Japan's B-Girl Ami Yuasa Makes History with Olympic Gold in Breaking #paris2024 #olympics

Japan's Ami Yuasa, also known as B-Girl Ami, showcased a blend of artistry and athleticism to win the first-ever Olympic gold medal for breaking on Friday. In a gripping final against Lithuania's Dominika Banevic, known as B-Girl Nicka, Yuasa secured a 3-0 victory with her impressive air flairs and a series of halos, bringing the audience at La Concorde to their feet. Yuasa, celebrated for her footwork, flow, and diverse range of moves, was fully in sync with the pulsating soundtrack during the intense battle. Her joy was evident when the competition's two MCs raised her arms in victory, reminiscent of a prizefighter’s triumph, on a stage that combined elements of a disco dance floor with a mixed martial arts octagon. Japan’s B-Girl Ami won the first-ever gold medal in breaking at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Friday. B-Girl Ami, or Ami Yuasa as commonly known, defeated Lithuania’s Dominika Banevič—B-Girl Nicka—with a 3-0 victory in the final. Bedecked in a pink sweatsuit and white hat, Yuasa impressed the judges with her performance. The dancers’ performance is judged on creativity, technique, variety, and musicality. She won all three of her preliminary battles. The Japanese breakdancer breezed through the quarterfinals and semifinals to reach the final. In the semifinals, B-Girl Ami overcame fan favourite Syssy—Sya Dembele—3-0 and then secured her place in the final with a 2-1 victory over India Sardjoe from the Netherlands. China’s Liu Qingyi—B-Girl 671—claimed the bronze medal with a 2-1 win over India in the battle for third place. Breaking made a high-energy Olympic debut accompanied by backflips, DJs, plenty of style and a cameo from U.S. rapper Snoop Dogg at the Paris Games, providing an entertaining first impression for a sport that does not know when another chance will come. Breaking made it from its New York roots to the highest level of sports on Friday and took center stage at La Concorde in Paris in an event that felt more like a summer block party than the Olympic Games at times. Japanese B-girl Ami won the first Olympic gold medal in breaking, sweeping to a 3-0 victory in her battle against reigning world champion Nicka of Lithuania in the final round. The atmosphere was electric at Place de la Concorde in Paris as breakdancing - known at Paris 2024 as breaking - made its Olympic debut. In the women's event, Japan's B-Girl Ami (Ami Yuasa) captured the gold medal, while China's B-Girl 671 (Liu Qingyi) clinched the bronze. B-Girl Ami, donning her oversized hoodie, signature baseball cap, and big earrings, dominated Group C after the round robin, defeating B-Girl Anti of Italy, Morocco's B-Girl Elmamouny, and China's B-Girl Ying Zi (Zeng Yingying), losing only two judges' votes. The urban sport of breaking spun its way onto the Olympic stage for the first and possibly last time, with Japan’s B-Girl Ami winning the inaugural women’s gold. Breaking, better known as breakdancing, made its debut amid the grand elegance of Paris’s Place de la Concorde, with 17 dancers known as B-Girls going head-to-head in a series of battles on Friday.
