The British & Irish Lions, in all their long and illustrious history, have only won a series after losing the opener on two occasions – in 1899 and 1989, both times in Australia. Of course, the Lions also salvaged a draw in New Zealand four years ago from 1-0 down. But they have never performed a rescue act in South Africa. South Africa "A" vs Lions RECAP | Castle Lions Series
It's all over at Cape Town Stadium, where South Africa 'A have put in a great second half defensive display to beat British & Irish Lions by 17-13. The SA 'A' side has held on for victory, despite scoring no points in the second stanza. They showed incredible resilience on defence and matched the Lions physically. The tour is now well and truly ON! There's no doubt that doubts over the Springboks' readiness for the series were put to bed after tonight's game. Springboks' second Test against Georgia cancelled
SA Rugby has confirmed that the second Test between the Springboks and Georgia is cancelled. It follows Covid-19 outbreaks in both camps. The Springbok playing and management group returned 12 positive tests, while Georgia had four. The second Test between the Springboks and Georgia, which was scheduled for Ellis Park on Friday, has been cancelled. This was confirmed by SA Rugby on Wednesday after Covid-19 infections in both camps. France vs Scotland Preview | Six Nations 2021 Decider
It all comes down to this. 80 minutes will decide the fate of the 2021 Guinness Six Nations title as France attempt to usurp Wales with victory against Scotland in Paris. An extraordinary Championship appeared done and dusted with 12 minutes to go in Super Saturday’s final game as Wales held a 10-point lead over 14-man Les Bleus. But the twists and turns kept on coming and, after Wales were reduced to 13 by two yellow cards, France struck twice through Charles Ollivon and Brice Dulin to secure a 32-30 win. While that dramatic defeat ended Wales’ Grand Slam bid, Wayne Pivac’s side will still lift the title unless France defeat Scotland with a bonus point and at least a 21-point margin of victory. World Rugby Rankings: England Reclaim Third Place
Wins over France and Scotland have seen England and Ireland both improve their position in the World Rugby Men’s Rankings. England reclaim the third place they lost a fortnight ago thanks to their thrilling 23-20 victory in the 108th edition of ‘Le Crunch’, while Ireland move above Australia and into sixth following their equally tight 27-24 win at Murrayfield. Five other teams are on the up, too, without even taking to the field, because of the results in the Six Nations 2021 and the Rugby Europe Championship 2021. Argentina benefitted from Scotland’s near-miss, taking eighth place off them with the Scots dropping to ninth. Meanwhile, Uruguay swap places with Spain, who were narrowly beaten 25-19 at home by Georgia, and are now 17th and 18th respectively. And the closest result of them all, a 28-27 home defeat to Romania, has cost Portugal three places. Os Lobos drop to 24th with Hong Kong, Namibia and Canada the countries to benefit. Ireland claimed the Centenary Quaich after Johnny Sexton struck a 78th-minute penalty for victory Johnny Sexton’s nerveless late penalty handed Ireland a dramatic 27-24 victory over Scotland in Edinburgh to end their hosts’ slim hopes of winning the Guinness Six Nations title. To seal their first Championship title since 1999, Scotland needed to win their final three games and get help from elsewhere but instead narrowly came out on the wrong side of an enthralling encounter at BT Murrayfield. They had fought back from 14 points down with 20 minutes left to level the score at 24-24 thanks to tries from Huw Jones and Hamish Watson before immediately conceding a penalty that Sexton converted for near the left touchline for the win. The Ireland No.10 kicked brilliantly, slotting 17 points in addition to Robbie Henshaw and Tadhg Beirne’s tries, while Finn Russell crossed for Scotland’s first-half try in bizarre circumstances. The victory extends Ireland’s impressive recent record over Scotland to six straight wins in all competitions and 17 triumphs in the last 20 Championship fixtures between the sides. France Under Investigation After COVID Blunder
France’s participation in the Six Nations hangs in the balance as French rugby federation’s president Bernard Laporte has been ordered to submit a report into their Covid-19 outbreak to the French government. Sports Minister Roxane Maracineanu has demanded an official internal investigation after eleven players and the coach tested positive for the global virus.
