A beautiful Sunday afternoon at ATCO Field was the setting for the most recent chapter of the Al Classico. Our provincial rivals, FC Edmonton, were in tough against a healthy squad looking to take three points at home before heading out on a 3-week road trip. The teams exchanged goals in the first half and the second as we saw striker Joe Mason send the fans into a frenzy late with the equalizing tally. A 2-2 draw saw each team take a point home with them. August 29, 2021 video: One Soccer #CavsFC #CPL
"We came here, we've taken three points and we'll just move on." Coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. fields questions after our 2-1 win over Pacific FC on Friday night. He talks about the match and the tale of two halves, the upcoming break for the players (as we start to see the return of some injured players) and the season-long goal of finishing in that top four. (apologies for the audio issues...this was the best we received, but still wanted to share it with you) August 20, 2021 #CavsFC #CPL

Last night saw the boys fire out of the gate and dominate the first half against league-leaders Pacific FC. Joe Mason collected a brace within the span of 7 minutes midway through the half, numerous other quality chance were there (I believe coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. said it could have been 3 or 4 goals in that first half) and we walked into the locker room at the midway point with a 2-0 lead. But you knew Pacific would come out pressing in the second half and they showed why they are one of the top teams in the CPL this season. A late goal via penalty kick cut the lead in half, but it was not enough as we pulled out a tough 2-1 win and gained those important away points. We are taking a few days off as we won't see game action again until Sunday, August 29th (vs. FC Edmonton) at ATCO Field. Coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. takes questions from the media in advance of our match vs Pacific FC on Friday night. He provides an injury update and who we should expect to see back on the sidelines, breaks down our opponent (who sit atop the CPL standings), discusses the fluidity of players stepping up in various positions on the pitch and praises the CPL's adoption of a unique U-Sports contract structure that allows players like young Max Piepgrass an opportunity to get a taste of pro soccer here in Canada. As always, a great listen. Recorded August 19, 2021 #CavsFC #CPL
Goal scorer Joe Mason and coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. answer questions from the media after our decisive 2-0 win over FC Edmonton in the opening round of the 2021 Canadian Championship. Joe talks about his first half goal, that ended up being the winner, and the raucous Cavs crowd who made the trek up to Edmonton to support the team. Coach Wheeldon shares his thoughts on the "next man up" scenario that has seen our squad turn away from "starters and subs" to every man stepping up when called on. He also gives mention to the fantastic support from the Cavalry faithful - who have been a huge part of our success since inception - and talks about Honduran, José Escalante's versatility and veteran presence. We move on in the Canadian Championship bracket. Next up, we play the winner of the Pacific FC/Vancouver Whitecaps matchup (happening later this month). August 15, 2021 #CavsFC #CanChamp #AlClassico
It was an overcast Sunday afternoon as we squared off against Valour FC at ATCO Field in front of another raucous crowd at Spruce Meadows. It was an evenly battled first half until the 41st minute when Sergio Camargo took a pass from David Norman Jr. and found some space into the offensive zone. He drew the defenders in and fed Mo Farsi the ball only to see him finish in style. It would be the momentum we would need going into the half and we never looked back. It was a great team win for the boys and another example of adapting our tactical approach to the match. We go again on Wednesday, August 11 vs Pacific FC and tickets are still available. Coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. shares his thoughts on our 1-0 win over Valour FC this afternoon. Mo Farsi's goal, Marco Carducci's clean sheet and captain Nik Ledgerwood's leadership...all while basking in the rain by our supporters. A great way to cap off the weekend and (once again) fantastic to see fans in the stands at home. August 8, 2021 video: One Soccer #CavsFC #CPL
