This was the biggest event in basketball since Michael Jordan made his debut in 1984. Everyone was looking forward to seeing what this 18- year wonder kid could do straight out of high school. 2003 was coincidentally the year that Michael Jordan retired from the NBA, and the league needed another superstar to keep people interested in the game. Would the young Lebron be able to live up to the high expectations? Was he just another hyped kid that would fade away? The level of expectation and responsibility on James's young shoulders was unimaginable; he was expected to be the savior of the NBA. Everyone had to see how this newly proclaimed "god" of basketball would fare in his first game! When Lebron stepped on the court, everyone saw why he was so highly regarded. He looked totally at home and was not overawed by the moment. His first contribution to the NBA and the Cavaliers was a pinpoint assist that had everyone in the crowd cheering. He now needed to score his first points in the NBA……. (video editor, please insert something to create some suspense). It was widely believed at this early stage in Lebron's career that his jump shot was crap……. but guess what the young prodigy scored his first NBA points with the same jump shot!!!! This was his first shot on the road to greatness……. It was the start of James's long career of proving his doubters wrong by continuously working on his game and improving in every aspect of the game. This first jump shot also showed James' confident and competitive nature, which are hallmarks of all great players. James comfortably eased into the leader's role and was obviously the best Cavalier player on the court. In addition to providing assists, he had done a couple of incredible dunks, drives to the basket, and jumps shots. He ended the half with 12 points, six assists, three rebounds, and three steals. People honestly did not remember that this was his first game, young James already had the mannerism of a seasoned pro. So far, his game was perfect! LeBron's' dominant play continued in the second half with a maturity and game awareness that you just do not see from a rookie. By the time the game ended, James had tallied 25 points, nine assists, four rebounds, and four steals. He had displayed an all-around game that defied his age and separated him from his peers. There was no other player in the league at the time that was such a clinical scorer, yet unselfish and possessing the defensive game that James had. Everyone now saw for themselves that Lebron James belonged in the NBA and deserved all the hype that surrounded him. It was clear that he was a special talent, and it would be just a matter of time before he developed into the great player that everyone knew he would become. Proceeds from We R Ballers will go to Dankind Academy and the continuing efforts to develop the worlds most war-torn and newest nation as it struggles to emerge as an independent and prosperous nation.
