Kolkata Knight Riders Tactics & Match-ups: Suyash Sharma will be licking his lips to bowl at a venue where two opposition wrist spinners - Rashid Khan and Piyush Chawla - have dismantled Delhi Capitals' batting order to set their sides up for wins at this venue. Additionally Umesh KKR's Powerplay option matches up well against Prithvi Shaw having dismissed him twice in 16 balls. What to expect: A chaser's delight as the venue has traditionally been. The surfaces in the two games at the venue have been a bit sticky and had something for the bowlers but eased out as the game progressed. Australia resumed the third session at 71/1 with Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne negating the spinners well. The duo continued to pile on the runs and added 96 runs for the second wicket. Ravindra Jadeja redeemed himself by dismissing the Labuschagne with Australia trailing by just 1 run. Khawaja was brilliant with his gritty half-century. He was out playing the sweep against Jadeja. The quality left-arm spinner continued his good performance and blew the stand-in Aussie Test skipper (Smith) with a beauty. Australia were 156/4 after 54 overs at stumps with Peter Handscomb and Cameron Green keeping their wickets intact and have a handy lead of 47 runs. For India except Jadeja no one came close to picking a wicket and he finished the day with a four-wicket haul. Earlier in the Aussie first innings the openers Travis Head and Usman Khawaja attacked right from ball one. But Head was trapped plumb infront by Ravindra Jadeja just in the second over. Then Marnus Labuschagne and Khawaja played spin unbelievably well to take the team through to tea break without any further damage. However Labuschagne chopped one on to the stumps when he was at zero but Jadeja became the culprit for overstepping. India even burnt a couple of reviews in the urge of getting a breakthrough. A few overs later Ashwin trapped Labuschagne infront but Rohit Sharma wasn’t in favour of going upstairs. Even Rohit’s captaincy was way below par as he didn’t keep attacking field. Opting to bat first earlier in the day India were in deep waters from the get-go. However a couple of lucky reprieves for the Indian skipper in the first over didn't prove costly for the visitors. The Indian openers added 27 runs for the first wicket but once Rohit Sharma was out in an attempt to play a reckless shot in this rank turner the collapse began. India lost wickets in clusters and were at 84/7 at Lunch. Virat Kohli and Srikar Bharat did add a few handy runs but couldn't negate the spinners for a much longer period. Umesh Yadav smashed a couple of lusty blows on his comeback to steer the team over the score of 100 runs. Mohammed Siraj was the final man to bite the dust as a miscommunication between him and Axar Patel ended the Indian innings. For Australia Matthew Kuhnemann was the pick of the Aussie bowlers with the figures of 9-2-16-5 while Nathan Lyon picked three wickets. Usman Khawaja: "I played to my plans. Scored runs whenever there was a scoring opportunity. I was batting with Marnus good partnership to get. It was tough to bat with the new ball. Not an easy wicket to get runs. It was spinning out there. We will get to know better about the pitch tomorrow. It is hard to tell on Day 1. It was difficult time to bat throughout the time and we're not expecting to get any better. If that's how I can put it. I sweep on the length. If the line of an off-spinner goes down the leg then I sweep on the line. I used the sweep more intermittently. It is good to have the sweep in your arsenal. You keep guessing I tried to make the bowlers keep guessing as well. A bit of cat and mouse. It is dictated by the wicket. How the bowlers are bowling to you. The plan is always to score runs as long as you're there. I try to do that." Session Breakdown on day 1: Session 1: 84 runs 7 wickets 26 overs. Session 2: 96 runs 4 wickets 29.2 overs. The Indian openers provided a good start adding 70 for the first wicket when KL Rahul was dismissed by Khaled Ahmed for the second time in the match. Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara added 113 runs for the second wicket with Gill getting to his maiden Test century enroute. Pujara paced his innings quite well as the declaration was looming and got close to his own century eventually getting there in 130 deliveries his quickest in Tests so far and coming after a gap of almost 3 years and 51 innings. Virat Kohli finished unbeaten Pujara at 19 when the declaration was imposed. The Bangladeshi opening pair of Najmul Hossain Shanto (25*) and debutant Zakir Hasan (17*) have got a good and cautious start seeing off 12 overs from the Indian bowling attack. R Ashwin bowled the most overs in the 2nd innings followed by Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel. Star of the first innings Kuldeep and Umesh Yadav bowled one over apiece. The Indian team is at the top of this contest as chasing such a steep total on the last 2 day's won't be that easy and the Bangladeshis will have to bat out of their skins.
