But against the grain, Afghanistan like batting first and then apply the spin choke in conjunction with scoreboard pressure. They did so against Namibia here but that was a day game. They will also be aware of India's bat-first insecurities and that could force a strategy re-think. T20I Head to Head: India 2 - 0 Afghanistan. Both the games were played at T20 World Cups in 2010 and 2012. Team Watch: India Injuries/Unavailability: Suryakumar Yadav missed the game against New Zealand with a back spasm. While batting coach Vikram Rathour said all 15 players were available for selection, given the short turnaround for this clash, Suryakumar could be an unlikely starter. Tactics & Matchups: Afghanistan like to hit out in the PowerPlays and at the death. If there has been a conservative phase in their three Super 12 matches so far, it's been during the four-over period between overs 7 and 10 (Avg Run-Rate 5.17). India, who have had wicket-taking troubles in the PowerPlay, will hope to dictate terms with the ball through this phase. Probable XI: Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy Afghanistan Injuries/Unavailability: Asghar Afghan has retired with immediate effect and will not play in the remainder of the tournament. Bowling allrounder Sharafuddin Ashraf has been approved as the replacement in the squad. Mujeeb Ur Rahman missed the last game with an injury and an update on his injury status hasn't been forthcoming. Tactics & Matchups: Unsurprisingly, spin will be central to the outcome of this tactical battle. Rashid Khan has dismissed KL Rahul thrice, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya twice without giving away much. The players who have played him relatively better, Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant, have been dismissed twice each by Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Afghanistan could also consider left-arm seamer Fareed Ahmed following the success of Shaheen Afridi and Trent Boult in the first two games against India. Probable XI: Hazratullah Zazai, Mohammad Shahzad (wk), Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Usman Ghani, Najibullah Zadran, Mohammad Nabi (c), Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan, Karim Janat/Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Hamid Hassan, Naveen Ul Haq What they said: "Not really [sitting with our calculators out]. We won't be good at maths anyway, being cricketers. I think at this time, at this moment, is to play good cricket. To win the remaining three games. I think these calculations will come into focus when we come into the last game and other results are out. At this moment, there is no focus on calculating run-rates or anything. We're just looking to play well, sort out our issues and get into the game and win the game." - Vikram Rathour "The good news is that we haven't gotten all-out so far, we have batting till No.9, most of the batsmen can hit and even Rashid [Khan] hasn't batted yet. So we have good opportunities against India. If we score good runs on the board, inshallah we can defeat them with bowling and fielding." - Hamid Hassan

From here Najibullah Zadran added 37 runs for the fourth wicket with Gulbadin Naib (15). Zadran played a powerful innings of 73 runs in 48 balls with the help of 3 sixes and 6 fours. T20 World Cup: India crash out of tournament as New Zealand defeat Afghanistan by 8 wickets Trent Boult leads a disciplined New Zealand attack to help restrict Afghanistan to 124 for eight. New Zealand becomes the remaining semi-finalist to qualify from Group 2 after Pakistan. England and Australia have booked their semi-finals spot from Group 1. ABU DHABI: India were effectively pushed out of the T20 World Cup on Sunday as New Zealand defeated Afghanistan by eight wickers. New Zealand thus became the remaining semi-finalist to qualify from Group 2 after Pakistan. England and Australia have booked their semi-finals spot from Group 1. Trent Boult led a disciplined New Zealand attack to help restrict Afghanistan to 124 for eight. Najibullah Zadran played a lone hand with his 48-ball 73 to give the Afghanistan total some respectability after they elected to bat first in Abu Dhabi. Left-arm quick Boult returned figures of 3-17 from his four overs and was ably supported by Tim Southee who took two wickets. A win for New Zealand would take them into the final four but if they lose it would benefit Afghanistan and India, who have got the best run-rate in the group and play Namibia in their last match on Monday. New Zealand's pace bowlers rattled the opposition's top order with quick strikes as Adam Milne sent back Mohammad Shahzad caught behind for four in his first over. Boult got going from the other end to get Hazratullah Zazai out for two and Southee trapped Rahmanullah Gurbaz lbw for six as Afghanistan slipped to 19-3. Zadran counter-attacked with a handful of boundaries including two off Jimmy Neesham but soon took to defence after losing his partner Gulbadin Naib for 15. Naib dragged a wide delivery from Kiwi leg-spinner Ish Sodhi onto his stumps. Skipper Mohammad Naib joined Zadran at the crease as the duo attempted to push the scoring against the spinners and singled out Mitchell Santner for runs. The left-handed Zadran smashed Santner for two sixes and later got to his 50 in a 33 balls. It was his second fifty in this T20 World Cup and sixth overall. Southee broke the 59-run partnership, seeing off Nabi for 14. Boult got the key scalp of Zadran with Neesham taking a good diving catch in the deep and the Afghans struggled to get runs in the final overs. Afghanistan skipper Mohammad Nabi won the toss and elected to bat first. Afghanistan made one change from their loss to India with fit-again spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman back in the XI. "It's a day game, so we want to post a decent total on the board," said Nabi. With a billion Indians praying for an Afghanistan victory, Nabi insisted his side will "try to win" the match for themselves. New Zealand are unchanged from their previous victory that was their third in a row after their opening loss to Pakistan, who are already through to the semi-finals from this group. "We were going to have a bat as well, it's a used surface," captain Kane Williamson said at the toss. "I think both sides have match winners and it´s a mix of youth and experience."
