White 23 steals the ball and starts a to transition, ending it with a successful lay-up. Then a time-out is granted to the Black team. Article 25.2.1 A player who catches the ball while he is progressing, or upon completion of a dribble, may take two steps in coming to a stop, passing or shooting the ball. After receiving the ball, a player shall release the ball to start his dribble before his second step. Article 37.1.1 An unsportsmanlike foul is a player contact which, in the judgement of a referee is: An illegal contact caused by the player from behind or laterally on an opponent who is progressing towards the opponent’s basket and there are no other players between the progressing player, the ball and the basket. This applies until the offensive player begins his act of shooting. Outcome: Incorrect decision from the referees. White 23 gest the control of the ball with his right foot on the floor. Then he puts his left foot on the floor (first step) and then his right foot again (second step) before releasing the ball to start his dribble. This is a travelling violation. Then, the contact created by Black 22 on the dribbler was illegal and was committed before the dribbler gathered the ball to start his act of shooting. Thus, an unsportsmanlike foul should have been called to Black 22, cancel the basket and 2 free throws should have been awarded to White 23, followed by a White team throw-in from the throw-in line in their frontcourt and 14 seconds on the shot clock. This clip is a good example to insist on the importance of an active mindset of the referees, always looking for the illegal actions that could occur.

In the last minute of the game, White 3 secures a defensive rebound and starts the offensive transition. Blue 4 comes close to him and a contact occurs. The referees call a personal foul to Blue 4. Article 37.1.1 An unsportsmanlike foul is a player contact which, in the judgement of a referee is: An unnecessary contact caused by the defensive player in order to stop the progress of the offensive team in transition. Outcome: Incorrect decision from the referees. The illegal contact created by Blue 4 is an unnecessary contact in order to stop the progress of the White team in transition, so an unsportsmanlike foul should have been called. White 3 should have been awarded 2 free throws, followed by a White team throw-in at the throw-in line in their frontcourt and 14 seconds on the shot clock. According to the IRS rule, the following game situation may be reviewed: F.3.3 During any time of the game, whether a personal, unsportsmanlike or disqualifying foul met the criteria for such a foul or shall be upgraded or downgraded or shall be considered as a technical foul.

In this video, I want to discuss four changes Frank Lampard has to make to save his Chelsea managerial career and It’s a very simple question, then - what should Lampard do? I have some ideas. The Blues boss is under pressure after a run of one win in six games has seen his team slide down the standings. When trying to arrest a slump in form, the solution is often seen as seemingly quite simple if you’re an observer of football. “SCORE MORE GOALS” they might say. “CONCEDE fewer GOALS” they would undoubtedly add as well. Well, yes. Scoring more and conceding less will inevitably lead to better results but is it really that simple for Frank Lampard? Chelsea has lost four of their last six matches in the Premier League and has dropped down the standings to eighth, seven points off the top two having played a game more. The 3-1 reverse to Manchester City has set some alarm bells ringing, with the Blues comprehensively outplayed in the first half as they shipped three goals before the break courtesy of Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden and former Blue Kevin De Bruyne. Lampard admitted that it was a chastening experience for his players as they failed to react to the onslaught from Pep Guardiola’s side, playing without a recognised striker and ravaged by Covid-19 yet they still breezed their way to victory in west London. It’s a very simple question, then - what should Lampard do? We have some ideas. Pick players in the form The manager is being loyal to the likes of Timo Werner but the German is quite clearly struggling for confidence in front of goal. He was played through the middle by the manager on Sunday but it still didn’t look like clicking for Werner. Considering Lampard had a much more in-form striker on the bench in Olivier Giroud, who has banged in eight goals in his last eight games in all competitions, it was a surprise the Frenchman didn’t even get off the bench on Sunday, let alone start. Callum Hudson-Odoi was very unlucky not to start either after a decent couple of outings in previous games as Lampard brought back Hakim Ziyech after injury, a move that didn't pay off with the Moroccan understandably looking rusty. Lampard made a couple of errors with his starting eleven on Sunday and in the Premier League especially, it is time to reward those who have been playing well. Get the wingers scoring again Easier said than done, we know, as there isn’t much Lampard can do when his players cross the white line and take to the field. Hudson-Odoi’s goal against Manchester City was the first time a Blues winger has scored since the victory over Leeds, which was seven games ago. That encompasses Ziyech, Pulisic, Werner and Hudson-Odoi who have all played in wide positions since. Ziyech can be excused as he hasn’t played whatsoever through injury but the lack of goals outside of Giroud in recent weeks must be a concern for Lampard. Hudson-Odoi showed signs of life for the wingmen when he scored that very late consolation against City but the others need to find their shooting boots. Pulisic hasn’t scored since the Leeds game and has found the goal just once in the top flight all season. Build around a striker Being thrown in from the start was an error of judgement from Lampard, who should have stuck with Hudson-Odoi. Who knows how much of a difference it would have made, hindsight is a very wonderful thing. Lampard could well be minded to give Ziyech minutes against Morecambe in the FA Cup this weekend to try and get some more miles in the winger’s legs ahead of what is going to be a crucial run of games for the manager. But expecting the Moroccan to be the game-changer he was in the early going of the season is a bit too far-fetched. He needs to be eased back into action before we can see the Ziyech of early 2020/21. What do you think about my solution to the poor form of Chelsea players and Four changes Frank Lampard has to make to save his Chelsea managerial career, please kindly leave your opinion in the comment below. Near to the end of the fourth period, Blue 5 secures a rebound. Defender Yellow 10 creates a contact and the referees call a personal foul. As the Yellow team was already in team fouls penalty in that quarter, Yellow 10 was awarded 2 free throws. Article 37.1.1 An unsportsmanlike foul is a player contact which, in the judgement of a referee is: Contact with an opponent and not legitimately attempting to directly play the ball within the spirit and intent of the rules. Outcome: Incorrect decision from the referees. The contact created by Yellow 10 cannot be considered as legitimately attempting to directly play the ball within the spirit and intent of the rules and therefore an unsportsmanlike foul should have been called. Blue 5 should have been awarded 2 free throws with no line-up and the Blue team should have been awarded a throw-in from the throw-in line in their front court. The shot clock should have been switched off as fewer than 14 seconds were remaining to the end of the game.

During the rebound after an unsuccessful last free throw, Blue 32 pushes an opponent and the referee calls a personal foul. The referees decide to use the IRS to check if the foul should be upgraded to unsportsmanlike. After the review, the referees decide that the contact created by Blue 32 should be called as an unsportsmanlike foul. Appendix F 3.3 The following game situations may be reviewed: During any time of the game: whether a personal, unsportsmanlike or disqualifying foul met the criteria for such a foul or shall be upgraded or downgraded or shall be considered as a technical foul. Article 37.1.1 An unsportsmanlike foul is a player contact which, in the judgement of a referee is: Excessive, hard contact caused by a player in an effort to play the ball or an opponent. Outcome: Correct decision from the referees. The contact created by Blue 32 against White 17 met one of the 5 criteria to be considered an unsportsmanlike foul. White 17 shall attempt 2 free throws with no line-up and the White team shall be awarded a throw-in from the throw-in line in their front court and 14 seconds on the shot clock.
