Paul George - Superb Separation 17/18 Part 2
Paul George - Superb Separation 17/18 Part 2

Paul George. 5x NBA All-Star. 3x All-NBA Third Team. 2014 NBA All-Defensive First Team. 2x NBA All-Defensive Second Team. 2013’s Most Improved Player. Olympic Gold Medalist (2016 Rio Olympics). PG13, despite playing primarily as the second option for the Thunder, finished 17th in the league in scoring (21.9 points per game), falling just behind like Lou Williams, Kemba Walker, and Bradley Beal, and ahead of the Blake Griffin, CJ McCollum, and Karl-Anthony Towns. He also finished second in steals per game (2.0 spg), and while that’s often not a good gauge of defensive prowess, I think we all know George just IS a dynamic defender (versus gambling for steals). He was the runner up to Victor Oladipo, but better than Jimmy Butler, Ben Simmons, Robert Covington, Chris Paul, Anthony Davis, and Ricky Rubio. Finally, he ranked in the Top 10 in Defensive Win Shares, tied with the Dwight Howard and Rudy Gobert, but ahead of Joel Embiid and Al Horford. Point being that Paul is pretty much prodigious in almost every aspect of the game. The way that PG powers to the basket is a little underrated. To say that he’s wiry strong, like KD and KG before him, is to undervalue him; Paul is legitimately strong, and you’ll see that strength exhibited in how easily a slight bump from him discards/dislodges defenders. Couple that with his hellacious handle and his ability to be on balance as he shifts, twists, and turns to create space to shoot and you’ve got the makings of a man who can just get buckets. He’s brilliant at that quick change of pace AND change of direction that will get a defender leaning one way, and he’ll either rise up right then and there, or power pack to the rack. The man manufactures space much like his idols did: from Kobe to TMac to Penny, he’s got the size, the skill, and the ability to kill from anywhere and everywhere on the floor. It seems almost effortless how efficient his shot motion is, and the foundation for everything he does is based on his almost flawless footwork. No matter where he ends up next season, he’s still just hitting his prime, and that should be a frightening prospect for the league for years to come.

LeBron James - Scintillating Scorer 16/17 Part 2
LeBron James - Scintillating Scorer 16/17 Part 2

The single most spectacular individual talent in the entire NBA, bar none, is inarguably LeBron James. Does his credentials really need listing? If so: 3x NBA Champion. 3x NBA Finals MVP. 4x Most Valuable Player. 13x NBA All-Star. 2x All-Star Game MVP. 11x All-NBA First Team. 2x All-NBA Second Team. 5x NBA All-Defensive First Team. 2014 All-Defensive Second Team. 2012 Defensive Player of the Year Runner-Up. NBA Rookie of the Year. 2008 NBA Scoring Champion. 7th ALL-TIME LEADING SCORER (as of Dec 30, 2017). 7 STRAIGHT NBA Finals Appearances. 2x Olympic Gold Medalist (Beijing 2008, London 2012). Along with a whole host of other accolades, LeBron will always be known as the man who lifted the curse in Cleveland. The Cavaliers became the first team in NBA history to come back from a 3-1 deficit, ending a 52 year title drought. In 2016, LeBron became the first player in NBA history to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals in a playoff series. James joined Jerry West and James Worthy as the only players to record a triple-double in Game 7 of the NBA Finals. In 2017, he became the league’s ALL-TIME leading playoff scoring leader, and was the first to average a triple-double in the Finals. The 2016-17 season saw LeBron lead the league with 37.8 minutes per game, at the age 31 going on 32. He averaged a career best in terms of rebounds and assists (8.6 boards and 8.7 assists). He finished in the top 20 in terms of rebounding (17th), and in the top 10 in points and assists (his 8.7 was good for 6th, and his 26.4 points per game ranked him 8th). The whole point of this video isn’t to showcase something secret, nor is it even a complicated video. LeBron has always valued court vision above all else, using that clarity, verging on clairvoyance, to get other guys involved. You can see that he truly cherishes sharing the rock. James’ generosity despite being the most supreme;y skilled basketball player has led to criticism over the years. "He shouldn’t care who else is on the floor", they claimed. "He should always take the last shot.” LeBron has always been more Magic than Michael, but that more means there’s always been a mix. Somewhere along the way, he’s managed to harness the heart of both greats. He will always see himself as the playmaker, living and dying with the decision to make the right basketball play each and every time. This, however, simply means we shouldn't pigeonhole him. To be JUST a scorer is to scorn LeBron. He scoffs at the idea of being labeled as such…and yet, as an individual, he has evolved into a weapon without weakness. The evolution was inevitable: he’s always been a man of his own convictions, unafraid to share the spotlight, and unwilling to be seen as something he isn’t. I call him a scorer in this video ONLY because it’s one of a series; it is, but one aspect of one player who dominates the game on nearly every level. *DESCRIPTION FROM January 2018

Kyrie Irving - Fantastic Finisher 17/18 Part 1
Kyrie Irving - Fantastic Finisher 17/18 Part 1

Kyrie Irving. NBA Champion. 5x NBA All-Star. 2014 All-Star Game Most Valuable Player. 2015 All-NBA Third Team. Rookie of the Year 2012. FIBA World Cup MVP 2014. 2x USA Basketball Gold Medalist (2016 Rio Olympics, 2014 Spain Basketball World Championships). Kyrie is the most fearsome finisher in the NBA today. His handle is arguably the best in the league (at worst, he’s top 2). He really does have relentless range, and his creativity and ability off the bounce make him one of the world’s greatest at getting you a bucket (any kind of bucket), whatever the defense, whatever the situation. He has proven in Boston that he is an alpha and a willing playmaker. Add to that his fearlessness, ferocity, and the force and finesse with which he can finish, and you have the foundation for one of the most explosive offensive player in the league. Throw in easily the most outstanding off-hand in the game, and you’d be hard pressed to find a way to stop him. He finished his first season as a Celtic averaging 24.4 points per game (top 10 in scoring, just behind reigning Finals MVP Kevin Durant and reigning regular season MVP Russell Westbrook), in the top 10 in Player Efficiency Rating (PER), ahead of guys like Karl-Anthony Towns, CP, Jimmy Butler, Joel Embiid, and Victor Oladipo. He also finished with the same rating as Chris Paul in terms of Value Over Replacement player, JUST behind guys like Anthony Davis, Ben Simmons, and Stephen Curry. Finally, his offensive box plus/minus numbers round out a Top 5 consisting of himself, Damian Lillard, LeBron James, James Harden, and Steph. Unfortunately, we will have to wait until the next season to see Kyrie ruthlessly run through NBA defenses with the greatest of ease, but what a sight to behold Boston will be then. The Celtics were 46-20 before Irving went out at halftime with an injury against Indiana. They’ve soldiered on, going 8-3 since, but they will truly miss him come playoff time. A veteran of 3 consecutive NBA Finals, Irving outgrew his injury plagued early career and proven that he is one of the most durable players in the league, especially given the how he attacked the rack so uncompromisingly early in his career. While he talks about his “Mamba Mentality” and how Kobe has influenced him, you can see some of Michael in how he maneuvers around the basket. I’m not making an outright comparison, but while you’re on YouTube, go back and check out some MJ film on how he finished…it’s not dissimilar. Both are essentially ambidextrous contortionists, with equal amount of flair for acrobatics and dramatics. He was also influenced greatly by his godfather Rod Strickland, the handle and craftiness are visible immediately if you know what you’re looking for. Regardless, Kyrie is a whole new breed. Allen Iverson admitted he never had the handle that Kyrie (and Steph) possess, and the way Irving initiates contact and powers through, you can see a shade of the Answer in the endless question that is how to solve Kyrie’s game. Basically, I’m saying this NBA champion is one of the most dangerous dudes on the court no matter who he’s out there with.

Kawhi Leonard - Scintillating Scorer 16/17 Part 1
Kawhi Leonard - Scintillating Scorer 16/17 Part 1

Kawhi Leonard. NBA Champion. NBA Finals MVP. 2x NBA All-Star. All-NBA First Team in 2016. 2x DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR. This season was San Antonio’s first without the transcendent talent of Tim Duncan, but the Spurs haven’t missed a beat. The franchise recorded 61 wins this year, making it the first time in their storied history that they’ve had two straight 60 win seasons. That is in no small part thanks to the ascendence of Kawhi Leonard’s offensive output. Kawhi finished 9th in scoring, ahead of elite scorers like Steph Curry, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, Jimmy Butler, and Paul George, with the 3rd best Player Efficiency Rating (PER) in the entire league. 25.5 points per game in incredibly efficient fashion (48.5% from the field, 88.0% from the line, 38.1% from 3 on 5 3 point FG attempts per game) is no joke. While Draymond Green might be the most versatile defender in the NBA with his ability to clamp up each position, Kawhi is certainly the league's most dominant defender for the positions he does guard. The Klaw has gone from silently stalking his prey, to one of the top predators, to full-on becoming THE PREDATOR, practical and primal, yet somehow absurdly advanced. Fear. Kawhi instills a sense of fear in the players he defends; they know that he will take the ball away from them at some point, it’s just a matter of when. It is also what he seems to lack on the offensive end. He attacks any and every defender with a fearlessness that some could regard as disrespectful. He sizes opponents up, knowing his athleticism and herculean hands can rip to the rim, and either beats them to the basket, or breaks to his spots. His jumper may never be the silkiest looking stroke, but his fadeaway is reminiscent of a few former MVPs (specifically the one Kawhi probably watched a lot growing up, being that he's an LA native after all). San Antonio's magnificent motion gets Leonard great looks, but he’s just as comfortable getting the ball when the clock is running down, and making something out of nothing. The argument against him is that he is a star in a system, but so is the sun, and both shine rather brightly anyway. Yes, he operates within the offense, but his abilities are obviously what take it from ordinary to overpowering for the Spurs. *Description from June of 2017.

Jayson Tatum - Superb Separation Part 1
Jayson Tatum - Superb Separation Part 1

Jayson Tatum was THE leading scorer on a team that went to the conference finals in 2017-18. His three contemporaries are as follows: LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and James Harden. For a rookie (and one who only turned 20 years old in March) to feature in the company of 3 MVPs is something else. Besides that, Jayson Tatum helped guide the Boston Celtics to a 55-27 record following the loss of arguably their best player in Gordon Hayward in the first few minutes of the season, and Kyrie Irving succumbing to injury in the middle of it. How does he do it? Well. Tatum has been working with Drew Hanlen since he was 13 years old. To my understanding, Hanlen didn’t work with kids that young, but made an exception at the urging of Bradley Beal. His footwork is as pristine as they come, his jumper is smooth, and his moves are silky sweet and SO SHIFTY. He is as polished as a 20 year old has ever been in the NBA, and what’s truly TRULY terrifying is that this season was likely the worst he will ever be. If somehow he never improves, but maintains a long career, his number will surely hang along with the likes of Bill Russell, Larry Legend, John Havlicek, and the rest of those greats. He WILL, however, continue to grow and mature physically, learn more, be more prepared for certain situations, and the game will move even slower for him. He already makes such great reads, and he’s getting a PH.d. in basketball because of Brad Stevens. If everything shakes out right, he could be the next great Celtic, which is what the NBA has always had at it’s peak: a shining star in Boston. He genuinely looks to me to have the makings of a perennial MVP candidate in a league filled with rising stars. Personally, I've seen the Unseen Hours and know that he actively studies Kobe, and I tell people all the time that his game, especially the footwork, build, and fadeaway remind me of one Kobe Bean Bryant. LeBron James - The Kobe Fade (Reverse Pivot/Spin Fade) 17/18
LeBron James - The Kobe Fade (Reverse Pivot/Spin Fade) 17/18

In 2008, Team USA had a little mini documentary series called “Road to Redemption” about USA Basketball’s first Olympics since the failure in Athens in 2004. In one of the episodes, Kobe and LeBron are featured in a side to side interview, when asked about admiring one another’s game from afar, Kobe talked about LeBron (only having finished his 5th year in the league) and his one legged launch. “This guy takes off like he’s jumping off a trampoline off of one leg. It’s the MOST RIDICULOUS one leg takeoff I’ve seen. It’s crazy.” LeBron responds with what’s featured in the video. I’ve thought about making this video for a while but in watching this past season, I knew I would have loads of material for it. I am well aware that this move was MJ’s first, and that Kobe literally studied every single aspect of Michael Jordan’s game, but the reason I call it the Kobe fade in the title is because it’s specifically what LeBron said he studied and what he described. The pump fake into the reverse pivot/spin fade. If you prefer, some call it a shimmy too. Sometimes over the right shoulder, sometimes over the other. Regardless, it's a compilation of roughly all the same action. If you’re still reading this, I’m definitely working on reuploading all of my older videos that have been taken down, but I just wanted to generate some new content for you guys. My instagram account for this YouTube page (@evin_gual_YT) is still a work in progress, but this video is an expansion of a video I had on there that got some great feedback.

Kobe Bryant - Lefty Wonder
Kobe Bryant - Lefty Wonder

Kobe Bryant has arguably the most outstanding offhand the NBA has ever seen. He was certainly the best in the league in his day. His execution is precise, and often, perfect. His craftiness carves up the opposition with ease. His myriad moves with the weak hand warp the mind, because not a lot of even natural lefties are as cunning or capable as Kobe. With meticulous motion and a manipulative metronome, the Mamba’s masterful moves mesmerize. I’ve genuinely disliked Kobe for most of his career, but I have always respected, and at times, even feared him. He’s ferocious and fatal. His unrelenting work to make his non-dominant hand almost as effective a weapon as his right is something to be admired. His vast arsenal and unpredictability have aided in his onslaught on the record books, and that’s why he’s the NBA’s third all-time leading scorer. Those of you that have been following my channel for a while know this video has been taken down a bunch, but y'all know I don't quit, so this is going to continue to get adapted, edited, and re-uploaded as long as I can make it happen.
