trainer. On the first playoff hole, McIlroy and Lowry make a par that sealed McIlroy’s 25th PGA TOUR title and Lowry’s third. Rory McIlroy makes his tournament debut alongside good friend, Ryder Cup teammate and fellow Irishman Shane Lowry. McIlroy is looking to build some momentum this season, as he has posted only one top-15 thus far (third at the Valero Texas Open). Lowry recently went T4-3rd-T19 on the Florida Swing. Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele play together this week in an attempt to claim the title back after their victory in 2022. Cantlay played well for a T3 finish last week at the RBC Heritage, while Schauffele’s T2 at THE PLAYERS Championship and 8th place finish at the Masters will give him confidence. The pair claimed T4 in defense of their title last year. Davis Riley and Nick Hardy will defend their 2023 title this week. No team has ever gone back-to-back at this event. Others to look out for are Sahith Theegala and Will Zalatoris, as well as three sets of brothers including Alex and Matt Fitzpatrick, Rasmus and Nicolai Højgaard and Parker and Pierceson Coody. Hideki Matsuyama wins with historic comeback at Riviera | Round 4 | Genesis | 2024
In the final round of The Genesis Invitational 2024, Hideki Matsuyama shoots a 9-under 62 to get to 17-under after 72 holes. Matsuyama overcame a six-shot deficit entering Sunday to win his ninth PGA TOUR title in historic fashion at The Riviera Country Club. The Genesis Invitational is the first of three player-hosted invitationals (along with the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and Jack Nicklaus’ Memorial Tournament presented by Workday). Tiger Woods is the host this week but will also be in the field. This will be his first start since the Masters Tournament in 2023 – where he withdrew after the third round. Last season’s Genesis Invitational was his last full four-round effort on the PGA TOUR before injury. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler returns to action after a strong finish in last week’s WM Phoenix Open. He claimed T3 in his attempt to become the first player to three-peat on the PGA TOUR since Steve Stricker in 2009-11. Scheffler finished 12th at The Genesis last season. Rory McIlroy is set to make just his second TOUR start in 2024 after a T66 at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. This will be McIlroy’s eighth start at Riviera. Scottie Scheffler will be teeing it up in Maui this week and is coming off a three-shot win at the Hero World Challenge at the end of November to wrap up a three-win 2023. The American will look to improve on finishes of T7 in 2023 and T13 from 2021 at The Sentry. Reigning FedExCup Champion Viktor Hovland will also be in Hawaii this week after being a member of the victorious European Ryder Cup team and capturing three top-10 finishes worldwide in the fall to cap off his 2023.
