Motherwell have hit the net more than 50 times over the course of the 2021/22 season, but only the most impressive strikes are ...
With Motherwell still searching for their first win in the cinch Premiership since the start of 2022, St Mirren were the visitors to Fir Park. With just two games remaining before the split, the Steelmen needed to get the points on the board to move into the top six. But St Mirren, who were led by former Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson on his first return back to Fir Park, were also in desperate search of the points for the same reason. An end-to-end first half made it one of the most dramatic games of the season, and Motherwell went on to seal a precious three points after the break. It sets up a nail biting finish to the third round of fixtures as only four points split fourth and 10th in the table. Motherwell travel to Livingston for the final pre-split game.
The former Motherwell man steered home Kevin van Veen's cross to seal the 4-2 win for the Steelmen in the cinch Premiership.
"I'm proud of the players. We didn't stop believing in each other. We now have to follow it up to make it count."
The Dutch striker gave Motherwell the lead in the league fixture in Perth, but his side went on to lose the game 2-1.
Motherwell were looking to book their place in the last four in the Scottish Cup when they lined up against Hibernian in the quarter final tie at Fir Park. But Graham Alexander's men got off to the worst possible start as defender Bevis Mugabi was shown a red card within the first 60 seconds. With the one-man advantage, Hibs went two goals ahead and looked to be cruising to a semi final fixture at Hampden. Hard work and resilience kept the home side in the tie though, and Joe Efford pulled a goal back on the brink of half time. Despite their battling spirit, however, Motherwell were unable to complete the comeback and bowed out at the same stage, to the same opponents, as the previous season.
Bottom of the table Dundee were the visitors to Fir Park as Motherwell looked to bounce back from midweek disappointment against Ross County. The away side took an early lead but Joe Efford grabbed his first goal in claret and amber to level the game. Despite constant pressure, Motherwell had to settle for a point.
Ross County were the visitors to Fir Park as Motherwell were looking to build some momentum in the season run-in. But a Ross County penalty was enough to take all three points back to the Highlands.
