It's good to be home. After 640 days without soccer at ATCO Field, Tuesday night saw the fans return and the excitement of live professional soccer back in this city. It was a beautiful night for the beautiful game and the team made sure to send everyone home happy. Down a goal at halftime to our provincial rivals in FC Edmonton, we found our play early in the second half and were rewarded with a goal by international signing Joe Mason. With momentum (and a raucous crowd) behind us, we took the lead in the 71st minute as Mo Farsi sent a cross into the box to find Joe Mason again - only to be denied by Eddies keeper Connor James - but the rebound found the foot of Daan Klomp who promptly deposited the ball into the back of the net. It was the first match at Starlight Stadium in front of home fans in 689 days, and an early goal by the home team gave them momentum...and created a bit of a mountain to climb. We had our moments and were in the match as keeper Marco Carducci came up big for us throughout. In the end, it wasn't enough and now our attention turns to our home opener on Tuesday night. Friday night was the start of the next chapter in our 2021 CPL season. Out of the Winnipeg bubble, and back into regular home and away contests. In advance of our home-opener on Tuesday, August 3rd, we had a date with Pacific FC out on the West Coast. It was a tough go as we dropped behind early. Marco Carducci was spectacular tonight, keeping us in the game on numerous occasions as we searched for the equalizer. Sadly, it never came and we dropped the match 2-0.
