Η τιμωρία της έδρας του ΑΡΗ, λόγω επεισοδίων στη Δράμα, θα οδηγήσει χιλιάδες φίλους και των δυο ομάδων στα Τρίκαλα προκειμένου να βρεθούν στο πλευρό της αγαπημένης τους ομάδας. Στο 18ο λεπτό της αναμέτρησης ο Χατζηνικολάου,παίχτης του Άρη, δέχτηκε πλήθος αντικειμένων στην προσπάθειά του να εκτελέσει ένα πλάγιο άουτ κοντά στη γωνία του κόρνερ, όπου είχε τοποθετηθεί η κύρια μάζα των οπαδών της ένωσης. Αποτέλεσμα όλων αυτών ήταν να σωριαστεί στο έδαφος σπαδάζοντας από τους πόνους. Ο Πρέντας, διαιτητής της αναμέτρησης διέξοψε προσωρινά τον αγώνα, ενώ λίγο αργότερα ένα ασθενοφόρο οδήγησε τον τραυματία στον νοσοκομείο.Στις εξέδρες υπήρξε ένταση, με τους οπαδούς των δυο ομάδων να πετούν εκατέρωθεν καπνογόνα, μπουκάλια και πέτρες. Η παρέμβαση των αστυνομικών δυνάμεων, με την υπερβάλων ζήλου εισβολή τους στις κερκίδες, επέβαλε την τάξη.
