It's the clash between two teams that are languishing at the bottom of the points table. Their play-off hopes are still alive though. The Stars have suffered the most due to the Covid crisis. The good news for them is nine players, having completed their isolation, have rejoined the team. Adam Zampa will be leading them in Maxwell's absence. Adelaide, on the other hand, ended their six-match losing streak with a convincing 7-wicket victory over Hobart Hurricanes. Earlier today, the Strikers confirmed that Matt Renshaw returned a positive PCR test for Covid-19 and will have to complete an isolation period. It's a big blow as Adelaide have relied heavily on their top-order. Who'll come out on top today? Stay tuned; bat-flip and team news coming up shortly.. eams: Adelaide Strikers (Playing XI): Matthew Short, Henry Hunt, Jake Weatherald, Jonathan Wells, Thomas Kelly, Ryan Gibson, Harry Nielsen(w), Rashid Khan, Harry Conway, Peter Siddle(c), Fawad Ahmed Melbourne Stars (Playing XI): Joe Clarke(w), Clint Hinchliffe, Nick Larkin, Joe Burns, Hilton Cartwright, Beau Webster, Xavier Crone, Qais Ahmad, Adam Zampa(c), Haris Rauf, Brody Couch

This game, much like their last scheduled fixture, looked in jeopardy until a few hours back with things going helter-skelter and, ultimately, were forced to find a few local replacements to make up a squad of 13. Sigh! Imagine being the Stars skipper, Glenn Maxwell, at the moment. He along with Joe Clarke, Hilton Cartwright and Brody Couch will be the only players from their last game, while their overseas signing Haris Rauf is all set replace Andre Russell. The Scorchers, though, have very little to worry about. Two of their key players - Inglis and Marsh - have been called up for National duties and they would be looking to bounce back after their first loss of the season last week. Toss and team news coming right up, stay tuned... The other Melbourne team - The Renegades - could not start their 2022, with their first game of the new year washed out yesterday. The Melbourne team playing today - The Stars - are in a bit of a muddle with 10 players currently Covid-19 positive. But, the organisers believe "the show must go on" so here we are. It is Melbourne Stars v Perth Scorchers from the Junction Oval, where the Stars desperately need to win against second-placed Scorchers to move up the points table. But it won't be easy since the Stars are missing too many key players, and have flown in late and new squad members over the last few days to ensure they have more than 11 available for selection. However, the Stars should not feel too demoralised. The Scorchers, too, are missing two key players due to Covid-19 and the duo of Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis are with the Australia Test team. So all in all - fairly even stevens although Scorchers still have a form-based advantage. Teams: Melbourne Stars (Playing XI): Joe Clarke(w), Thomas Rogers, Charlie Wakim, Glenn Maxwell(c), Hilton Cartwright, Justin Avendano, Tom O Connell, Qais Ahmad, Xavier Crone, Brody Couch, Haris Rauf Perth Scorchers (Playing XI): Kurtis Patterson, Cameron Bancroft(w), Colin Munro, Laurie Evans, Ashton Turner(c), Aaron Hardie, Ashton Agar, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Peter Hatzoglou, Tymal Mills Perth Scorchers have won the toss and have opted to bat

Hope you had a blast last night. It's the first day of 2022, and on that auspicious note, welcome to Cricbuzz's live coverage of this Big Bash contest as Sydney Sixers lock horns with the Melbourne Renegades in Coffs Harbour. One team is at the pinnacle in the points table, whereas the other team is languishing at the bottom, having lost five out of their six games. The Renegades have had a poor season to be honest and most of their losses have been by bigger margins, hence their net run rate (-1.758) is also the worst of all teams. On the other hand, Sixers have been unstoppable since the start of the tournament, where they bashed Melbourne Stars by a humongous margin of 152 runs. Given their present form, the Sydney Sixers are clearly the favourites to win tonight. Will Renegades manage to put up a better performance as compared to their previous games, or will they continue to disappoint their fans? We shall find that out soon, stay tuned for the toss and teams..
