Australia v USA 12v12 - Battle of the Nations: Serbia 3/5/19
The Western Wolves are a medieval combat group based in Ballarat, Australia. We are an up and coming HMB (Historical Medieval Battle) team. We compete in full contact steel fighting using blunted steel weaponry and participate in various types of fights including; Buhurt (team fights), pro fighting (1 v 1 fights), weapon specific duelling, and All V All fights (royal rumble). We train weekly and run sessions for HMB and HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) at Kryal Castle. We host monthly demonstration fights at Kryal, participate in local tournaments such as the Goldfields Medieval Faire (March) as well as Timeline Festival (October). Our team also fight interstate and around the world and we are attending Battle of the Nations for the first time this year in Serbia. Our fighters will be representing Australia in the 12 v 12 and 150 v 150 battles as well as the sword and buckler pro fights. The IRONMAN 70.3 Switzerland in Rapperswil-Jona is known as one of the most spectator-friendly events across the entire IRONMAN European Tour with its consolidated event area and all locations within a short walking distance. The race boasts a 1.9k swim in the beautiful Upper Lake Zurich and a truncated bike course, which leads athletes along the lake shore and through picturesque villages. On the almost infinite descent from Goldingen back to the lake, athletes can relieve their tired legs, before the course leads them back to Rapperswil-Jona. The concluding half marathon takes the athletes through the medieval part of the city and along the lake shore and features the castle stairs with its 53 steps, famously known as the “Stairway to Heaven”.

Texas uses huge first quarter to exact revenge from Kansas AUSTIN - Revenge is not the purest motivator.Nor is it the most stable.Playing with that kind of raw emotion can leave the mind clouded and body burnt out.But when channeled properly it can make a fine, if ephemeral and highly combustible, fuel.Texas (5-5, 4-3 Big 12) might have burnt out too soon Saturday night, but its opening salvo proved enough to down error-prone Kansas (1-9, 0-7), 42-27, at Royal-Memorial Stadium.It took nine seconds for UT to get on the board.After recovering a game-opening onside kick inside Kansas territory, quarterback Shane Buechele dropped a 49-yard dime to Lorenzo Joe - who enjoyed a career day with five receptions for 98 yards - as he streaked past the coverage and over-the-top safety help.That play in and of itself was not reason to believe UT was playing with hate in its heart.That showed on the other side of the ball.On KU’s first possession safety Jason Hall speared Jayhawks quarterback Carter Stanley with the all the intensity of a medieval battering ram.Team physicians examined a sprawled Stanley as he struggled to suck in air.Later in the first quarter DeShon Elliott drove running back Khalil Herbert into the ground with such force it’s a wonder there wasn’t a man-sized silhouette embedded in the turf.That aggression did not always serve UT’s purposes though.Often enough, those punishing hits were counterbalanced by miscues borne of overzealousness and big-play hunting.Both of KU’s first half touchdown drives were helped by UT penalties.Stanley Sim’s five-yard scoring reception was aided by a horse-collar penalty and defensive pass interference call.A 12-play, 75-yard drive that ended in leaping end-zone grab by 6-foot-6 freshman Earl Bostick Jr.benefited from an illegal substitution penalty called on UT.And Kris Boyd’s fumbled kickoff return became the genesis of KU’s 36-yard field goal late in the second quarter, which cut UT’s lead to 28-17.Against another team, say West Virginia or Texas Tech, those mistakes might have cost Texas the game.It survived against Kansas because of its superior talent and the 28-7 first-quarter cushion that talent built.Senior Antwaun Davis turned in arguably the best performance of his career starting at nickelback in place of injured P.J.Locke (ankle).He had 16-yard pick-six in the first quarter, recovered a muffed punt at the Kansas 22-yard line, then intercepted Stanley in the end zone one drive later.All in the first half.In total UT’s defense forced four turnovers and recorded four sacks.Another unsung senior, Jason Hall, finished with six tackles, one sack and one interception.“This is a guy that needed to pass an ungodly amount of hours in the spring and summer to graduate, and he needed to graduate to be eligible to play this season,” coach Tom Herman said of Davis.“And he graduated and is playing really good…he’s filled in very well for P.J.“And then Jason Hall, that’s another product of P.J.going out, but it
Caminhos de Santiago de Compostela - Dia 1 Ponte de Lima - Cesantes
Mais um ano mais uma aventura Pedalar em Sintra, pelos Caminhos de Santiago! Ficou prometido em 2015, chegar a Santiago de Compostela e não ir a Finisterra… ficou a faltar algo. E a verdade é que ficou a faltar uma parte incrível do percurso. E foi este ano que o Orlando, o José Moutinho, o António, o Paulo Coelho e o Tó Coelho se fizeram ao Caminho para chegar a Finisterra, e desta vez sem a pesada mochila às costas pois contamos com o extraordinário apoio da Telma, da Dora, da Matilde e do Amigo Ranubis que infelizmente não podia pedalar connosco. Dia 1 Reunidos na Gare do Oriente começamos de autocarro até Ponte de Lima, onde as bicicletas já nos esperavam pois tinham ido de transporte especial, não é Ranubis? Um belo jantar e noite de descanso nos brindou a Quinta de Pentieiros. Dia 2 – Toca a começar a pedalar em direção à nossa linda cidade de Ponte de Lima, tínhamos pela frente 80Km com cerca de 1500m de acumulado até à cidade Espanhola de Redondela, com o petisco chamado Labruja logo pela manhã. Dia de bastante sol mas com temperatura muito agradável para pedalar. Deixando a medieval vila de Ponte de Lima pela sua ponte romano/gótica entramos num novo mundo, a subida da serra da Labruja onde encontramos os quilómetros mais cansativos de todo o primeiro dia Caminho. A meia encosta encontramos a Cruz dos Franceses, sinal que o mais difícil da subida está cumprido. Do alto da serra ao final da etapa ainda a faltam alguns km, em Rubiães a distância é fácil de percorrer e como sempre saboreamos uma bela sandes de presunto. Continuando o caminho pelo Vale do Rio Coura subimos suavemente até alcançar S. Bento da Porta Aberta, local de afamada romaria. Seguimos por entre campos e matas históricas até chegar à vila fortificada de Valença, que mereceu uma demorada visita desta cidade medieval e desta bonita muralha para a cidade de Tuy, coroada pela sua majestosa catedral… foi um pulo . Despedimo-nos de Portugal atravessando o Rio Minho pela sua ponte metálica e, já em Espanha, percorremos as ruas do burgo medieval de Tui até alcançar a sua famosa catedral. Seguimos pelo túnel do Convento das Clarissas e, já fora de muros, pelas igrejas de Santo Domingo e San Bartolomé. Depois de atravessar a ponte da Veiga chegamos a um dos troços mais bonitos do percurso, ou melhor chegamos eu e o Orlando, porque os outros abobrinhas decidiram ir conhecer a Zona Industrial… nós bem orientados pelo GPS fizemos o habitual desvio pelas lindas matas circundantes do Vale do Louro até entramos na cidade de Porriño onde nos voltámos a reunir todos. Fica a promessa de que voltarei… só para conhecer a zona industrial… hahahahhhhh. Pelo caminho passamos junto ao Pazo de Mós, Rua de Caballeros, Santiaguiño de Antas e Chan das Pipas. Aqui se inicia a íngreme descida que nos conduz Redondela. Texto de Tó Coelho.
