'I thought it was FAIR! You see Jonny do it ALL THE TIME!' | Pat Cummins | 2nd Ashes Test at Lord's
'I thought it was FAIR! You see Jonny do it ALL THE TIME!' | Pat Cummins | 2nd Ashes Test at Lord's

Pat Cummins is adamant, there was nothing unfair about Johnny Bairstow's stumping on the final day of the second Ashes Test at Lord's. The dismissal was a pivotal moment as England were chasing down a second-innings target of 371. England captain Ben Stokes did his best with 155, but still the hosts fell 43 runs short. Cummins though said Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey had seen Bairstow wander out of his crease on a few occasions and so took the opportunity to knock down the stumps. After some deliberation, his England counterpart was sent to the pavilion as the umpires agreed, they had not called over, and Bairstow had taken the decision to wander on his own. The dismissal drew the ire of the crowd, but Cummins believes it was within the rules of the game and fair play and says he has spoken to Stokes and there's no animosity. 'Headingley '19 was on OUR MINDS!' | Cummins | Australia WIN 1st Test v Australia England
'Headingley '19 was on OUR MINDS!' | Cummins | Australia WIN 1st Test v Australia England

Reaction after Australia beat England by two wickets to take a 1-0 lead in The Ashes following an all-time classic at Edgbaston. Ben Stokes' England set Australia a target of 281, and after rain delayed the start of the final day's play, Pat Cummins' side resumed their second innings on 107-3. England worked through Australia's top order, and after Joe Root caught Alex Carey, which left the visitors 227-8, Nathan Lyon joined captain Pat Cummins at the crease with victory seemingly inevitable for the hosts. However, the duo produced a stunning ninth-wicket partnership of 55 to hold off the attacks of Stuart Broad and Ollie Robinson to seal a famous win after five days of enthralling Test cricket. It was a fitting conclusion to a match which ebbed and flowed, and produced some unpredictable moments, including captain Stokes' decision to declare on day one with England 393-8. After the match, the 32-year-old refused to dwell on the surprising call and whether it affected the final outcome. The second Test of the five-match series gets under way at Lord's in London on 28th June. Ireland 29-16 England: Steve Borthwick and Owen Farrell press conference
Ireland 29-16 England: Steve Borthwick and Owen Farrell press conference

Ireland reignited the St Patrick’s weekend celebrations by clinching Grand Slam success in Dublin for the first time with a battling 29-16 bonus-point victory over 14-man England. The world’s top-ranked side were odds-on favourites to sweep aside their rivals but were made to work hard for the country’s fourth championship clean sweep overall. Dan Sheehan’s two tries and further scores from Robbie Henshaw and Rob Herring ultimately elevated Andy Farrell’s class of 2023 alongside the heroes of 1948, 2009 and 2018 on a historic occasion at a rowdy Aviva Stadium.
