Debut de Shaquille O´Neal en partido oficial con la camiseta de los Lakers. También podría haber sido el debut en la NBA de un joven de 18 años recién cumplidos elegido en el puesto 13 del draft llamado Kobe Bryant, pero el técnico Del Harris todavía no le hizo debutar en este primer partido de la temporada. Aunque las cámars le enfocan varias veces a lo largo del partido puesto que ya había sospechas de que se podía convertir en un jugador importante, el hecho de que Jerry West hubiera mandado a Divac a Charlotte a cambio de sus derechos ya empezaba a dar pistas en aquellos momentos. El encuentro se disputaba en el mítico Forum de Inglewood y fue retransmitido por Canal Plus en diferido el sábado siguiente a su disputa por la mañana (en aquellos primeros años de Canal Plus con la NBA había un directo semanal y un diferido, que en la primera temporada era los viernes por la tarde, y en esta segunda pasó a los sábados por la mañana) con los comentarios del añorado Andrés Montes y de su inicial compañero en estas retransmisiones, Santiago Segurola. Por el equipo de la Fiebre Amarilla jugaron Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones, Cedric Ceballos, Elden Campbell, Shaquille O´Neal, Byron Scott, Derek Fisher, Corie Blount, Rumeal Robinson, Sean Rooks y Travis Knight. Por el equipo de Cotton Fitzsimmons, que había sufrido una profunda renovación tras el traspaso de Barkley a Houston, saltaron a la pista Sam Cassell, Wesley Person, Robert Horry, A.C. Green, Joe Kleine, Michael Finley, Danny Manning, Wayman Tisdale, Rex Chapman y durante unos pocos minutos un joven Steve Nash.

Shaquille O’Neal Says Damian Lillard Beef Was ‘Just For Fun’ … ------------------------------ Beef? What beef? A month after releasing a diss track aimed at fellow NBA star Damian Lillard, Shaquille O’Neal says he’s already moved on. “The thing that went on for me and him was just for fun,” Shaq declared at this week’s “NBA on TNT American Express Road Show” event in Los Angeles. “I think he’s really, really good and he’s very talented. We had fun.” O’Neal’s comments come a month after posting a song seemingly directed at Lillard, the Portland Trail Blazer-cum-rapper Dame D.O.L.L.A., who claimed in a recent interview that he had more flow than Shaq Fu. Lillard responded days later with his own diss track, titled “Reign Reign Go Away,” digging at Shaq with references to Kobe Bryant, Icy Hot and yes, his appearances on TNT; in an interview with Rolling Stone, Lillard said he penned “Reign Reign Go Away” in 45 minutes, and its follow-up diss track, “I Rest My Case,” in 20. But Shaq seems to have taken the back-and-forth in stride, if not exactly ready to back down. “We all come from the same place,” O’Neal says, diplomatically. “My thing is, if you say you’re better than me, I accept the challenge. If he says ‘I look better than you,’ then okay, I gotta hit the gym and work out; if he says ‘My shoes are whiter than yours,’ then I gotta go to the store and pick out a better pair. Other people take that stuff personally but I don’t,” he explains. “If you challenge me, I’ll step up to the challenge.” Though the feud appears to have simmered down, don’t expect Shaq and Lillard to get together and talk it out Taylor Swift and Katy Perry-style anytime soon. “We are competitors, we don’t pick people’s brains,” he says, adding: “[Lillard] doesn’t need my advice.” Lillard similarly told Rolling Stone, “My battle rap days are over.” The D.O.L.L.A.-dunking track Shaq posted to Instagram has already amassed almost 200,000 views, and it’s sparked renewed interest – whether intentionally or ironically – in the 47-year-old’s rap career.
