Two nations. Two long waits. One massive occasion. Iraq are back at the World Cup for the first time since 1986 — 40 years in the making. The Lions of Mesopotamia arrive at Gillette Stadium having fought harder than any team to get here, playing 21 qualifying matches — more than any nation in the tournament. Under coach Graham Arnold, they've built something disciplined, something real. But tonight, they face Erling Haaland's World Cup debut. Norway return to the global stage for the first time since 1998 — and they've arrived with one of the most dangerous attacks in the tournament. Haaland. Ødegaard. A squad that won every single qualifying match and scored 37 goals doing it. The wait is over for both. But only one can start with three points. One nation ending a 28-year wait. Another writing their name into history for the very first time. Austria are back at the World Cup for the first time since 1998 — and under Ralf Rangnick, they arrive with a clear identity. High press. Collective intensity. A squad hungry to make their mark in a group that also features defending champions Argentina. Jordan step onto the World Cup stage for the very first time. Al-Nashama reached the 2023 Asian Cup Final, qualified unbeaten away from home, and scored 32 goals in the process — their highest ever in a single qualifying campaign. This moment didn't happen by accident. Santa Clara is the setting. Three points could define both campaigns. Watch it live on TOD: https://tod.go.link/75kEr Watch it live on TOD. Ørjan Nyland will start in goal, with Ryerson, Ajer, Heggem, and Møller Wolfe making up the back line. Compared to the rest of the squad, this is probably the weakest area of the team. In midfield, Sander Berge is a lock after starting 11 of Norway’s last 12 matches. Alongside him will be Patrick Berg and captain Martin Ødegaard, who helped Norway create more big chances than any other team in European qualifying. Antonio Nusa was a huge part of that as well, averaging over five successful dribbles per 90 during qualifying. He’ll start on the left, while Haaland is the obvious choice up front. The main debate is on the right. Oscar Bobb is an option, but so is Alexander Sørloth. Even though he’s naturally a striker, Norway have used him out wide before to get him and Haaland into the same lineup. How far do you think they can go? #soccer #football #Norway #WorldCup #Haaland
