The umpires draw the bails as stumps have been called on day 1 of the series opener at Nagpur. Team India have one hand on the contest as they first dismissed the Australians for a paltry 177 taking a little over 2 sessions and now have scored 77 runs for the loss of just 1 wicket trailing by 100 runs. KL Rahul was the only casualty as he was dismissed in the dying moments of the day by debutant Todd Murphy. Mohammed Siraj and Shami with the early strikes followed by a five-wicket haul from Ravindra Jadeja and 3 wickets from R Ashwin who became the second Indian to claim 450 Test wickets were helpful in bundling the visitors after India lost the toss early in the day. The Australian openers David Warner and Usman Khawaja scored just 1 run each and departed in the space of 6 balls. Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith the number 1 and 2 batters in the ICC Test rankings then put up a solid partnership of 82 runs for the third wicket only to be broken by Ravindra Jadeja who was well assisted by KS Bharat on debut. There were a couple of missed chances when Kohli failed to stick to a chance off Steve Smith's bat but it didn't cost the team too much as the former skipper soon departed for 37. Labuschagne was the top scorer with 49 runs. Alex Carey looked in good touch hitting 36 off just 33 balls adding 53 runs with Peter Handscomb who tried to hold the fort scoring 31 in 84 deliveries becoming the 9th Australian wicket to fall. There were 15 extras as not more than 4 visiting batters managed to score into double figures. Jadeja struck straightaway in his comeback Test. Rohit Sharma started with three boundaries in the first over bowled by his opposite number Pat Cummins and provided a good start to the team doing the bulk of the scoring getting to his 15th half-century in Test cricket. He is joined by Ravichandran Ashwin batting and is yet to get off the mark. Debutant Todd Murphy got Australia the only breakthrough taking a good return catch after the openers added 76 runs. Ravindra Jadeja (22-8-47-5): "The way I was bowling I was enjoying. Playing Test cricket after five months you know it is hard. I played First Class game after some time. I bowled 45 overs there and it helped me to come here and bowl. I looked to bowl into the stumps. I was looking to target the stumps. One ball was spinning and the odd ball was going straight. Yeah always I give credit to the ball but the interesting thing is whatever you take to be happy with that. I was in the NCA bowling 10-12 hours every day. Especially I was working on my rhythm. I think if you play after five months you need to be positive. I was not thinking about my injury but was trying to perform. I was looking to grab that opportunity." 1st Test Day 1 Match Summary Session by Session in Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium Nagpur Maharashtra Session Breakdown (1st Test Day 1): Session-1: 32 overs 76 runs - 2 wickets - Session-2: 28 overs 98 runs - 6 wickets - Session-3: 27.5 overs 80 runs - 3 wickets. India vs New Zealand 3rd T20 Live This Match Will be Played at Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad on 1st February 2023 This Match Will Start at 7.00pm From Indian Standard time. India and New Zealand will be playing against each other in the third and final match of the T20I series. After Ranchi and Lucknow the decider will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmedabad. After a horrendous ODI series New Zealand started the shorter formats with a win under their name. Batting first the fifties from Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell helped the Kiwis to post a total of 176 runs. India failed to chase it down despite valiant efforts from Suryakumar Yadav and Washington Sundar. The Men in Blue bounced back in the 2nd T20I after they managed to make a heavy weather of a paltry total. It was Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya who helped the side to go over the line by keeping their calm. While the visitors will be looking to redeem themselves from the ODI series against India the 'Men in Blue' will look to keep their record intact. Team news India: The hosts left out Umran Malik for a second spinner in Yuzvendra Chahal and the pitch again will dictate that decision. Team news New Zealand: The visitors have played the same side on what were slightly different surfaces and they are unlikely to make any change for the decider. While the pitch in Ranchi left Hardik Pandya "surprised" the India captain was "shocked" by what was on offer in Lucknow. And when the talk is largely about the playing surface ahead of a series decider especially with India's proud record of 12 undefeated home series on the line something's got to give. Ahmedabad the venue for the third and final T20I between India and New Zealand has had its fair share of debate around pitches in the past. And the last thing both teams would want is another tricky T20 surface that sees Lockie Ferguson bowl as many overs as Mark Chapman; or Deepak Hooda twice as many as Yuzvendra Chahal. Pitch aside India will know that there's work to be done especially with a young side that's trying to ready itself for 2024. After a breezy ODI whitewash the T20I rubber hasn't been as easy for the hosts. While the death bowling cost them in Ranchi their batting was under the scanner two days later; India got past a target of 100 with only a ball to spare. But the challenging conditions stole the thunder away hardly allowing the team to assess their progress. For example Arshdeep Singh bowled the 20th over again after copping some heat in the first T20I but that he was up against a team limping at 94/8 hardly lent credibility to his five-run last over. For New Zealand this is a great opportunity. They are without a host of their frontline players like Trent Boult Kane Williamson and Tim Southee and are in with a shot to beat India in a T20I series at home - the bragging rights for which has belonged only to Australia and West Indies in the last eight years. For Mitchell Santner's team that will be a great shot in the arm and expect the side to mount a good challenge for the hosts pitch permitting of course. What to expect: A nervous curator. And a fair few cheers for Hardik Pandya the Gujarat Titans captain who is also leading the India T20I side now. Like most Indian grounds teams have preferred to bat second here but in the last couple of games here against England India showed that it is in fact possible to defend targets here. That said those games were played in March; this one could see some fair amount of dew though. It will be interesting to see what pitch the match is played on (Ahmedabad has both red and black soil pitches) but expect the venue to be buzzing again with capacity crowds. Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow is all set to witness an electrifying encounter between India and New Zealand in the second T20 match of the series. The Black Caps lead the series 1-0 and will be keen to extend their advantage while the hosts will be looking to bounce back and level the series. Washington Sundar was the standout performer for India in the last match scoring a quick-fire 50 and taking two wickets for only 22 runs. The Indian openers had a forgettable outing in the last match and will be under scrutiny once again. The openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan will need to step up and provide a solid start. Skipper Hardik Pandya who scored 21 runs in the last match will look to make a significant contribution with the bat. The Indian pace attack will be looking to improve their performance after leaking runs in the last match. With the series on the line both teams will be eager to come out all guns blazing and put on a show for the fans. The Indian team will be looking to make a statement and bounce back after their loss in Ranchi while New Zealand will aim to continue their winning momentum and seal the series. The stage is set for a thrilling encounter and cricket lovers are in for a treat. Fact: Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow has hosted a total of 5 T20Is till now and the team batting first have won all of the 5 matches. So don't get surprised if the toss-winning team opts to bat first at this venue. Hardik Pandya (India Captain): "Yeah we were also thinking to bat first but yeah bowling is also fine. Looking forward to this game there can't be anything more challenging in a bilateral series. We will make errors and we will grow from them. We have one change today Yuzi comes in for Umran." Mitchell Santner (New Zealand Captain): "We will bat first. The stats say that chasing is challenging here. It was nice to bounce back after a tough One Day series. Different guys stepping up at different times. It's never easy to beat India at home. There were times when we thought we were ahead of the game but they bounced back with the partnership between Surya and Hardik. The boundaries here are big and nice for a spinner. We are going with the same team." Pitch Report (Danny Morrison & Ajit Agarkar): "One of the bigger grounds in India. 77m today for the straight hit 69m square on one side 67m on the other. It has a garish appearance. It has red dirt similar to Mumbai. The hitter won't have time if there is grip or movement off the pitch since it will happen quickly. An acceptable pitch. If there isn't any dew it could be challenging to bat on this wicket for the team batting second." Audio Content Disclaimer For This Content This is self-created content and not copied content. India vs New Zealand 1st T20 Live This Match Will be Played at JSCA International Stadium Complex Ranchi on 27th January 2023 This Match Will Start at 7.00pm From Indian Standard time. The match is scheduled at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. India will be without their two stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Also with Jasprit Bumrah missing Hardik Pandya will again have a young seam bowling unit to lead in the series. However despite the key players' absence team India looks rock-solid studded with the likes of Suryakumar Yadav Shubman Gill Ishan Kishan Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh. It will also be interesting to see if Prithvi Shaw makes his much-awaited international comeback in the very first game. He will fight a virtual contest with Gill Ishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad for an opening slot in the playing XI. This series will also give the much-needed opportunities to Rahul Tripathi and Deepak Hooda to upgrade their status from fringe players to regulars in the shortest format. The visitors will look to erase the scars of the ODI series and start the T20Is on a winning note. But their journey won't be easy as they will miss ace pacers Tim Southee and Trent Boult. So the onus will be on their batting unit comprising Finn Allen Devon Conway Glenn Phillips Daryl Mitchell and the sensational Michael Bracewell. It will also be a litmus test for Mitchell Santner who besides batting and bowling will have the additional responsibility of leadership. Lockie Ferguson who was abysmal in the ODIs must perform as the leader of the bowling attack by not only putting up impressive performances but also guiding the young guns like Henry Shipley Jacob Duffy and Blair Tickner. So who will win? Team News New Zealand: After impressing in the ODI series Michael Bracewell will be a shoo-in for the T20Is. Ben Lister could be making his debut. Team News India: Ruturaj Gaikwad stands ruled out of the series with wrist pain/injury but India haven't asked for a replacement. They are likely to stick with the opening pair of Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill which served them well recently against Sri Lanka. There's also Prithvi Shaw in the squad this time having forced his way back with the sheer weight of runs at the domestic level and how India try and bring him into the scheme of things will be something to keep an eye on. There's no Harshal Patel this time around and the returning Kuldeep Yadav could challenge Yuzvendra Chahal's spot. What to expect: A whole lot of MS Dhoni t-shirts in the stands. Only three T20 Internationals have been hosted at this ground with the last one being a rematch between India and NZ here in 2021. Tim Southee and Harshal Patel's cutters headlined the slow pitch on that occasion but India have played on much better pitches this season and something similar could be expected in Ranchi. Watch out for the big boundaries at this venue. Pitch Report: The pitch at Ranchi's JSCA International Stadium Complex offers a balanced surface in T20 cricket. The average first innings score here is 133 but India easily chased a 154-run target against Kiwis in the last T20I game played here. India vs New Zealand 3rd ODI Live This Match Will be Played at Holkar Cricket Stadium Indore on 24th January 2023 This Match Will Start at 1.30pm From Indian Standard time. Having won the first two games India have already clinched the series. After sealing a narrow 12-run victory in the first match in Hyderabad the hosts discovered their vintage best to demolish the Blackcaps by eight wickets in the second fixture in Raipur. While Mohammed Shami answered his critics brilliantly Rohit Sharma unleashed himself to demoralize the visitors in the second half. However their only concern is Virat Kohli who is yet to fire in the series. So moving on to this game the Men in Blue would like the talismanic batter to regain his touch as they will enter the field to ensure a clean sweep. On the other hand New Zealand have had a forgettable tour so far. Despite Michael Bracewell's sensational knock they fell 12 runs short of the target in Hyderabad. However the Kiwis were a pale shadow of themselves in Raipur as they surrendered to the rampant Indian bowling unit. Importantly if we remove Bracewell's hundred none of the Kiwi batters has had an impact in the series. Their bowling has been equally woeful as Lockie Ferguson Henry Shipley and Blair Tickner have failed miserably to keep the Indians on their toes. So if they want to change their fortunes they must regroup and play with a nothing to lose approach in this clash. So who will win? Now that India have already secured the series the focus on the final ODI appears to dwindle with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on the horizon. However when the game does eventually get underway things might change given it is set to be played in Indore - a venue that has gained reputation for being a batting beauty and is now set to host some elite stroke-makers. Just over three months ago South Africa and India played out a T20I in which Rilee Rossouw smashed a 48-ball 100. In total the ball sailed over the ropes 27 times on that night. Can that be replicated? Or even be topped given this is a 50-over contest? One cannot rule that out given both teams scored over 300 in both the innings in the first ODI. More importantly the visitors would hope for a better batting display from their top order that hasn't fired so far in the series. Finn Allen is yet to make a mark in the ODI format. Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell have been amongst the runs but didn't make an impression in these two games. Henry Nicholls hasn't done himself any favours as well in place of Kane Williamson. They probably won't get a better opportunity to get back amongst the runs despite the fact that their confidence would have been shaken after the second game. There's also a T20I series that's coming up so a good showing here will keep them in good stead ahead of those three games. Team News India: Will Rajat Patidar get a game? Seems unlikely. The batting order for India might remain unchanged. Umran Malik might get a go in place of either Mohammed Siraj or Mohammed Shami. Team News New Zealand: Will New Zealand throw in Jacob Duffy and Doug Bracewell straightaway on a batting paradise having not given them a game so far? What to expect: Clear skies are expected on match day. It's been more than five years since Indore hosted a 50-over contest. India easily chased down a 290-plus target in that contest against Australia. Audio Content Disclaimer For This Content This is self-created content and not copied content. India vs New Zealand 2nd ODI Live This Match Will be Played at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium Raipur on 21st January 2023 This Match Will Start at 1.30pm From Indian Standard time. This game holds significant importance for the Kiwis as a loss here will hand them a series defeat. Although India won the first game they must be disappointed with how they bowled in the latter half of the New Zealand innings. Despite reducing the visitors to 131 for six the Men in Blue allowed Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell to stitch a mammoth 162-run stand for the seventh wicket. As expected Mohammed Siraj and Kuldeep Yadav were clinical but the other Indian bowlers especially Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya didn't live up to the expectations. On the batting front Virat Kohli must be raring to make his mark in the series while Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav should focus on converting their starts into match-winning knocks. On the other hand Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell were the only positives for New Zealand in the first game. While the Kiwi bowling unit looked in absolute shambles their batters barring Finn Allen succumbed to the scoreboard pressure. So moving on to this game the visitors must regroup and work on their grey areas to restore parity in the series. With the series at stake the likes of Devon Conway Tom Latham and Lockie Ferguson must take ownership and inspire the younger lots to come up with influential returns in this face-off. So can the visitors restore parity? India and New Zealand put on a show in Hyderabad in the opening ODI of the series where the visitors staged a dramatic comeback to almost pull off a heist. As much as it's hard to replicate it in the very next game Raipur would absolutely wish for something closer to that as they brace themselves to host their first-ever international match. Playing host to an epic game would help them in their bid to secure more international matches in the future going ahead which could turn out to be a spectacle given the stadium can accommodate over 60000 people. While another trophy is now within their grasp India's major focus will continue to be on building the ideal side for the World Cup. In the absence of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer the team management would hope the likes of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav get more time out in the middle. As things stand these two appear to be the backup for the top five. Unless they grab their opportunities that scenario might change by the time the World Cup gets closer. Not often do batters follow up a double-century with another big knock. Can Shubman Gill break that trend? You wouldn't count that against him given his last three scores prior to the double ton are 116 21 and 70. While the batting lineup does look extremely strong at the moment India's focus will be on their bowlers. A few days ago they allowed Dasun Shanaka to score big while rallying alongside the tail. And in Hyderabad they were again on top at one stage but couldn't get that decisive wicket for a long time which would have put them in the driver's seat. Team News India: Rajat Patidar might have to wait as the hosts will look to stick to the same combination. Shardul Thakur gives India a handy batting option at No.8 so Umran Malik won't find it easy to force his way back in. Team News New Zealand: The visitors might stick with the same XI as well. At the most a change might be in store in the bowling department. What to expect: No rain is expected during the game with moderate temperatures set to welcome both sides. The surface will carry a bit of mystery given the venue hasn't hosted international cricket yet. Audio Content Disclaimer For This Content This is self-created content and not copied content. The face-off is scheduled at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. After a shocking 2-1 defeat to Bangladesh last year India got off to a remarkable start in 2023 whitewashing Sri Lanka by 3-0 on home soil. While the stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli rediscovered their vintage best youngster Shubman Gill proved why he is regarded as the next big thing in Indian cricket. However the two biggest positives for the Men in Blue were the evolution of Mohammed Siraj as a force in the powerplay and Kuldeep Yadav's redemption. Meanwhile KL Rahul's absence has posed a massive challenge for Ishan Kishan as he will likely bat in the middle-order in the series. Also it will be interesting to see if Shardul Thakur justifies his selection as it will be a litmus test for India's comeback man to prove his mettle with bat and ball. Like their opponents New Zealand is coming on the back of a historic series win over Pakistan. But replicating the same in India will be more challenging for the Blackcaps as they will miss their two key players Kane Williamson and Tim Southee. So the onus will be on Tom Latham who has enjoyed stellar success against India in ODIs. Additionally the likes of Henry Nicholls Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips are capable of winning the game on any given day. Although the Kiwis have come up with a solid spin unit studded with Ish Sodhi Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell their pace battery looks slightly off-colour on paper. So it will be fascinating to see how their seamers fare against India's formidable batting unit in the series. So can the visitors surprise the hosts? Team News India: There's no update on Yuzvendra Chahal's shoulder injury he sustained while diving in the first ODI against Sri Lanka which has now kept him out for two straight games. Axar's absence will allow India to try out Washington Sundar for an extended period in that no.7 slot. Shardul Thakur may get a look in at some point in the series maybe ahead of Umran Malik who picked up key middle-overs wickets but bowled at an economy of more than 6.8 in both games against Sri Lanka and was rested for the third. Team News New Zealand: Henry Nicholls could be the front-runner to replace Williamson in the XI from their last game while in the bowling department the toss up would be between the returning medium-pace allrounder Dough Bracewell or Blair Tickner. All three last played for New Zealand between April-July 2022. What to expect: Clear blue skies a sunny afternoon and no chances of rain interruption whatsoever. Series conceded 2-0 Sri Lanka will have pride to play for in the third and final ODI against India in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday (January 15). While there are no Super League points at stake in this inconsequential clash Sri Lanka do have a one final shot at automatic qualification for the 2023 World Cup later in India when they take on New Zealand at home and a win before that would do their confidence a world of good. On the other hand the World Cup hosts have a packed multi-format home season ahead with at least 12 more ODIs and an Asia Cup to go after this and the players' workload would be on the management's mind. "We haven't thought about it yet once we get there we'll have a look at the pitch and have a look at some of our guys" captain Rohit Sharma said at the Eden Gardens on the expected changes for the final game of the series. "There are three ODIs coming up against New Zealand as well so we need to keep the guys fresh. We've got a long season now and we need to keep everything in mind. If needed we'll make some changes" he added. If not in the batting-order - where the team management has backed Shubman Gill and a recently-demoted vice-captain KL Rahul despite the red-hot form of Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav in white-ball cricket - India could ring in some changes in the bowling department to manage the bowlers' workload. The only left-arm pacer in the squad Arshdeep Singh could get a look in as India seek to test their bench strength in the lead up to their World Cup preparations. The focus would once again be on Kuldeep Yadav who bowled superbly in Kolkata but may find himself sidelined once again after yet another Player of the Match performance - like in Bangladesh in the recently-concluded Test series - should India's first-choice wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal recover fully. After a complete performance in Guwahati and a hard-fought win in Kolkata India have an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Ahead of taking on a stiffer opposition in New Zealand just next week the hosts wouldn't want to let their guard down even in the dead rubber. India have been clinical with both bat and ball so far. However the biggest positive for India has been their bowling unit. So moving on to this clash the Men in Blue are high on confidence to accomplish a whitewash over the visitors. On the other hand Sri Lanka have been patchy with both bat and ball which has led to their debacle in the series. Team News India: Injury kept Chahal out of the second ODI in Kolkata and it's unclear yet if he has recovered sufficiently to return to the XI. At the end of the game Rohit mentioned the need to manage players workload and that could translate into a chance for some of them on the bench. Team News Sri Lanka: The visitors too have injury concerns in their camp and are fretting over the fitness of Dilshan Madushanka (shoulder injury) and Pathum Nissanka (stiff back). What to expect: A bit of clouds but no interruption is expected for the game day. The dew should make chasing the preferred choice of captains. Pacers do get assistance at the venue but the batters will also enjoy the shorter boundaries here. Audio Content Disclaimer For This Content This is self-created content and not copied content.
