Motherwell were looking to book their place in the last four in the Scottish Cup when they lined up against Hibernian in the quarter final tie at Fir Park. But Graham Alexander's men got off to the worst possible start as defender Bevis Mugabi was shown a red card within the first 60 seconds. With the one-man advantage, Hibs went two goals ahead and looked to be cruising to a semi final fixture at Hampden. Hard work and resilience kept the home side in the tie though, and Joe Efford pulled a goal back on the brink of half time. Despite their battling spirit, however, Motherwell were unable to complete the comeback and bowed out at the same stage, to the same opponents, as the previous season.
