Ireland have dropped to fourth in the World Rugby rankings following their shock defeat by Japan, while Wales rose to second after their win over Australia. Before the second round of World Cup pool matches, Wales trailed Ireland by 2.61 rating points. But Ireland’s humiliating 19-12 loss against hosts Japan have had them drop two places from second to fourth, below England – who remain in third position – and Wales, who climb two spots from fourth to second courtesy of their riveting 29-25 win against the Wallabies. Australia are still sixth, but were docked 1.55 points and Japan move up from ninth to eighth. Meanwhile, the top-ranked All Blacks and fifth-placed Springboks’ ratings remain unchanged. Further down, Argentina return to the top 10 at the expense of Fiji. The All Blacks' unexpected slide in the world rugby rankings could see them sit third if things don't go their way in European action this weekend. New Zealand's almost decade-long hold on the top ranking was finally shaken loose last weekend when Wales beat England in Cardiff, sending Warren Gatland's Six Nations champions to the No.1 spot for the first time. The All Blacks' untimely slip to No.2 came despite them thrashing Australia 36-0 in Auckland, a rankings scenario that bemused New Zealand coach Steve Hansen. But more shuffling is likely a month out from the Rugby World Cup in Japan. Ireland will jump to No.1 if they beat England in their Cup warm-up clash at Twickenham A win – by any margin – would see the Irish jump from third to first, with Wales dropping to second and New Zealand to third. Ireland have never held the No.1 ranking since the current system was introduced in 2003. Meanwhile, a win for England – again by any margin – would see them leapfrog South Africa into fourth spot. The resurgent Springboks moved past England after their 24-18 win over Argentina in Pretoria last weekend. There are no matches this weekend involving the southern hemisphere heavyweights. The All Blacks sit quietly to await their rankings fate, their recent draw with the Springboks and heavy loss to the Wallabies in Perth still having ramifications. All Please Like, Share & Subscribe ►Please Subscribe: http://bit.ly/2IHrfeW ►Business Enquiries: garethmason3@gmail.com ►Please support me in growing this channel, any donation will be greatly appreciated: https://www.patreon.com/GarethMasonWalkingTallwithGMAN Connect with me on my Social Media Channels: ► Facebook: http://bit.ly/2Jz5lwi ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/2YRe0zu ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/32vbqBe Why I created my YouTube Channel: Through my YouTube Channel "Walking Tall with G-MAN" I strive to inspire and motivate people to never give up in life as well as using this platform to share my sporting passion. If Wales win today, they go to number one in the World Rugby rankings, joining England, New Zealand and South Africa in a boutique club. Mind you, anyone who saw the All Blacks dismember Australia this morning may have a thing or two to say about what these rankings actually mean. The Springboks have dropped a spot to fifth in the World Rugby rankings despite their 46-13 win over Argentina which clinched the Rugby Championship. England moved past the Springboks courtesy of their victory over Wales at Twickenham. Wales had the chance to move to No 1 in the rankings above New Zealand - who lost 47-26 to Australia in Perth - but it was not to be as they succumbed to a 33-19 defeat. Even though South Africa picked up just over half a rating point for their victory in Salta, the 1.07 points awarded to England was enough for them to trade places with the Springboks and move up to fourth. Wales stay in second place but are just two-tenths of a point ahead of Ireland, who beat Italy 29-10 in Dublin on Saturday. Despite their big win over the All Blacks, the Wallabies were unable to climb the rankings as the two-and-a-half points gained in victory still leaves them in sixth place behind South Africa. New Zealand held on by the skin of their teeth for a 20-16 victory over Argentina in a tense Rugby Championship clash at Velez Sarsfield on Saturday. An All Blacks side lacking several top players led 20-9 at halftime but failed to score in the second half and were indebted to their defence for denying the Pumas a first-ever victory over New Zealand in 29 tests. Fullback Emiliano Boffelli scored Argentina’s only try two minutes into the second half, catching and grounding a fine kick into the All Blacks’ in-goal area by flyhalf Nicolas Sanchez. #RugbyChampionship #ARGvNZL #AllBlacks Please Like, Share & Subscribe ►Please Subscribe: http://bit.ly/2IHrfeW ►Business Enquiries: garethmason3@gmail.com ►Please support me in growing this channel, any donation will be greatly appreciated: https://www.patreon.com/GarethMasonWalkingTallwithGMAN Connect with me on my Social Media Channels: ► Facebook: http://bit.ly/2Jz5lwi ► Twitter: http://bit.ly/2YRe0zu ► Instagram: http://bit.ly/32vbqBe Why I created my YouTube Channel: Through my YouTube Channel "Walking Tall with G-MAN" I strive to inspire and motivate people to never give up in life as well as using this platform to share my sporting passion.
