KAWHI LEONARD'S Future with the San Antonio Spurs!
Kawhi Leonard has had one of the strangest seasons for a superstar in recent memory. A quad injury kept him out for almost the entire season. And even after the San Antonio Spurs medical team cleared him to play, he remained out. Many speculated that the relationship between Kawhi and the Spurs had broken down. But Danny Green and other players came forward and said nothing was wrong and that Kawhi was in contact with the playing group. This all comes at a time when Kawhi only has one year left before he enters free agency. The Spurs can offer him the 'supermax' a 5 year and 219 million dollar contract extension. But this will pose many problems for their front office. Do they give it to him now as an extension? Or wait until they see how he plays this season. If they wait they run the risk of him simply leaving in free agency. For this reason we could see the Spurs explore the possibility of trading him. Teams such as the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Los Angeles Lakers would simply have to listen to potential deals we could see Kawhi on a new team as early as next year. Listen to the whole video to hear my thoughts on what I think the Spurs should do.

Spurs hoping to offer Kawhi Leonard supermax contract of $219 million
Rumours of a rift between superstar Kawhi Leonard and the San Antonio Spurs may have been greatly exaggerated, or at least fixable with a large sum of money. The Spurs are trying to meet with Leonard and his reps in hopes of discussing a five-year $219-million contract extension according to Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News. Leonard will be eligible for the super-max after July 1. If he decides against it, the 26-year-old 2014 Finals MVP can hit the open market in 2019. San Antonio will be the only team however that can offer him the super-max. It's been a tough season for both Leonard and the Spurs as the two side have reportedly been at odds for months. ESPN reported back in January that there had been "months of discord" surrounding the star player's rehab on an injured right quadriceps. In March it was reported that Tony Parker led a players-only meeting to get Leonard back on the court. Leonard only ended up playing in nine games this season averaging 16.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.0 steals. If the Spurs can't find a way to keep Leonard in-house, there will be no shortage of suitor for his services.
Kawhi Leonard Rumors: Spurs May Offer A Supermax Contract, Will Only Trade For Blockbuster Offer
Kawhi Leonard only played in 9 games for the San Antonio Spurs last year, and the trade rumors continue to swirl around the star player. However, a recent report suggests the Spurs may offer Leonard a 5-year, $219 MM supermax contract. If he turns it down, the Spurs are expected to explore trade options. Hosts Cam Rogers and Harris Rubenstein break down the latest Kawhi Leonard rumors and explore potential trade partners on NBA Weekly. *** Subscribe to Chat Sports on YouTube: http://www.chatsports.com/YouTube *** One comparable situation is the Vince Carter vs. Toronto Raptors friction from back in the summer of 2004. Carter was eventually traded after tensions rose to a boiling point. The same scenario could happen between Kawhi Leonard and the Spurs.
