Sunisa Lee wins all-around gold! 🇺🇸 | Tokyo Replays
Suni Lee has kept the American streak alive. Coming into these Games, an American woman has won the women's gymnastics all-around title in each of the last five Olympic Games. She totaled 57.433 for gold, holding off Brazil's Rebeca Andrade (57.298) and ROC's Angelina Melnikova (57.199). Lee joins U.S. greats Mary Lou Retton (1984), Carly Patterson (2004), Nastia Liukin (2008), Gabby Douglas (2012) and Simone Biles (2016) as the only U.S. women to win the all-around title at the Olympic Games. Lee is the first Hmong American gymnast. Andrade's medal is the first for a South American woman in the women's all-around final. Prior to Thursday, the best finish by a Brazilian woman was Jade Barbosa's 10th place finish in 2008. _____________________________________________________ 👉 News from the Olympic world: https://oly.ch/Home 🔔 Subscribe & hit the bell: https://oly.ch/SubscribeGym 📺 Exclusive documentaries: https://oly.ch/Channel 🏃♀️ Replays from #Tokyo2020: https://oly.ch/Replays
Why the "wolf turn" is such a big deal
A deceptively difficult gymnastics turn. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO Every Summer Olympics, gymnasts amaze viewers by performing incredibly complex and dangerous skills. As these routines get more and more complicated, they become harder to top -- and the latest way to add value and distinguish a routine is the wolf turn. The wolf turn has actually been around for decades. But recently it’s become a favorite in balance beam and floor routines. A gymnast will get into a squat position with one leg stretched out. She’ll then stretch out her arms and wind them up. Once she finds her balance, she’ll start spinning. Finally, she’ll stop and return to her original stance. Seems pretty simple, but the movement relies on a delicate balance of mass and inertia. One wobble and things fall apart. Of course, there’s a reason gymnasts perform this delicate balance: points. The turn is used strategically because its relatively high difficulty level means judges value it more than a regular turn. 'There was a lot of time I wanted to quit': Sunisa Lee on winning gymnastics all-around gold
