Both Bumrah and Prasidh had pretty good outings in the opening game on Friday (August 18). In fact, Bumrah took just two balls to strike and ended up picking two wickets in his very first over and Prasidh struck in his first over as well. Both the pacers will be looking to carry forward that momentum as they look to get back to their best after long layoffs. However, the batters would now hope for some much-needed time out in the middle as well after rain hampered their chances in the first T20I. Chasing a modest 140, India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma before rain arrived and ruined any chances of the rest getting a hit out in the middle. The next two games are definitely vital for the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube. While Samson needs runs to ensure he remains in the reckoning for a spot in the ODI World Cup, the likes of Gaikwad, Rinku and Dube will be looking to make an impression to ensure they are considered in future T20 fixtures on the road to the World Cup next year in the Caribbean. For Ireland, it's vital that they don't go 2-0 down already with a game to spare especially against a second-string visiting side. They did exceedingly well to get to 139 after losing half their side for just 31. Barry McCarthy stunned India with a quickfire fifty but it's the top order that needs to come to the party if Ireland are to put up a fight with the bat. The caravan has now moved on to Lauderhill in the USA for the final two games. After losing a couple of closely-fought games the Men in Blue put in a dominant performance in the previous game to keep the series alive. India’s talisman in this format Suryakumar Yadav soared high and played a blistering knock to help his side coast home. That's a strong finish from Odean Smith as the flexing of muscle helps him gain a six. The Windies end up with 178 runs on the board for the loss of eight wickets despite being in a nervy situation halfway through the innings. 57 runs have been belted away in the last five overs by the Windies batters. A six in the first over from Kyle Mayers was a compliment to the disdain character that the nature of the pitch inherited in Florida during the first innings today. Although Mayers' sparkle didn't last long as the introduction of Arshdeep Singh acted as the resistance to his flow. In the left-arm pacer's second over within the powerplay he also removed the other opener- Brandon King who was looking to accelerate. The home side could manage to gather 55 runs from the powerplay for the loss of two wickets. Nicholas Pooran was the one who arrived at the stage alongside Shai Hope and then the spectators got to witness a double strike in the 7th over. It was the Kuldeep Yadav enchantment that got the better of Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell in the same over. All of a sudden a good start was curtailed down to a tricky 57-4 as the scoreboard read. Shai Hope: "Yeah I thought we started well. We can speak on all possibilities. But we didn't do well in the middle. Good innings from Hettie (Hetmyer) and it was a good finish in the end. Probably 10 runs short. They bowled decently we lost a few wickets in the middle. Hetmyer came in and played positively from the get-go giving me some breathing space. Obviously want to go and go on to get a big one. But it's what it is. I always wanted to play the format and contribute to West Indies. Today got the opportunity and I thought I was doing well. You always think that you have enough. But it's cricket anything can happen. Hopefully we can defend this." With India keen on experimenting keeping in mind the 2024 T20 World Cup Umran Malik can get a look in today. On the other hand West Indies have a chance to seal the series today with a game in hand. They had defeated South Africa 2-1 in their last T20I series in March this year. If they are able to win this series it would be their first back-to-back T20I series win since 2017. Coming to their playing XI if Jason Holder is fit he is likely to replace Roston Chase. Would they think of bringing in Hope in place of Charles due to the latter’s lean patch? In Lauderhill the hosts have a poor record against India having lost four won one being washed out. pitches here usually conducive strokeplay a high-scoring affair might cards. Pooran vs Kuldeep T20s 7 innings 41 runs 4 dismissals SR 95.34. Shimron Hetmyer steps up when it mattered. Some hard work for Hetty and now one can expect some whacking in the remaining few balls that he face. A half-century for the Guyanese star. India vs West Indies 3rd T20 Live This Match Will be Played at Providence Stadium Guyana on 8th August 2023 This Match Will Start at 8.00pm From Indian Standard time. The home team West Indies surprised everyone by winning the opening two games and have a great chance now to seal a rare series win against India. It's a do-or-die game for India so expect another intense contest with lot at stakes for both the teams. West Indies have played like a unit in this T20I series been missing from their game for quite a long time now. Nicholas Pooran has been the standout batter while Rovman Powell has also batted well. Windies bat deep and have plenty of match-winners like Kyle Mayers Hetmyer in their arsenal which makes them a dangerous unit. On the bowling front too there are plenty of bowling options and all of them have been pretty disciplined in this series so far. the second T20I with some careless cricket at the backend and that is something they need to be vary of. Expect West Indies to come out all guns blazing again. India on the other hand need their batters to step up. They struggled big time on a slow wicket and apart from Tilak Varma other batters could not show any application. the top order as a whole has not fired and that is a worry for India. We might also see a Yashasvi Jaiswal debut in place of Gill who has played non-stop cricket recently and has struggled in this T20I series. Also it is high time a player of the caliber of Samson joins the party which could go a long way in India putting up a big total on the board. On the bowling front Yuzvendra Chahal has been fantastic to say the least but there is a possibility of Umran Malik of Avesh Khan coming in for Mukesh Kumar. It is a must-win game for this young Indian side and it is a test of character for Hardik Pandya and his boys. Let's see how things pan out. The eternal dilemma with Indian cricket in recent times has been regarding the balance between long-term planning and short-term results. During their ODI World Cup win in 2019 and the T20 title victory in 2022 England showed the benefits of having a vision without compromising on results. It is a template that the Indian team is still far away from cracking as they look to transition towards a phase beyond the Virat Kohli's and Rohit Sharma's. In that aspect the ongoing white-ball leg of the West Indies tour hasn't gone to plan for Hardik Pandya's men. They did win the ODI series but were stretched considerably and have now lost two T20Is in a row against West Indies for the first time since 2016. The fact that this has come at a time when the Caribbean side has been at arguably its lowest in terms of morale and squad strength makes the picture a lot worse for the Indian team. However like with anything there are pros and cons. The results haven't come as yet but India have been able to give game time to the likes of Tilak Varma (who has impressed straightaway) and Sanju Samson (who is yet to come to the party) as viable middle-order options. Mukesh Bishnoi and Ishan Kishan are the others who have gotten opportunities to be in the mix. With the T20 World Cup next year scheduled to be in West Indies and USA. What to expect: Another spin-friendly surface is expected at Guyana with variable bounce also expected to play a part. The forecast for the week is for rain in Guyana and this could be another key factor in the game. Being 2-0 up in the series is a position of strength for the hosts and they're unlikely to tinker with their playing XI. With two losses on the bounce change is inevitable and Jaiswal could finally get a spot in the XI. In such a scenario Samson might the one missing out. India vs West Indies 1st T20 Live This Match Will be Played at Brian Lara Stadium Tarouba Trinidad on 3rd August 2023 This Match Will Start at 8.00pm From Indian Standard time. The venue for the first game is Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Tarouba Trinidad and India would be hoping to dominate the proceedings like they did in the final ODI at the same venue couple of days back. West Indies though have some quality T20 superstars and we can expect a close intense affair. Rovman Powell will lead West Indies in T20Is and he would be looking to get back into some form after a torrid run in recent past. Along with him West Indies have powerful batters like Kyle Mayers Charles Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran who would be itching to translate his Major League Cricket form in international cricket. Hope and Holder are also back in the T20 setup while the bowling too looks pretty good with Akeal Hosein and Obed McCoy back in the mix. Expect Windies to give India a tough fight. India on the other hand have plenty of players who will be itching to prove a point at the international level. They might rest Shubman Gill and hand Yashasvi Jaiswal his debut in T20Is while Tilak Varma could also make his debut. The presence of Samson Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya make India a dangerous batting unit. Yuzvendra Chahal might finally get a game on this tour while Arshdeep Singh would add more strength to a young Indian pace attack. Can West Indies stop a rampant Indian unit and take a 1-0 lead in this T20I series? We shall find out. Suryakumar Yadav is a key member in the T20I team and he'll be hoping to get himself going in a format which has worked out well for him after an average showing in the ODI series. Umran Malik will be keen to find his rhythm and put the West Indian batters in a spot having not been at his best in the 50-over games. Meanwhile Mukesh Kumar after showcasing his skills in the Test and ODI formats in his maiden series for India will look to make a mark in the T20I format too if he is handed a debut. India have a plethora of spin options and it remains to be seen who among them get the nod. The West Indies side have plenty of quality players in their line-up but this will again be a fresh start for them after their poor showing in the T20 World Cup in Australia last year. They did win 2-1 against South Africa earlier this year and will be hoping to reflect on those performances as they look to challenge India who are starting a new journey of their own as the old guard makes way for new if the recent selections are anything to go by. What to expect: In the last match at this venue India scored 350-plus batting first in the third ODI and a similar batting-friendly wicket could be on offer. Will India rest Shubman Gill and give Jaiswal an opportunity at the top of the order to partner Ishan Kishan or play the former at No.3? Tilak or Sanju Samson for the middle order? Who among three wrist spin options and which pacer to leave out? set the ball rolling in terms of preparations for the next year's T20 World Cup which will be held in the Caribbean and the United States. Plenty of selection headaches for captain Hardik Pandya and the team management. Nicholas Pooran who missed the ODI series owing to his participation in Major League Cricket returns to the T20I side fresh off a match-winning 137 not out. The presence of Shimron Hetmyer and Shai Hope lend heft to the setup as does the return of Oshane Thomas to the pace department. who have played for India before but have gone off the radar a bit will be hoping to make the most of the platform. Since they currently have nothing to prove the others should have opportunities to secure positions in Nos. 4 and 5. All of these are part of getting ready for the ODI World Cup which will be held at home later this year. However the outcome in Bridgetown with all respect to a tremendous West Indies comeback was a complete letdown. Now that the decider is about to take center stage Rohit and Kohli are both anticipated to be called back for the big game on Tuesday (August 1) in order to prevent a humiliating series loss. One should stand up and give the West Indies credit for their cohesive effort in their convincing victory in the second ODI. The first game of the series in which they were dismissed for 114 in just 23 overs seemed to be a case of "Men against Boys even though Rohit and Kohli did not really have much to offer. The Caribbean outfit realized their mistakes and brought Joseph and Carty back and both of them chipped in with valuable contributions to level the series. They are therefore unlikely to alter the lineup that helped them win their first match against India in three years. Contrarily the Men in Blue will need to make difficult decisions. Suryakumar Yadav was given two opportunities but the top-ranked T20I batsman did not do much with the willow. Now it is interesting to see whether he or Samson who only got one chance gets dropped in the decider to make way for Rohit. Among the rest Kohli and Jaydev Unadkat are likely to take the place of Malik and Patel who are expected to be benched after below-par outings. So which team will emerge victorious in the decider? The irony is obvious. Sixty-six days to go for a home World Cup in which they are meant to be favorites. An experimenting India have just lost an ODI rather comprehensively to a side that was recently chastened for being unable to qualify for the World Cup. India are in a situation where even their opening pair is struggling. Shubman Gill who could do no wrong a couple of months ago has had his technique splayed apart against the Dukes ball - first at the WTC Final and then in the West Indies Tests. West Indies Team news: With no injuries being reported between the two ODIs West Indies are unlikely to tinker with a combination that has worked especially given that some of the previously benched players paid off - Carty and Mayers in particular. even if it was after giving India a sniff with four wickets in a 38-run window. And at the center of the display of character were Keacy and Hope - a veteran and one of the grittier players in the team. India Team news: It's hard to predict what India will do given their experiments in the second ODI. However it's unlikely that India will stick to their guns and risk a sinking morale in the dressing room. It's likely that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will play. The real question mark lies in the middle-order they might go with. For now they don't have a World Cup to look forward to. They have no distractions and can focus on beating a scatter-brained India just one more time. What to expect: This is the first game that's being played at the Brian Lara Stadium in this tour. It is known to be a true wicket and aids strokeplay a lot more than the two-paced Barbados wicket. With an Indian batting desperately in need of a get-out-of-jail card this pitch might just be the one to give them a boost. With a typical Trinidad wicket in place it has to be advantage India - and seamers of course in that brief new-ball period. India vs West Indies 2nd ODI Live This Match Will be Played at Kensington Oval Bridgetown Barbados on 29th July 2023 This Match Will Start at 7.00pm From Indian Standard time. India have taken a 1-0 lead in the series with a five-wicket win but would be looking to iron out their flaws in the second game while for the Windies it is a must-win game to keep the series alive. A win here will be a big boost for the Men in Maroon and let's see how they go about their business in the second ODI at the beautiful Kensington Oval Barbados. India were brilliant with the ball in the first game and hunted down Windies for just 114. The spinners did the trick with 7 wickets between them as Kuldeep took a four-wicket haul in just three overs. Mukesh Kumar the debutant also showed a lot of promise and we can expect India to go with the same bowling attack. As far as batting is concerned India were in a mood of experimentation. Ishan Kishan opened the innings while Suryakumar Yadav batted at 3. But India could not end the chase in a clinical fashion as they lost five wickets on their way. Ishan though scored a fighting fifty in testing conditions which are good signs for India. However India's middle order conundrum is getting mysterious day by day and we might see Samson getting a nod ahead of misfiring Suryakumar Yadav in the second ODI. West Indies on the other hand just need to find a way to apply themselves with the bat. The strike-rotation has been missing in their game for a long time now and they have been guilty of throwing their wickets in a bid to play big shots. Shai Hope has been a lone warrior in the past and he was in the first game too but the likes of Mayers Powell and Hetmyer need to take more responsibility as well. On the bowling front Hope will be happy with the way his bowlers fought till the end. Motie bowled beautifully and he will have to play a big role in the second game too. They might also bring Alzarri Joseph back in the XI for this do-or-die game and we might see a more resilient Windies unit in the second ODI. Let's hope for a cracking encounter. Kuldeep Yadav preferred over Yuzvendra Chahal for the first match. West Indies Team News: Keacy Carty Alzarri Joseph Oshane Thomas and Kevin Sinclair were the ones to sit out for the first game. Among them Carty is an option in the batting order with Mayers not having had a good run in ODIs of late. Carty meanwhile had scored 87 in his previous outing against Sri Lanka. Shai Hope who top-scored with 43 will be hoping for some kind of support at the other end and will expect the batters to show better application with their shot-making going forward. India Team News: The visitors may not make too many changes as they look to give the current lot another go to audition for the World Cup. They are likely to remain unchanged. They are likely to continue with such experiments both with their batting and bowling in second ODI as they look to seal the series and extend their winning streak against the West Indies in ODIs to 10 games. Mukesh was decent in his debut game while India also tried Pandya as their opening bowler with some success. What to expect: There was enough bounce and spin on offer during the first ODI helping the pacers and spinners alike. India might look to bat first should they win the toss in the second game to give their batters some challenge should the pitch turn out anything similar for the second game. Showers are forecast in the first half of the day and might lead to some interruptions. will hoping for some kind of support other end and will expect batters show better application with their shot-making going forward. West Indies are 76/2 at the end of the fourth day's play and they need 289 more runs to win this clash. Early lunch was taken as the game was interrupted multiple times and only 3 overs were possible in the afternoon session. Siraj registered his best Test figures in the morning session as he and Mukesh did short work of the Windies middle and lower order to send them packing for 255. The Indian openers began well adding 98 runs for the first wicket. Rohit was dropped twice on 25 and 29 in the space of two overs and brought up his quickest Test half century. He was eventually dismissed by Shannon Gabriel who dropped one of his catches earlier. Yashasvi Jaiswal also got to an aggressive start and fell against the spinner Jomel Warrican. The left-hand right-hand batting combination was continued as Ishan Kishan was sent to bat at number 4 with the attacking intent. Rain interrupted the game for almost 2 hours with tea taken during the interval. The two batters then added 63 runs in nine overs with Kishan getting his first Test fifty in just 33 balls adding 79 unbeaten with Gill (29*) for the third wicket and set West Indies 365 to win. Brathwaite and Tagenarine Chanderpaul spearheaded the innings for the West Indies in the 4th innings. The duo played sensibly and negotiated Indian pacers carefully without losing any wickets in the first hour of the last session. Rohit switched the bowling from pace to spin and it proved to be the right decision as Ashwin trapped Brathwaite (28 off 52) and Kirk McKenzie (0 off 4) in quick succession and put West Indies in a spot of bother. Blackwood joined Chanderpaul at number three and the duo played cautiously remaining unbeaten till the end of the fourth day’s play. Rohit employed five bowlers and Ashwin managed to extract a couple of wickets for India. India will aim to wrap up the innings quickly tomorrow and win this clash. Session Breakdown: Morning Session: 19.4 Overs | 124 Runs | 6 Wickets Afternoon Session: 3 Overs | 20 Runs | 1 Wicket Evening Session: 41 Overs | 149 Runs | 2 Wickets. Ishan Kishan: "Yeah it was very special. I was aware of what the team required from me and I received support from everyone. Virat supported me and encouraged me to play my game. Let's hope we will finish the game tomorrow. No I think it was planned earlier It was Virat bhai who took the initiative and suggested that I should go in. It was a good call for the team. Sometimes you need to take these calls. We had the plan that we will play 10-12 overs after the rain break and score 70-80 runs. We wanted a 370-380 target. I was at NCA before this. Pant was also present there. He is familiar with my playing style as we have known each other since our under-19 days. Fortunately I found someone to advise me on my bat positioning and I was lucky that Pant was there to tell me something about my bat positioning. Many senior players also engage in discussions with the bowlers. I am looking forward to an exciting game tomorrow where hitting the right areas and getting early wickets will be crucial." A good day of Test cricket all around but India would be the happier dressing room with 288/4 on the board at close. It was a brilliant session for India who lost 4 wickets in the afternoon session but the right-hand left-hand combination of Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja has dug in adding an unbeaten 106 runs for the fifth wicket. Kohli played his trademark cover drives and hit 8 fours on a heavy outfield to remain unbeaten on 87 in 161 deliveries. Jadeja has played cautiously so far adding 36 runs in 84 balls. Jomel Warrican (1/55) Jason Holder (1/30) Shannon Gabriel (1/50) and Kemar Roach (1/64) all picked up a wicket apiece in the afternoon session. The final session belonged completely to India as Kohli-Jadeja didn't make a single error despite some visible footmarks on the pitch first day itself. Kohli had a scare when he dived to get back in the crease turning for a couple and got some medical attention. For West Indies substitute fielder Kevin Sinclair injured himself in the deep with Tagenarine Chanderpaul getting hit on the wrists at short leg by Virat Kohli in the final over of the day. The Windies pacers showed lack of intent and failed to put some short stuff in action making it easier the pair to put up runs on the board. Session Breakup: Morning Session: Overs 26 | Runs 121 | Wickets 0 Afternoon Session: Overs 24.4 | Runs 61 | Wickets 4 Evening Session: Overs 33.2 | Runs 106 | Wickets 0. The over-rate has been appalling to say the least. This duo has added runs and have done so at a very decent rate. Debutants each for two teams; Kirk McKenzie for West Indies Mukesh Kumar for India. West Indies won the toss and opt to bowl. Yashasvi Jaiswal smashes a pull himself in the next over getting another maximum. Back-to-back boundaries from captain Sharma bring the 50-run opening partnership. Hitman brings his 15th Test fifty with another six via the pull shot. Rohit also completes 2000 runs as a Test opener. Kohli gets to his consecutive half-century 30th in the Tests. The fifth wicket partnership between Kohli-Jadeja move past 100. Shannon Gabriel: "I think it was a tough day based on the pitch. The guys were patient and fought back nicely. We were not in control during the first session but apart from that the guys were disciplined. We hit the good lengths later and got the rewards. We thought there might be some grass on it but it has nothing. We expected some bounce but it too eased out. Just needed to hit those tight lines and lengths. In the second session we were on target. There isn't much spice in the pitch. We weren't at our best in the first session after opting to bowl first. We will sit back and access this in the dressing room. The second new ball is due and we will take it tomorrow. I just hit the hard length closer to the off-stump and I was happy with that (Rahane's) wicket."
