Report: https://www.closecallsports.com/2021/05/mlb-ejections-044-45-jim-reynolds-1-2.html Crew Chief Reynolds also ejected Minnesota's manager Rocco Baldelli for arguing Duffey's ejection.

Check out our other Socials: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/CloseCallSports/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/CloseCallSports When HP Umpire Tony Randazzo called Dodgers batter-runner Luke Raley out in the 5th inning of Thursday's game vs San Diego, he applied Official Baseball Rule 5.09(a)(11). Article: https://www.closecallsports.com/2021/04/the-strict-scrutiny-of-runners-lane.html The runner's lane interference (RLI) rule states that a batter is out for interference when, in running the last half of the distance from home base to first base, while the ball is being fielded to first base, he runs outside (to the right of) the three-foot line, or inside (to the left of) the foul line, and in the umpire’s judgment in so doing interferes with the fielder taking the throw at first base, in which case the ball is dead. Because Raley appeared to have failed to comply with the terms of OBR 5.09(a)(11), Randazzo called the batter-runner out for RLI as the Padres ultimately defeated Los Angeles, 3-2.
HP Umpire John Libka ejected New York pitcher Taijuan Walker and manager Luis Rojas for arguing balls and strikes in the 4th and 6th innings, respectively, of the Mets-Cubs game in Chicago. Report: https://www.closecallsports.com/2021/04/mlb-ejections-013-14-john-libka-nym-x2.html Walker was ejected as he argued after a pitching change following several walks in the 4th inning while Rojas was ejected after a strike three call to Michael Conforto in the 6th, leading Chicago's broadcasters to announce Joe West's arrival to break up the argument with, "here comes the principal."
A catcher's interference Replay Review brought Los Angeles pitcher Clayton Kershaw and San Diego batter Jurickson Profar into a shouting match as the two players disputed a bizarre check swing at Petco Park. Article: https://www.closecallsports.com/2021/04/kershaw-profars-catcher-interference.html As we've previously discussed, catcher's interference can be called during a check swing, and as "an act by a fielder that hinders or prevents a batter from hitting a pitch," doesn't actually require a swing whatsoever, if the umpire rules that the catcher caught the pitch before it had a chance to traverse the hitting zone and before the batter had an opportunity of a free choice to swing or not swing at a pitch. That said, with replays indicating that Profar's check swing made contact with catcher Austin Barnes' mitt after Barnes had already caught Kershaw's pitch, and more importantly at a point in which it appeared that Profar would have been unable to make contact with the pitch even if Barnes had not been there, was Replay HQ's decision to overturn HP Umpire Tom Hallion's strike three call to catcher's interference proper or should nuance, common sense, and fair play, be afforded the umpires in New York to discretionarily rule on such a catcher's interference play.
HP Umpire Phil Cuzzi ejected Colorado Manager Bud Black after complaints from the visiting team dugout at Dodger Stadium regarding the height of Cuzzi's strike zone. Report: https://www.closecallsports.com/2021/04/mlb-ejection-010-phil-cuzzi-1-bud-black.html
HP Umpire Jerry Layne ejected LA of Anaheim Manager Joe Maddon following his second lost Manager's Challenge of the LA-Toronto game in Florida. Report: https://www.closecallsports.com/2021/04/mlb-ejection-005-jerry-layne-1-joe.html Half an inning earlier, Maddon had unsuccessfully challenged a slide rule interference no-call at second base, which ultimately led not just to the no interference call being confirmed, but actually resulted in an overturned call and baserunner Jonathan Davis being awarded second base when Blue Jays Manager Charlie Montoyo counter-challenged that Angels shortstop Jose Iglesias had come off the bag before fielding the throw. Seven Toronto runs later, Replay Review again affirmed an umpire's call after a Maddon challenge, this time confirming 1B Umpire Hunter Wendelstedt's ruling that Juan Lagares was out at first base. Maddon was ejected from the game following this second lost challenge.
