In 2008, Team USA had a little mini documentary series called “Road to Redemption” about USA Basketball’s first Olympics since the failure in Athens in 2004. In one of the episodes, Kobe and LeBron are featured in a side to side interview, when asked about admiring one another’s game from afar, Kobe talked about LeBron (only having finished his 5th year in the league) and his one legged launch. “This guy takes off like he’s jumping off a trampoline off of one leg. It’s the MOST RIDICULOUS one leg takeoff I’ve seen. It’s crazy.” LeBron responds with what’s featured in the video. I’ve thought about making this video for a while but in watching this past season, I knew I would have loads of material for it. I am well aware that this move was MJ’s first, and that Kobe literally studied every single aspect of Michael Jordan’s game, but the reason I call it the Kobe fade in the title is because it’s specifically what LeBron said he studied and what he described. The pump fake into the reverse pivot/spin fade. If you prefer, some call it a shimmy too. Sometimes over the right shoulder, sometimes over the other. Regardless, it's a compilation of roughly all the same action. If you’re still reading this, I’m definitely working on reuploading all of my older videos that have been taken down, but I just wanted to generate some new content for you guys. My instagram account for this YouTube page (@evin_gual_YT) is still a work in progress, but this video is an expansion of a video I had on there that got some great feedback.
