Sri Lanka has named uncapped off-spinner Ashian Daniel and leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay in a 19-man squad for their two-match Test tour of India early next month. The series, which includes a day-night Test, will begin on March 4 in Mohali before the teams head to Bengaluru for the second Test, a day-night game starting on March 12. The match in Mohali will be Sri Lanka’s 300th Test match. Wicketkeeper batter Niroshan Dickwella is also back in contention for a place for the first time since May last year while senior batter Lahiru Thirimanne returns to the side, having taken paternity leave during Sri Lanka’s last Test series against West Indies. However, there were no places for Oshada Fernando, Minod Bhanuka, Kamil Mishara, Roshen Silva, Ramesh Mendis, Lakshan Sandakan, Suminda Lakshan, Asitha Fernando and Chamika Gunasekera who were with the national team during the series against West Indies in November. Daniel, who celebrates his 21st birthday today, was a former Sri Lanka Under-19 cricketer from St. Joseph’s College and fared decently during the National Super League (NSL) limited-over tournament, claiming 10 wickets in three games. Representing Team Kandy, he made an early impression, picking up 5 for 27 against Jaffna. This is where their road to success shall begin. Which Player would be picked, who will get most of the money, get all the updates here. IPL 2022 auction will begin at 12pm on February 12 and 13 at the Hotel ITC Gardenia in Bengaluru. It is the 15th IPL auction and the fifth mega auction, with the last big one held in 2018. The marquee set of players will be the first one to be brought up in front of the 10 franchises. The set includes players like: Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Pat Cummins, Quinton de Kock, Shikhar Dhawan, Faf du Plessis, Shreyas Iyer, Kagiso Rabada, Mohammed Shami and David Warner. All of these 10 players are expected to be sold in the first round itself. Former Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan will be part of 'Capped' wicketkeeper list. The order has been decided via specialisation of these players. Batters will be the first ones to be up for auction, while all-rounders, wicket-keeper batters, fast bowlers and spin bowlers will follow respectively. Capped and uncapped players will be alternated after a few sets. On the first day, only 161 players will go under the hammer. On the second day, the accelerated process will start, seeing the remaining 429 players being put up for sale too. Despite anxiety among players relating to safety concerns for the tour, all of Australia’s biggest stars have been named in an 18-player squad released on Tuesday morning. But the Australian Cricketers Association said there could be some players who will withdraw from Australia’s first tour of Pakistan in 24 years. There were no surprises in the touring party, with Western Australia speedster Jhye Richardson the only player missing from the 15 who destroyed England 4-0 in the Ashes. Richardson, who suffered a foot injury in the Adelaide Test, has been left out to manage his long-term welfare. Scott Boland has kept his place following his meteoric rise, though he faces a challenge to stay in the XI with senior quick Josh Hazlewood back after a side strain ruled him out of the final four Ashes Tests. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh returns to the Test squad after hitting career highs in the white-ball arena, while spinner Ashton Agar is one of three frontline slow bowlers for Australia’s first tour of Asia since 2018. Josh Inglis retains his place as the country’s No.2 gloveman in the longest format, while uncapped leggie Mitchell Swepson has also kept his place in the squad. “This squad covers for all scenarios, including the conditions given it has been such a long time since Australia was last in Pakistan,” selection chair George Bailey said. “With several subcontinent tours and a one-day World Cup in India on the near horizon this is a great first up challenge for the group after the successful home Ashes Series. “It’s also a very historic tour given the length of time since an Australian side last toured Pakistan.” The three-Test series in Pakistan is the first of three tours to Asia in the next 12-18 months, with missions also to come in Sri Lanka later this year and India. Cummins has made no secret of his desire for Australia, No.1 in the Test rankings, to again become a powerhouse under his watch but knows winning on the subcontinent is central to those ambitions being realised.
