INDEPENDENCE, MO (Mar. 7) - Wichita jumped out a four-goal lead and never looked back in a 4-1 win on Saturday night over Kansas City at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. Stefan Fournier, Jason Salvaggio, Jay Dickman, Peter Crinella and Billy Exell each had two points while Dylan Wells stopped 35 shots he faced. The Thunder moves back into sixth place with the victory, one point ahead of the Mavericks. Wichita jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with goals from Salvaggio and Crinella. Salvaggio scored at 15:16 on the power play with a wrist shot from the left face-off dot. At 18:53, Crinella put home a rebound off a shot from Jay Dickman and made it 2-0. Just 33 seconds into the second, Crinella found Dickman cutting to the left post and he buried his first in a Thunder uniform to make it 3-0. Wichita added to the lead at 7:20 with its second power play tally of the evening. Fournier cut to the net up the left wing, got to the crease and popped it through Schneider. The play was reviewed by the officials, but the goal would stand. Mason Morelli broke up the shutout bid for Wells with a power play goal at 15:27. He whistled a wrist shot from the left circle over the short-side shoulder of Wells to make it 4-1. Despite being outshot 20-8 in the third, Wichita skated away with the victory. Wichita scored two power play goals for the second game in a row and has two or more power play tallies in three of the last four games. Fournier notched his 100th ECHL point and had an assist. Salvaggio has goals in three-straight, goals in four of his last five and power play markers in back-to-back games. Exell had a pair of helpers to extend his point-streak to four games.
How to work a goalkeeper ! Repositioning fast feet diving saves goalkeeping training coaching drills
Episode Fifty-Five: Footwork/Activation into the Diving Save With the goalkeeper starting in the centre of their goal position two markers/flat hoops 2-3 yards either side of them, both different colours. The idea is once a colour is called the goalkeeper is active and uses their footwork to place one foot into the area before changing direction to step and make the diving save. Attacking the ball is vital, highlight leading with both arms rather than using the nearest arm for a one handed save. Use short sharpe steps to change direction rather than running into position. This is a great warm up with lots of progression. I personally like to work low to high. • So I aim low ground kicks to allow the goalkeeper to work low saves. • I use under arm throws or bounce serves for medium height • Volleys to test their diving ability for high or top hand saves. Final progression can be a shooting scenario where the aim to test the previous work by trying to score with strikes, volleys and half volleys. These shots are still to one side of the goal. The Vancouver Canucks have defeated the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 in overtime, in a very wild and crazy game that ended up testing my fandom pretty hard. This game was a battle between two fiery teams, and certainly had me screaming both ways. Paul Byron kicks things off, followed by Shea Weber. Jordan Weal then gets the final marker for the Habs, as the Canucks respond with Bo Horvat, Alex Edler, Jake Virtanen, and eventually Tyler Toffoli in overtime. Thatcher Demko is the man who beats Carey Price in this one, as the Habs outshot the Canucks. Quinn Hughes had his moments, and so did Max Domi. However, the biggest thing I learned today is that the line of Elias Pettersson, J.T. Miller, and Tyler Toffoli is absolutely legit. MERALCO took care of one unfinished business. It now has all the time in the world to prepare for another, more pressing concern. With Allen Durham again getting the much-needed help from his teammates the Bolts outplayed the TNT KaTropa 89-78 Monday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo to advance to the finals of the PBA Governors' Cup. Durham had a near-triple double of 28 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists but the support from the likes of Chris Newsome, Bong Quinto and Allein Maliksi proved essential as Meralco wrapped up the best-of-five series 3-2. The Bolts now take on Barangay Ginebra in the best-of-seven championship series that starts Jan. 8 also at the Big Dome in a reprise of their similar 2016 and '17 titular showdowns which the Kings both won. Both protagonists would have liked to have had Chapter 3 last year, but Meralco got booted out by Alaska and Ginebra by eventual champion Magnolia Ang Pambansang Manok in the semifinals. "I feel like we really had everything thrown at us. But everybody was focused ... to get back to the championship round again," said an obviously relieved Bolts coach Norman Black. KJ McDaniels led everybody with 30 points and 13 rebounds and Bobby Ray Parks had his own double-double of 15 and 10. After their slow starts Jayson Castro and Troy Rosario also breached the double digit-barrier with 11 and 10, respectively. Roger Pogoy also had 10 points, but only two in the last three quarters in a performance that eerily mirrored that of TNT. After leading by 42-35 late in the second quarter, the KaTropa suddenly turned cold at about the same time the Bolts got hot, enabling the latter to wrest control right in the third period. Maliksi and Newsome were foremost among those who lent support to Durham in that stretch by combining for 13 points and complementing their import's 10 markers. Those were enough to give Meralco a 66-61 lead, but Quinto and Newsome were far from done. Quinto's career-high 19 points were highlighted by the eight points he strung up to start the fourth quarter that stretched the Bolts' lead before Newsome took over lacing his 23-point performance with back-to-back drives that pegged the game's biggest difference at 84-68. McDaniels, Castro and Rosario came up with some points in the stretch, but all they could do was narrow the gap somewhat. It is a sad season ending for TNT, which wound up second in the mid-season Commissioner's Cup and was hoping to at least book a return trip to the finals this time around. Following an 83-95 loss in Game 4 last Saturday, the KaTropa did make their expected adjustments with the most noteworthy being to start David Semerad as main matchup to Durham. The ploy did work, but only for a time.
