But under Sean Marks, the Nets were able to build their superteam through incredible contract moves that allowed them to free up a ton of cap space allowing major players to play for them. We are yet to see this team at its full capacity as injuries continue to plague them but it seems evident that this new Nets team is incredibly dominant. Looking at these 2 videos from Devin Booker and Chris Paul, you can understand a lot about the success of the Phoenix Suns this season, and how they won in a close game against the Utah Jazz last night. So let me show you just how unguardable these 2 can be. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. The strategy was putting Gobert in the pick and roll. Right here good screen by Ayton, Rudy doesn’t come out to contest, Booker raises up and knocks it down. And look at this setup for Chris Paul. The high screen, he accelerates, and Rudy has to drop to protect the basket. Paul stops on a dime, fires and scores. Having players who are 52.5 and 48.9% respectively from midrange is elite, so I guess that’s kind of like pick your poison type of situation. Either the big man is gonna commit to the switch and leave them room to blow by for the layup, or do it haphazardly like this where he’ll just show and wait for the main defender to recover, hoping that they’ll be on time, or that these 2 sharpshooters from the Suns are not gonna hit a lot their shots. Which last night wasn’t the case, as Booker exploded for 35 points, while Chris Paul was also great with 29 and 9 on 50% shooting. Classic point god. Look at this, after the screen, in this situation there is space for him so he fires up and swishes it. But when Gobert commits to him and fully switches, look at the laser pass in traffic to find the cutting Ayton. Amazing. And this was the story throughout the entire night. The entire season actually as Phoenix is firmly in the number 2 spot in the entire league right behind the Jazz. When you have CP3 on your team everything seems to click and players seem to get better. Devin Booker is one of the biggest beneficiaries of this mentorship and Chris was quick to give him credit after the game. One of the things that won’t show up in the boxscore for Devin is a play like this one. Doesn’t have to score to impact the game. Right here recognizes the opportunity, sets a back screen for Cam Johnson who is wide open and knocks down the three, a clutch basket late in the game to give the Suns a 5 point lead which they’ll ultimately be able to keep it to win this game. I promise that later on I will make a more detailed video about how both Book and this entire team as a whole have been able to completely turn things around from a losing franchise to a number 2 seed in 1 season, of course all of that because the point god himself. Chris Paul. As for the Jazz, while these 2 losses in a row don’t look the best, especially being from 2 potential playoff rivals in Phoenix and Dallas, I would like to say 1 thing. I love the fact that they have stayed competitive in both games despite shooting way below their average on threes, which has been their identity so far this season as the team with the most makes from downtown. They still got the shots they get so in my opinion it’s just a matter of getting back on track and continue to make them. After all, they were on a 9 game winning streak just before these 2 games, and they’re still the best team in the entire league, so I wouldn’t be too concerned at this moment if I’m Quin Snyder. But yeah, for all of you young hoopers- master the midrange and the pick and roll as you can see it can be an unstoppable weapon in your arsenal. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
What initially looks like a high pick and roll for Conley is actually a decoy, as Gobert is gonna run to the wing, to screen for one of the most dangerous offensive players for the Jazz. Jordan Clarkson curls, catches, fires and scores. Utah has been relying on Clarkson, running these picks up top for him to get 3 point looks, and because of his underrated speed and the quick release, he is always able to get it up, and deliver for his team. So with him being on fire this season, NBA players are praising him big time, and there’s even 1 superstar that said he wanted to be like him. Stick around to check out who it was. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Check out his sneakiness and speed. Right here he’ll curl past the handoff, before going skrrrt skrrrt on Curry, getting back to the ball, the screen, the shot and the bucket. This was just 1 of his 8 threes against Philly on the way to a 40 point night against the Sixers. That’s 40 points off the bench yall. Clarkson is the first reserve this season to score that many points. He was so hot that his teammates needed to cool him off after the game. WATER BOTTLE CLIP yhile you’re watching his phenomenally underrated floater package, let me just tell you that no water bottle showers are gonna cool him off this season, since Jordan is the leading scorer off the bench with 18 points per game. Those 18 points per game make him the second leading scorer on the top team in the league. For real, Clarkson is right behind Donovan Mitchell, all that while being a reserve. That’s how important he is to the Jazz and their wild success so far this year. Okay, so now that you’ve seen a lot of these floaters, let me share a staggering statistic. Dude is 62 out of 94 on these shots which is an incredible 66%. That’s crazy. Only centers who play under the basket can get that type of efficiency. I recently made a video about Immanuel Quickley, the guy who only shoots floaters. Well, I was surprised to find out that he’s got less made and at a lower percentage. Again, Jordan Clarkson’s floater game is 1) automatic and 2) suuuper underrated. Keep an eye on him for that throughout the rest of the season. Moving on, another thing that he’s great at is the post up. Clarkson is so smart with his dribble, not wasting time, going straight to the rim, a little bump, the half spin and the shot. Look at him knowing exactly where he wants to get. In the middle of the paint, and as he gets cut off, bumps, spins and scores. Jordan is relying more on this shot as this year he completely removed the midrange from his game, becoming a 3s and paint type of guy. While that can work for some, but not for others- with Clarkson it seems like it’s a recipe for success, as both the points are up, and the efficiency is there. And with all that the Jazz are getting from Jordan, the trust in him is high. And I mean, to the moon. Look at all these shots in transition. This may seem crazy to some of you, but he’s been making them. At 37% on very high attempts, that’s putting Utah at number 1 in the entire league in made threes, and number 3 in percentage. You understand how deadly of a combination that is right? Shoot a lot of threes, make a lot of threes is the dream scenario for any team. You know what’s the funniest thing about him tho? Jordan has a ton and I mean a ton of bombs right at the end of the shot clock as you can see in these few examples. And there’s a reason behind it which I’ll get to in a second. The team is actually looking for Clarkson if there’s nothing going on in the possession and they need a bailout shot. Look at this: As the shot clock is hitting single digits, look at Mike Conley not liking what he’s seeing as he signals right away for Ingles to just get the ball to Clarkson. And that’s exactly what happens, as Joe finds him, my guy immediately fires away and banks it in. Now check out the hilarious reason, and story that Jordan Clarkson told in a recent podcast. I started laughing immediately as I heard this. Dude is ready to get it up there in any situation and at any cost. Props to you for that. And speaking of the ultra green light that Jordan has, check out what a superstar of Dwyane Wade’s caliber had to say about him. To get such a high praise from a guy like D-Wade is awesome, but even his peers in the league are showing him mad respect as he is the clear favorite for the 6th man of the year award. When you look at the whole picture, it all makes sense. Highest scorer off the bench, efficient, and leading his team to the best record in the league. That’s amazing. As you look at the top 10 reserves, there’s no way that any of them has anywhere close to the combined success that Jordan is having so far this year. Charles Barkley even went as far as saying that Clarkson had a better season than Anthony Davis at the all star break and put him on his ballot.
Kevin Durant can score at will from anywhere on the court, but his midrange jumper is what vaulted him from being an elite scorer ...
#pistons #pacers #2004 Thanks for watching! Thumbs up, comment, share. - 2004 NBA Playoffs Eastern Conference Finals Indiana Pacers vs Detroit Pistons Full Series Defensive Highlights Baskets included in this video are ones in which the defensive play led directly to the transition/fast-break score. - The 2004 Eastern Conference Finals featured 2 mid-2000’s heavyweights whose styles of play exemplified the opposite of what today’s NBA advertises. It’s not a coincidence that the series included the current (at time) and previous season’s Defensive Player of the Year Award winners. The 03-04 campaign saw both Rick Carlisle’s league best 61-win Indiana Pacers and Larry Brown’s 54-win Detroit Pistons finish top 3 in defensive rating (points allowed per 100 possessions). Both squads also placed amidst the bottom 10 in pace (estimate number of possessions per 48 minutes). These metrics went hand in hand. Energy expended by prioritizing defense meant conservative slower paced efforts offensively. For the Pacers and Pistons, wasted offensive possessions were not the resultant of an aggressive, physical, no easy baskets, rebound treasuring approach. Detroit ranked 12th in turnovers per game, close to league average. Indiana placed 21st, quite impressive. The Pistons’ valuing of possessions is best reflected in their three-point attempts. Brown’s team finished the regular season 26th in that department, a tad under 12 per game. They had capable shooters, but were deliberate in not falling into that trap. Manufacturing quality opportunities inside the arc was more their nature. Utilized heavily was Rip’s midrange lethality, Chauncey’s ability to create downhill or size up smaller point guards, and the Wallace Bros’ bucket finishing aptitude down low. Designed to limit opponents offensively, both clubs were successful during the regular season. When challenged with the task of facing each other, one of the grimiest, most unattractive and deemed by many “hard to watch” playoff matchups in league history ensued. The highest point total in this series was 85. At least 1 of the team’s scored under 70 in 4 of the 6 games. And besides Rip’s 33 point outburst in game 5, not 1 player scored over 24. Statistically speaking, its peak level of defensive excellence came in game 2 when a combined 26 shot attempts were blocked, the most ever by two teams in a playoff game. Doc said it best mid-way through, “The guys are getting to the bucket, they’re making great plays, but the defense right now is better than the offense.” The series concluding game 6 totaled 134 points (69-65), the 2nd lowest combined playoff score since 1954. For the series, Detroit managed only 75.2 PPG while shooting an abysmal 37.3% from the field. Using basketballreference.com, I determined that both averages are the lowest among all winning teams of a 21st century playoff series (300 total series have been played since the 2000-01 season). Boston’s 83.0 PPG in their 2002 Semi-Final win against Detroit and Toronto’s 39.3% FG in their 2016 first round victory over Indiana rank 2nd in those respective statistical categories. The following list displays the 10 lowest FG% shot by the winning team of any 21st century playoff series: 1 - 37.3% (75.2p) - Pistons, 2004 ECF (6g) 2 - 39.3% (92.3p) - Raptors, 2016 R1 (7g) 3 - 39.5% (88.3p) - Pacers, 2005 R1 (7g) 4 - 39.6% (86.7p) - Pistons, 2004 R2 (7g) 5 - 39.9% (89.0p) - Kings, 2002 R1 (4g) 6 - 40.1% (90.1p) - 76ers, 2001 ECF (7g) 7 - 40.2% (98.0p) - Kings, 2001 R1 (4g) 8 - 40.3% (90.5p) - Spurs, 2003 R1 (6g) 9 - 40.5% (93.6p) - Grizzlies, 2013 R2 (5g) 10 - 40.7% (86.0p) - 76ers, 2012 R1 (6g) The 03-04 Pistons set and challenged all-time records during the regular season as well. They tied for the 3rd lowest opponent average since 1954, allowing just 84.26 PPG. Complimenting this was their stretch of 36 consecutive games in which they held opponents under 100 points, a record that is currently still unmatched. - All footage is property of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
